Japan has beaten the USA for the first time ever in the final match of the Women’s World Cup, prompting the usual sudden and opportunistic interest in football amongst Japanese supporters.
The match was drawn 2-2, but Japan’s team turned this into a 3-1 victory when it came to penalties.
Japanese media helpfully offered gloating coverage of Americans witnessing their defeat:
Japan’s team had previously been remarkable for their total inability to beat the US – they previously lost 22 matches and drew a further 3, making this their first victory against them.
Where the coverage for this? I had no idea that there was a women’s world cup going on.
At least they got totally obliterated although women soccer is not really high quality sport (more like 3rd League in regular mens soccer championsship) and it’s just lame if every group gets its own championsship, that’s rude to the real world champion from Spain that would own all those teams that are “world champions” as well.
I think the Olympic thought should apply here as well: There can be only one winner/champion and everyone else is a loser, for that makes the glory of being the winner worthwhile. Too bad we don’t have any pride anymore and even give out prizes and cash to someone who placed like 9th and medals to the first 3 (in Olympia,the winner only got a victory-crown and the right to put up a statue at the Akropolis(he had to pay for the statue himself though)) whats kind of lame in my eyes.
I myself never placed first anywhere so who cares if the winner gets honor and glory,it’s just stupid that those who failed to win rob something off his share and that there’s even something like vice-champion or game for the 3rd place….

excuse me… but Japan has J-League, which has much more attention than the state’s damn soccer league, which I have no idea what it is called.
