There are a few that run in the UK. Not as big in size as the JP or US Conventions.
Ayacon for example is running this weekend in the UK. There will be probably a few thousand going. Minamicon and Kitacon ran this year also, there's also Fushicon in mid November if you would like a small taste of an anime convention within the UK.
Anime conventions do exist over in the UK. Try googling your nearest anime society to your location and that should get you started.

Come to Scotland, there are conventions(albeit little) and people "dress up". Maybe in England, these kinds of things are assumed, but there are more accepting people in the UK.
There are hot cosplayers on both sides of the ocean, and I mean ones with healthy BMIs. I don't get the deal with fat cosplayers being States-only affair; obviously you didn't look at all of them. Either that, or you're just a weaboo. I'll play kind and assume the former.
