Haruhi Cloned, Again

The announcement of an anime adaptation of “Papa no Yu Koto o Kikinasai!” has been greeted not with appreciative squirts of anticipation from anime fans but with howls of derision at the rather obvious Haruhi clone it presents as a heroine.
The anime is to be adapted from the light novel by Tomohiro Matsu (the author of the Mayoi Neko Overrun! series); although it is subtitled in questionable English as “Listen to me girls. I am your father!”, a closer translation of the title is “Listen to what father tells you!”
The story itself revolves around a university student who suddenly finds himself thrust into the role of being the father of three young girls (or in other words it is a contrived soft-incest harem fantasy, perfect anime material).
It is the Haruhi clone aspect which most exercises anime fans:
“Another fake Haruhi…”
“Damn, this looks awful.”
“It hasn’t even started yet but you can still tell it’s finished.”
“The ‘I am your father’ bit seems familiar.”
“It’s done for. Already.”
“They copied Haruhi a bit too much here.”
“At least be a bit less obvious about it.”

“I’ve never seen a hairstyle like that in real life. What’s it called anyway? It looks awful, to be frank.”

You just made Hideaki Anno's day, UncommonOtaku. He intended Rei to be creepy and was very upset that the rest of us were all ZOMG TEH REI.
Nagato is far enough from Rei that she's not really a rip-off. I didn't get that impression right off the bat, and still don't really. You need to be more than just a stoic character with short hair to be a clone really, and their stories were so wildly different that I rarely (if ever) thought she matched Rei. That's why I think the complaints were from a small, derisive few. In this case, though... it's a bit more cut and dry.
And you need more than a hair ribbon to be a clone of Haruhi, yet.....

Yeah... art style, hair style, style of the eyes, style of the body, uniform's lay on her body, the general method in which the ribbon is tied, the pose itself... it's more than just a ribbon by far.
Rei didn't match Nagato much at all. Her hair wasn't really similar, just short, which is a weak connection anyway, the styles were wildly different for all aspects of their bodies. There's no comparison between the Rei/Nagato situation and this character/Haruhi situation.
Having short haired and being silent suddenly make Nagato a Rei rip-off? That's like saying Professor X is a rip-off of Captain Picard... or Stephen Hawking imitates Professor X.
