A ranking of the world’s most delicious foods published by CNN has been attracting attention in Japan, as much for including such gourmet delights as pizza, popcorn and hamburgers as for placing sushi 4th…
1. Massaman curry, Thailand

“If this was a “most beautiful” foods list, this would be no. 1.”

50. Buttered popcorn, United States
Naturally, a food ranking including burgers and popcorn and having more British foods than French is bound to prove controversial anywhere, and even more so where it includes Japanese foods in competition with Chinese foods and being eaten by hairy barbarians…
“Hamburger…”
“To be blunt, what the world calls sushi and what Japan calls sushi are two different things.”
“It would be best if sushi is for the Japanese only.”
“Only Japanese can understand the taste of sushi.”
“I’ve never even heard of most of these.”
“Aren’t the Koreans pissed that kimchee is not number one?”
“There’s 3 Japanese foods, 2 Chinese ones and 0 Korean, of course.”
“The food is the only good thing about China…”
“Ankimo. What the hell…”
“Japanese sushi and foreign sushi are two different things.”
“Shouldn’t ‘curry’ be number one? Who the hell’s even heard of ‘massaman curry’?”
“If you let Americans decide this sort of thing they’ll just pick pizza and hamburgers. Leave it to the Europeans.”
“Sushi isn’t even that nice. It’s just pretentious food critics praising it to give themselves airs.”
“It was just Japanese fast food to start with. Nothing to get stuck up about.”
“Quit praising sushi, you’ll push the price of tuna even higher…”
“Honestly, you can say sushi is a beautiful food but with chocolate, ice cream and burgers this ranking is rather suspect.”
“Of all the Chinese food they could pick, why Peking duck?”
“Sushi isn’t that good. There are a lot of other Japanese foods which seem more worthy to me.”
“American sushi is amazing – they are really perfecting something as simple as fish and rice with all kinds of seasoning, presentation and preparation.”
“Eat sushi every day and you’ll soon be sick of it. You can eat curry every day and never get tired of it – that’s an amazing food!”
“Sushi was never a gourmet food, it was peasant food.”
“Is sushi even cooking? It’s just cut fish on rice.”
“The ranking has burgers in it. It’s nothing. Who cares if sushi is number 4 in such a list.”
“Thai curry outranking Indian curry is a bit strange…”
“The Japanese press had organised this, Korean food would be number one for sure.”
“A laughable ranking made by Americans. How can you take a gourmet ranking which includes hamburgers seriously?”

How on earth is ketchup a "food"
It's like going "sugar is the best food there is."
I'm glad someone noticed this other than me... o.o
So many things about this list are terrible.
1.) Fajitas were created in America by an American. There's a reason why traditional Mexican food and "tex-mex" are two different things.
2.) Hamburgers were also invented in America. They started off as "hamburg steaks" - obviously named after the German city - but a cooked meat patty is hardly the hamBURGER we know today. That comes from NYC, when they took the steak and proceeded to stick it on a bun with a bunch of other shit to make it more edible.
3.) I'm also concerned they list "Texas pulled pork" as their BBQ entry. Texas BBQ is known for briskets, not pulled pork. Secondly, any national study/taste test pulled up on BBQ (yes, these things exist - BBQ is srs bsns in the south) typically have Memphis, TN with the best BBQ followed closely by Kansas City, MO. All other BBQ hotspots - St. Louis, Texas, the Carolinas, etc. - rank a distant 3rd after those two cities. So please, don't try to say that Texas trash is the best BBQ in the U.S. - let alone the world.
As a Memphian, I would've been ashamed to see KC on the list instead of us. It's bad enough their ketchup-sugar based sauces are the most popular in the US thanks to KC Masterpiece and Kraft (which tastes like shit btw). But putting Texas above both of us? Well that's downright laughable.
I'm sure I could find a lot more faults, but I'm far too lazy. I'd say I'd expect better of CNN, but after the political scene the past ~3 years, I don't expect anything out of any news network anymore.
Always thinked argentina and brazilian barbecue was better than american, lol.
Whats funny is that texas bbq is uniquely BEEF bbq, they are one of the only states that do primarily beef bbq and don't eat pork bbq, everyone else does primarily pork and go so far as saying texas doesn't do bbq because they don't use pork. Texas pulled pork is a fucking oxymoron.
But what do you expect from a dumbass that says hamburgers came from Germany because it was named after a german city.
The idiots here really do hate facts. Remember you fucking morons, french fries come from france because they have french in the name, not Belgium where they really came from.
The Hamburger is in it's root a German thing, though.
You should really look that up.
It's just been well over a century since German settlers brought a very early variant of the recipe over to the states.
The Briskets are well known because any moron with a grill can produce one. and they do.
Texas pork ribs require a whole lot more expertise to do well, but the prize is amazing.
You can't be more wrong in everything!
Fajitas ARE mexican, and remember texas was mexican too? hello? something up there?
Not true actually. There are a ton of Spanish sounding foods that were in fact created in America or popularized from a Mexican dish into something else. The parlance of Fajita is an American creation. The actual dish can be found in Mexico, but the popular terminology it is used today is from America.
America did create a ton of gourmet and of course, it's popular to just bash them and say they have none.
Every without cook meat are most danger meat
“Only Japanese can understand the taste of sushi.”
I love Japan but it always intrigues me that they think they're some sort of magical race…
Well, most of them are wizards so....
LOL now that you mention it
Good Job, Yoshii.
So true. Also, I'd like to hear how sushi made in America with the same ingredients and procedure as Japan is somehow different. Not the amazing Japanese rice myth?
As for burgers... how many people don't like burgers? How many foods can you say that about? 'nuff said.
It's not the same, the fish served in the US has been dead for quite some time. Go have some sushi in Tsukiji where your sushi was alive that morning. If you can't taste the difference, then you can't appreciate the difference. Also many other things can affect the flavor, such as the diet, environment, etc.
Most of the prime tuna in Tsukiji is flash frozen on a fishing boat weeks beforehand. You didn't think they caught it in the waters off Japan, did you?
This is only true if the fisherman caught the fishes and ate them. In most case, fishes are frozen first for preservation because today's fishing style are large-scale operations that requires weeks of fishing to serve big populations and trashcans, than a day's worth of work to feed a family.
I've been to Tokyo, and honestly, I didn't think the sushi was any different from what I could get at an American sushi restaurant. However, for what it's worth, I could only afford a week's stay, so I didn't travel around too much while I was there. For the most part, I just meandered around Shiomi (my hotel's local neighborhood), attended Comiket for all three days, went to Akihabara a couple times, and made brief stops in Ginza and Asakusa (said stops not being food-related, though I did have some dango and a bottle of ramune while in Asakusa).
Different fish from different locations all taste different so technically sushi from all over the world would taste different. Unless you jet fly import a live fish and make sushi with it right off the plane in another country.
People have to realize that gourmet food were only included, it's NOT a most delicious gourmet list - it's a most delicious list. Everything can be included.
Great point.
The 'dirty truth' about rice in Japan is that most of it is from California.
The food myth is just that. A myth. And hypernationalist Japanese use that myth all the time. Japan imports a titanic amount of food from overseas. Including the 'much hated' America.
Perhaps they think the mayonnaise and salmon sushi at shitty Chinese-American buffets is what Americans consider sushi. However, if you live in Japan, the fish usually is fresher than if you live in the middle of the US, so It can be a bit better.
Some Mexicans act like only they know what Mexican food is. There's no mystery, everybody's eaten at El Torito and Taco Bell.
French toast, Hong Kong
dude wat....
“Of all the Chinese food they could pick, why Peking duck?”
probably cause its the only type of duck that didn't explode...
But it's packed with seasons that explodes on your tastebuds.
Hong Kong has its own variation of French toast that's really thick and chunky. No idea why it's on this list, though.

i was gonna say the same thing o__O
rofled
u must hav never tasted it
They're just weeaboos that go on this site too much to bash on the false Chinese news.
It's hong kong style French toast, they should have elaborated. Not sure if it originated there(I don't think so) but Hong kong style french toast is delicious.
This list is BS. If it was from Hong Kong, their nationalists would never let it go.
They'd go on a crusade to call it Hong Kong/China toast.
No, because 'toast' was originally brought from overseas like Britain, and Hong Kong has so many other foods named 'x-Hong Kong style' that a toast or two doesn't matter.
pizza was invented in china too, but since they say a special kind of pizza, ill let it slide... lol
Neapolitan pizza is the kind with cheese and toppings you know American pizza. Italian pizza is just seasoned bread.
Bullshit, american pizza is the fatty one drowning in cheese, neapolitan pizza is the thin one with more tomato sauce.
My Chinese friends always told me that Marco Polo stole it from the Chinese. I never had the heart to tell them that Marco Polo never actually went to China.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Polo
I take it beijing, chengdu and lanzhou aren't chinese cities then?
everyone stole from china.
what a lie, mexican cuisine has nothing to do with china's rat meat or scorpion sticks.
Rat meat, not actually so likely.
Scorpion sticks, hell yes. They'll put most anything on a stick in China.
Scorpions.
Giant centipedes.
Big-ass spiders.
A bunch of beetles.
Seahorse.
Starfish.
The list goes on.
There's too many people and not enough food, eat what you can.
39. Ketchup
Since when is ketchup food?
Is a sauce at best ¬_¬
Yeah Pizza and Spaghetti... I like it!
Just look at all these sauces...
i'm pretty sure the hamburger they are talking about is the american hamburger, not the german hamburger. the german hamburger is basically a tenderized cutlet steak. the modern hamburger was created in 1885. two groups of people have credit for making it. in the same year at different locations both of which were in the united states. either way, when i was little, ignorant people told me the modern hamburger was made in germany, and i found out later it was an american innovation.
if they are indeed talking about mcdonalds style burgers, then that's not the correct country of origin.
also, cocoa came from mexico. but the modern sweet chocolate we enjoy today is the result of european countries mixing in sugar and milk to make it sweet. mexicans mixed it up in their daily diet only getting the bitter from it. cadbury made the first solid chocolate bar. i suppose switzerland would be the best guess of which country deserves credit for modern sweet chocolate.
on a side note. lobster wasn't always a gourmet favorite. american prisoners used to complain about cruel and unsual punishment when confronted with lobster dinners. just thought you would get a laugh out of it.
DAMMIT JIM~~~~~~~~~~~ LOBSTER AGAIN~! TRITI
Since then there is nothing else in the fridge and You too lazy to go to the shop. ^_^
CNN staff would rather eat Ketchup than those food listed below it.
It can make Simple Fries taste Better
