Atlus has announced what everyone probably already knew – that Americans love Catherine, having made it the best selling US launch in Atlus’s history.
Atlus gloats over Catherine’s success in North America:
“Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations.
It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay.
It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail.”
2ch brings its usual penetrating insights to the table:
“Those dirty foreigners were hooked by the blonde heroine, weren’t they now!”
“Damn, now we are going to end up with another Catherine game and another postponement of the next Persona.”
“Wow, it outsold Demon’s Souls!?”
“With all the cash from Catherine they could actually ensure all the sub-missions in Persona 5 are fully voiced…”
“What the? I get the impression the Persona team is being massively overrated here.”
The game is available now for those who have yet to fall for her charms.

Nah, I'll pass on this one.
She's voiced by Laura Bailey~ Who wouldn't love Catherine?
I'll take Sawashiro Miyuki & Mitsuishi Kotono over Laura Bailey any day.
Don't know who those broads are. Doubt they are better than the Laura Bailey though. One of the best English voice actresses ever.
You're totally missing out.. I love them all!
>English
One of the best English perhaps but dub falls down to the worst.
So being best at being worst ain't really impressive.
Whats the difference between doing the voice for a game in English or Japanese? Its not like the game has actual footage of the japanese voice actress speaking.
Doesnt seem like you should call it dubbing, or if you do then the Japanese is dubbing too.
the dubs weren't horrible, but letting us choose which audio track would've been the extra cheese on the pizza.
miyukich>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>laura bailey any day
I can't stand Sawashiro Miyuki's voice anymore, she's way overused.
Dubbed Catherine just disgusting!
Sorry, but Sawashiro talking dirty invalids your argument.
miyuichi talking dirty is sexy:P
Well, Kotono Mitsuishi is a divine being among rabble. We are all unworthy of her grace. I can relate to that sentiment.
However, i think the english dub is appropriate. As are most Atlus dubs. Seriously people, if you have that much energy to complain about comparatively good english versions you should spend some time with looking up the stuff we had to endure during the PS1 era.
FUCK English dub. All it do is ruin perfect experience of Japanese game. all Catherine needed was Japanese voices and eng subs. Fuck atlus with their English dubs.
The English dub was pretty good though...
Yes it was, hell I'm enjoying it right now as we speak.
It's not a matter of good or bad. You can't put a foreign dub on a japanese media and expect a good result, you just can't.
not for me every time i hear English dub in games\anime i want to vomit. no matter how good they are English voices and acting just don't work in Japanese games\anime.
DBZ was a good English dub. Sean Schemmel rules...
FFXIII was fine in English though... Except for Vanille of-course.
Damn, vitriol from English dub haters needs to cool the fuck down. Don't like the Eng. dub, don't buy it, import it if your precious Japanese nihon language is so superior.
I hate to break it to you, but some of us prefer a language we -can- understand, just as some of us prefer subbed over eng. dubs. I prefer Japanese subs on my Yakuza games. The effect is lost otherwise.
For Catherine, however, English dubs are just -fine- and in good quality. I can stomach it quite well and if you can't, just import it, jesus fuck.
Is it really that hard?
I agree with you "anon 3:49", and people voting your comment down is just showing how much they are at being little faggots, both sub and dub are good no matter what, if one try's to out weigh the other just shows how much they are at baaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Could you sound any more like a stupid weeaboo? Jeez.
I prefer Japanese with subs myself just to keep my ear for for the language intact while I live in a place that has a dearth of Japanese speakers, but a well dubbed game is always welcome. It sucks if there's no option to change voices, but for that blame the Xbox and its pathetic storage medium.
yeah i'm otaku-weeaboo problem bitch? dub without an option of tirning it off ill always suck English just can't act in Japanese games\anime i can it and i will say it again some thing just impossible.
@demonhaseo yep i felt no emotion whatsoever. no acting no character nothing. i you call yourself seriously interested in anime and you watch with eng dub, guess what? you are not seriously interested in it true fan will always pick original over fucking dub.
Dear god. Are you seriously bitching and whining about Atlus and the Catherine dub? Have you not seen other Japanese video game dubs? Have you not heard the CLANNAD dub? Are you really going to bitch about far superior dubs like those of Catherine and Persona? and about Atlus having the balls to localize games that other gaming companies won't? I'm pretty sure you yourself aren't even Japanese! So why in the hell are you acting like a superior hardcore fanatic? And at least learn how to spell before you start posting random fucking dribble all over the place you moronic tasteless piece of shit. It's a sad day when a supposed, "true" fan doesn't see the difference in a good dub from a shitty one.
Look I like dub just as much as I like Sub... but I grew up with Dubbing... I'm an american and some times I have days where i'm in no fucking mood to read. I can't speak or understand the japanese language either and have no money to take classes or get fucking Rosetta Stone so my only other option is Dub. There are some amazing Dubbers out there, the few I named are just the tip of the ice burg but since you're too ignorant to get your head out of your ass and actually LISTEN to them and instead just believe all dub is crap i'm just wasting my fucking breath. Not all dub is bad... I blame 4Kids for people believing it is though... and the early stages of anime development outside of japan.
Also FUCK YOU for saying I am not a serious anime fan, don't judge someone without even getting to know them first.
raspberry your making yourself look like a little bitch just because there's no option to switch voices on a game, granted there should be that option, but after seeing your comments on here and bitching and moaning about eng dub is like worst shit than anything else. your making yourself like a little cry baby faggot, and that's pathetically sad.
Awwwww.... poor thing.
Wow, what a massive weeaboo cunt.
You do know you are one for reading this. If you weren't then you would have been fappin not cussing.
I'm getting tired of you fucking English dub hating lame asses man. Deal with it.
English dub in Catherine is superb.
no it's not. Japanese voice actors is way way better. English voice actors can't act in Japanese games, 0 emotion, 0 entertainment. i would be silent if they included the FUCKING OPTION for those who don't like eng dub but because atlus is full of shit eating monkeys they decided not to.
Wait! Wait! Wait! Are you telling me the eng. dub is fixed and there is no option to change the dub to Jp?
You kidding, right?
Using Bluray vs DVD logic:
Atlus wouldn't have removed Japanese dub from the game if Microsoft didn't use DVD due to lack of storage capacity not present on Bluray. Microsoft has a policy that all games be equal on the XBox with the PS3 and even PC. Thus the term "consolized" became known this generation.
Atlus also isn't allowed to use installs because some XBox models don't have HDDs.
@Sajina yes there is NO i repeat NO way to change eng dub in atlus games. yes they are that bad at localising Japanese games.
@RaspberryKisses
A BD has a size of about 50GB! New 360 DVDs have over 10GB! And it is 2011! You telling me trash games like "Onechanbara" get JP-Dub and an AA-Game like Cathrine doesn't?!
What the ...?!
Fuck Xbox and their shitty console for limiting the game because of their consoloe limitations.
@01:27 04/08/2011
>Microsoft has a policy that all games
>be equal on the XBox with the PS3 and even PC.
Go and tell this my "Ninja Gaiden 2" XBOX copy ...
The costs of licensing the rights to use Japanese overseas wasn't worth it in Atlus eyes. Also, they redid all the animations to fit with the English voice acting. Its like a slap in the face to want Japanese voice acting after they went through all the work to give you motherfuckers a superb English experience to, you know, a primarily English speaking country.
Obviously, no one gives a shit about dual audio because people are still buying this game and not giving a shit. Motherfuckers who bitch and moan about dual audio in games need to realize that you are the minority of the minority of the fanbase Atlus sell their shit to.
No one gives a shit about dual audio. Shut the fuck up about no dual audio you non Japanese speaking motherfuckers.
Damn...I normally don't like to cuss but you guys piss me off. Sometimes makes me ashamed to be apart of the community.
@Sajina yeah it's atlus they are assholes which don't care about fans.no matter how many treads were created and how many petitions were sent they fucking ignore it all.
@Esura and yet they still suck compared to Japanese version. and we are no minority there a many of us who like Japanese dub more than English. so fuck you with you English don't like Japanese language fuck off and don't play Japanese games. Just doing Japanese voices will save time and money.
Dub Voice actors have no emotion, get your head out of your ass... hello Yuri Lowenthal had no emotion when he did Simon In Gurren Lagann? Johnny Yung Bosch had no emotion when he did Lelouch Lamperouge? VIC MIGNOGNA HAS NO EMOTION WHEN HE DOES EDWARD ELRIC? Think before you speak.
@RaspberryKisses
Fuck off yellow monkey, I don't want to hear your CANGCINGCUNG especially in a game set in Motherfuckin America
@ esura
nice drivel post xD worthless filth
@RaspberryKisses
Also, for future reference for those coming to the thread. Heres a summary of why AtlusUSA can't/is not getting Dual Audio.
They'd have to pay to license the Japanese voice track
-They would still need to do English acting because it's rare that the average person would buy a video game only in Japanese
-The translations they do are not exact to the Japanese, but instead keep the feel and meaning of the lines; thus, the Japanese voices would not match up with what is being shown onscreen
-Space issues for same games (however, at the very least, PS3's Catherine would not have this issue)
-Coding; unless they have a lot of manpower--and Atlus is a tiny company compared to others--it's generally hard to code in a whole new dual-audio option when the original Japanese game doesn't have it. One little change in the code could potentially change something completely unrelated.
@RaspberryKisses
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. I can enjoy my fucking anime/game, you can enjoy yours whether it's dubbed or not. Look what language your typing in! Personally, I can't fully enjoy the Visuals if its subbed, because I like an anime/game with good visuals, writing, and fun game-play, and that's all it comes down to. If you wanna bitch feel free cause no ones gonna give a shit in the end.
All of Atlus' dubs are ace. I've yet to see them do shit dubs like SquareEnix(who went wtf after FFX).
ace? dub in P4 still give me nightmares it was so awful compared to Japanese version.
Haters gonna hate. P4 english dub was perfectly fine. Though I played an undub version of P4 because of Yui Horie, Ami Koshimizu, and Kugimiya Rie.
you said it yourself original Japanese voices is always better.
are you retarded, rapsberry? I find it sad when people say japanese voice is better derpity derp derp, and same as the other way, its really stupid to complain about, makes you look like a gapping vagina
raspberry, you got 2 options, an hero or suck it up
If you're trying to look like a narrow-minded fanatic, mission accomplished. When given the option, I will always choose the original, but I can recognize that there are decent English dubs, too.
The English dub in Catherine was surprisingly good. Though I'll be honest. I couldn't stand Catherine's voice.
I would have to agree with Esura, the English dub wasn't that bad and I thought It was done exceptionally well.
Besides, It was stated from Atlus that It wouldn't make sense to leave the Japanese dub If the setting of story was in the West.
I agree that is wasn't so bad but some of us enjoy a proper execution in acting rather than risking a dull moment or annoying and awkward dialog as some translation that doesn't fit well in English language.
Also for Atlus reasons is just PR talk for being cheap. If that was truly the reason then Persona 3&4 would have been in Japanese. I mean it is okay for the Playstation 1&2 but now there is no more excuses. Even if the spaces were used for Xbox360, look at Dynasty Warrior 7, Japanese Voice as free DLC. Some people say it was lip sync was alter but not enough. I still see them lips moving while there were talking.
"FUCK English dub. All it do is ruin perfect experience of Japanese game. all Catherine needed was Japanese voices and eng subs. Fuck atlus with their English dubs."
A fine example of a weeaboo.
Before anyone replies with, "Hur tis iz teh Sankakus and u r using weeaboo?" I'd just like to point out that not everyone here is a weeaboo. Most come here because of an interest in anime, manga, and general news from Japan. Oh, and titties.
The dub in Catherine is good. This is an Atlus game not a fucking Square-Enix game. Their past dubs have been good as well. The only bad dub that really comes to mind was Fuuka's English voice actor in Persona 3. If I could reach through the screen and choke her, I would without hesitation.
Why not just import the game from Japan for your precious Japanese dub? Oh wait, you can't understand Japanese very well and require English subs. Stupid weeaboo.
I agree with this guy!!!^^
Finally I find an Anon who I can agree with without also wanting to shove a firecracker up the ass for a comment they put in the golden statement. Atlus, NIS Ameri, and NamdaiBanco (to an extent >.>) are the 3 best companies for importing and dubbing games... Square Enix however... with the exception of Kingdom Hearts they fluctuate from good... to a heaping pile of slag.
Also, for future reference for those coming to the thread. Heres a summary of why AtlusUSA can't/is not getting Dual Audio.
They'd have to pay to license the Japanese voice track
-They would still need to do English acting because it's rare that the average person would buy a video game only in Japanese

And yet, Nisam an arguably smaller company or one of similar size to Atlus, is able to put dual audio into all or most of it's games. Your last point is fairly invalid, but I could care less. The dub Catherine was cosmic ace level, I enjoyed it immensely.
@Samson
Yes but unlike games Atlus brought over which were pretty much always 3D, NIS's game up until the PS3 were all just sprites thus they still had plenty of space on the disk's for dual audio. As of the PS3 era of the games they were finally able to bring the sprites to full 3D renderings (With the exception of Disgaea 4... lazy bastards >.>) and still have space for the Dual Audio.
thank you for teaching us this.
wait wait so their isnt a "Voice Settings"?
All i thought all atlus USA have also a japanese voices -x-
It would be fine if Catherine looked like her, too.
FUCK ENGLISH DUB!...
Yeah fuck english dub!!!!!
(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ fuck English dub!
Fuck all you D<
