1.No one is trying to be racist to the Chinese (that they're the world's largest garbage export dump and that many citizens lead sewer animal quality lives is a given truth). The fact that most "China Quality" articles receive a great deal of discussion in the comments section actually prove that most are reasonable and open-minded on the subject, which you somehow manage to actually translate into "Sankaku Rascism".

All sorts of messed up stuff akin to the Chinese habit of making things out of literal crap happens around the world, but only the Chinese incidents are reported on SanCom. This is however very understandable because SanCom concentrates on the East Asia region. The style of reporting is also very provocative which I, for the record, find amusing.

This context however is rarely clear in the comments which often end up being something like "look at dem stupid chinee living in crap".
All of that crap above is however irrelevant.
The conflict of thought should be rather obvious - for example, a Japanese person generally discriminating against the Koreans but then screaming in outrage when some bastard somewhere makes an equally senseless discriminatory comment or action against the Japanese.
This is of course not exclusively a Japanese phenomenon, but a common element of the right-wing (populist) thought in the world. Shining examples include Zimbabwe and Israel.

Basically it boils down to this: The Japanese are butthurt because China overtook them as the second largest economy in the world, The Americans are butthurt because they lost to the Japanese in a game of football. The Chinese may have their rearholes safe for now but the assrape resulting from the implosion of their insane society of selling slaves to western and increasingly local corporations will leave the Great Arsehole of China gaping.

A full scale invasion would have been much worse.
It would have resulted in around 10 million civilian deaths and Japan likely would have been split in two.

The firebombing of Tokyo alone was much more effective at killing civilians and a much worse way to die, and yet nobody talks about those incidents (let's not even include Dresdin). I get the distinct feeling that people only list off the atom bomb as some horror because of anti-atomics propaganda and not an actual grasp of history :(

@5:44: Japan's navy had been obliterated, their air force was destroyed, and the last of their army was pretty much locked down on the mainland, dodging air raids every day. They were beaten in all ways. The American military had complete air superiority over their islands, and all control of commerce and supply in and out. Japan was 100% under siege, locked down and beaten, and we both knew it.

The fact that the US needed a complete surrender to feel victorious and to humiliate an already defeated enemy is our cultural issue, not Japan's.

The thought that the only to choices were: Kill over 200,000 innocent civilians, including tens of thousands of children, or invade with ground troops when you already had the enemy's military defeated is a false dichotomy.

I really believe the truth is we wanted to play with our new toys and a) see how well they worked for the upcoming confrontations with the USSR, and b) send the USSR a strong message that we had such firepower. The state of Japan, or the fact that we were murdering innocents never crossed our military leaders' minds, I don't think. It was all about us vs the Soviet Union at that point (my guess).
