In this brief introduction it should hopefully be apparent what an outstanding title Clannad is, up there with the most heart-rending movies and books. It may seem pretty otaku-ish but it’s well worth experiencing if you can just get past that.
You may even hear some of the Clannad heroines using useful phrases and behaviour which you can make use of yourself…

i've played plenty of bishoujo game and i have to admit, Clannad has the most characters i could like in a single game... other game just does not project lovely girl as good as Clannad...

I think they are mostly confused by the fact that most other Key games have been eroge. Kanon and Air were both eroge (although they had clean versions as well), and although the original Little Busters! was clean, the Ecstasy expansion added H scenes (which were removed again for the PS2/PSP port). Tomoyo After was also an eroge, so many people may simply have assumed Clannad was an eroge, too.
The irony is that, at least in my opinion (and I know others who share it), the H scenes in Key games always seem awkward (almost as if they'd been shoehorned in as an afterthought), and the experience not only suffers nothing by their omission, but actually benefits thereby.

To be clear: Clannad - unlike Kanon and Air, but like the original version of Little Busters - did NOT have H scenes. Tomoyo After had H scenes, but Clannad itself did not.
The Japanese gamers are actually less sticklers about this label than western gamers are..
A lot of Japanese otaku just spout out 'galge' and 'eroge' describing these games. Some still use it a ridicule, but some just use it as an umbrella term.
