The cosplayers of the first day of Comiket 80 have braved the burning heat of high summer to show their immaculate and many cases quite sexy costumes.
Between the intense heat (at least 34°C in the afternoon, and certainly much more for those unfortunates trapped in bulky costumes – several hundred people were actually hospitalised with heatstroke), reduced attendance (down 10,000 on the previous year, quite possibly a result of the heat), and the uncertain effect of a sexy cosplay ban, the day seemed somewhat less successful than previous years.
Whether the harsher restrictions actually had any effect is hard to say – though some cosplayers certainly appeared more carefully swaddled than usual and there was a definite absence of bust, whether this was incidental or the result of restrictions is hard to say, not least because the effect of any ban would manifest itself largely in the non-appearance of sexy cosplayers.
Some complaints about an over-abundance of Madoka cosplayers have also been voiced…
