Noboru Yamaguchi, the author of the Zero no Tsukaima light novel series and queen of tsundere Louise, has apologised for a delay in publishing volume 21 caused by his ongoing battle with cancer.
He explains the situation in an official announcement released by publisher Media Factory:
To my dear readers,
Thank you all for being so kind as to await my humble works. I would like to report on the progress of my illness.
In February I fell ill, and was diagnosed with cancer.
As the cancer’s progress was unexpectedly fast, it was considered impossible to operate to remove it. Instead, I was put on a course of anticancer drugs.
Around May, I was also diagnosed with gallstones. During abdominal surgery to remove these, it was fortunately confirmed that the cancer had shrunk.
The anticancer drug treatment was continued, and a few days ago during my admission to hospital for treatment, it was determined that it is now possible to operate.
This operation is scheduled for the beginning of August.
As for Zero no Tsukaima 21, which I am currently writing, due to the circumstances above its August release has become difficult to sustain. I hope expectant readers will forgive this unpardonable lapse.
The structure of the remaining Zero no Tsukaima volumes was already planned from volume 20 – I shall endeavour to complete the remaining 2 volumes as soon as the operation has succeeded and I have recovered my health.
I hope you will be kind enough to grant me your understanding,
Noboru Yamaguchi

I hope the operation will be successfull. And not just because I'm interested in the end of the story, but it would be just sad to see him go.

I third
God damnit!!!
Poor thing. So ill and still worries about work and readers.
Get well soon, Yamaguchi-san.
Indeed, I couldn't agree more. If only there were more fine gentlemen like him.
Wishing for the best, Yamaguchi-san.
This really sucks. Fucking cancer. I hope his operation turns out successful. I will try to stay updated on his situation. I'd really appreciate it if you would give us any news on his health in the future, Artefact.
I dont even know who this guy is, nonetheless I do send this mangaka my regards and wish him the best of health. And its awesome that this guy is still concerned with pleasing his fans despite his situation.
I might check out this Zero manga. :)
Light novels, as in books. The anime is based off of books.
I never like Zero no tskaima, but i do feel sorry for him.
I hope his operation goes smoothly and a quick recovery
I hope the same, get well soon Yamaguchi.
I enjoyed Zero no Tsukaima very much, especially the tsun-tsun Louise. Without Noboru-san, we would not see her or any flat-chested tusndere lolis. God bless him.
Hope he gets well soon and continue to write :D
Just wanna say.....
F*CK YOU CANCER!!! >.>

Hope he gets better!

Sadly it applies for anyone.
I hope Noboru Yamaguchi gets back in good health.
F*CK YOU CANSERU!! And F*CK YOU DOLPHINRUUU AND WHAAAIRUUU!!
There is no recession for manga! The recession, and the cancer, is an ASSHOLE!
Yamaguchi, just try and get better first. If working is straining your condition then it'd be counterproductive, not to mention your condition might worsen. Fight the big C, write some ideas when you get the chance, and come back to your public safe and cancer free. You'll make it dude, I know you will.
IAWTC. I hope everything goes well and he feels a lot better.
Indeed we all wish you the very best :)
I hope he can come out of this, many people have beaten cancer, lets hope Noboru does the same.
It's good to see that he isn't going to kick the bucket and that he has plans to finish ZnT. Seeing an author pass on before their work has ended is a double tragedy.
Get well, Yamaguchi-san!
Not a fan of his work, but I definitely wish for his well being.
Get Well Soon!!!!
Too bad Shntos sacred herb was forced to be banned from their country by the Empire of Rome, er I mean America.
God damn hero. One of the deadliest diseases and still manages to apologize for making us wait. If only he knew how grateful this pirate was.
Then go buy his manga to support him.
Please don't apply the word "hero" to everything.
HEROMAN!
A person people have respect for is not a 'thing'.
I think he's pretty heroic to try and finish his light novels while on cancer and gallstones.
Not a big damn hero, but certainly a daily-life one.
That's just typical Japanese customer relation talk. It's policy that they apologize over everything even when it's something that's out of their control. Just look at all those company that said they apologize for shipping delays due to earth quake few months back.
Not always though. Some terminally ill anime/manga creators expressed resentment, sadness and fear as well. This is way too serious to be considered entirely as corporate in nature.
care to mention a few? It'd be interesting to read.
Apologizing for getting sick.. This man is a true novelist, Hope you get well soon Yamaguchi-sensei
No, rather he's just japanese. Apologies always comes first.
Well he does need to provide a reason for the delay if he wants to keep his fans.
Shit son, that ain't nothin'.
I've got an eye on countless projects, games, comics, etc. with near-dead status of varying levels, some truly absurd. I expect slacking and delays as a matter of course from the internet; we're just not the types who get shit done. I know to pushback any release/launch/deadline, even ones professionals claim. It may be pessimistic but it's not inaccurate.
However, this isn't just some fan translation or cripple girls VN or other project losing steam due to the latest MMO or whatever, the guy's got cancer. Normally I'd say "go do something else meanwhile, noob" to the impatient, but cancer justifies quite a bit of extra "I'll finish it later"
I hope he's not expecting to avoid "dude wtf next release where" haters, though. Those are as natural as the aforementioned slacking, and should simply be accepted along with the hate mail and other normal difficulties of the masses.
Nonono, please not another one! Fight on!
We'll wait for your return!!!!!
I lost my dad to cancer 5 years ago, its been the worst years of my and my family life
I new light came a year and a half ago, to whom i'm getting married.
It was a harsh fight, i saw how he was losing to it day by day, until july 24th, 2006 came and he couldn't resist anymore, he wanted to rest. I lost him, we lost our pillar, and it been hard since then
I know how hard its to fight cancer, and reading how his cancer has shrunk and its operable now, its quite an amazing news, even greater than Osama's and Sadams news
Good luck on your operation and hope everything works fine, my sis is quite a great fan of Zero no Tsukaimasu
Zero no Tsukaima?
CURSE YOU CANCER!
I already sort of know this already
It aggravates me that there's a cure for cancer and people are still 'battling' it.
If there is a "cure" then plenty of people would like to know about it. Cancer is treatable, but not always, and the success rates are not very inspiring.
Surgically removing the offending tissue isn't a cure.
There actually is one, it was discovered in Canada not too long ago. Nobody seemed to care about it though, it was tested and it got rid of cancer cells.
That only worked for a very specific kind, and not always, tests are still being done.
Enlighten yourself before you spout bullshit and give people false hope.
It's a cure and it's cures. Maybe if it was given a bit more attention despite how little it'll make money, there would be a full blown cure by now.
What are you talking about? A cure for cancer would make a shit ton of money.
How much would Steve Jobs pay to cure his cancer?
they are asking people to forgive them for something that they had no control over like getting cancer.
Look, don't worry about us retards, just get better and focus on your work when your better.
