A lonely otaku desperate to sleep with Cure Pine but unable to obtain any dakimakura of her has taken matters into his own hands and made a DIY dakimakura of her, with the finished article being of surprising quality, economy, and ease of manufacture.
He shared the secrets of her manufacture with 2ch, as reproduced below.
The guide:
My wife’s dakimakura is sold out… there’s nothing for it but to make her myself!
Materials:
Dakimakura (the pillow itself)
Dakimakura cover
The picture you want to print [an unofficial picture of Cure Pine in this case]
Iron print paper
Tools:
Inkjet printer
Cutter
Cellophane tape
Ruler
[Summary instructions:
First magnify and print the picture as a poster on multiple A4 sheets to test its fit. The standard size for a dakimakura is about 120cmx40cm.
Then print to the iron-on paper, remembering to reverse the image as it will be transferred back to front.
After this trim off the excess paper, leaving 5mm or so around the edge of the image.
Next, tape the cut sheets together – take care they do not have gaps or can become unstuck.
It’s important to read the instructions for the paper – in my case, the sheets were made by Epson and stated they should only be used on pure cotton fabrics.
Next you place the sheets onto the cover, which you should lay on a firm, flat surface – on the floor with some newspapers will do. Then iron it on, following the instructions given with the paper.
Once it is finished you peel off the paper, taking special care to make sure it comes off properly and that everything adhered OK.]
My thoughts on making it:
Good:
It is cheap, 1270 for the pillow, 780 for the cover, and 2000 for the paper, so 4050 in total. You can make it with any picture you like.
Bad:
Depending on the size of the original the print can turn out rough. The printed side doesn’t feel so good. It may not be very durable, although some say they have had them for over a year without degradation.

Man, at first I thought his wife wasn't willing enough to share her Dakimakura, so he had to make his own.
That's one badass wife I'd like to have.
watchout for jealous girls who'd bash you
or choke you in your sleep.
Macguyver otaku among otaku
yandere sounds good to me :)
His wife would prolly be a macho-ota. SOoooo...you really want to borrow that pillow?
This article...one word...Genius!
Time to buy the materials and tools listed to make my own.
I'd like to make one with Anaru on...
I'd like to make one with with an Anaru in it ...
Make those boobies of hers too.
Share the pic later bro :3
Maybe i'll do a custom t-shirt first when i get the tools and materials.
@shirayuki619 Maybe something else.
is your pic the one you're making...?
~ "When there's a will, there's a way"
~ "When there's a waifu, there's a way"
Yes there always is
I must say, this is very impressive. Now give us an instruction on how to make a dakimakura that can hug us back (that cross dakimakura), or a perfect ona-hole.
How about an instruction on how to make an oppai mouse pad?
Seconded~
fourth... oh well, you got it.
third-ed
Best part of all this is, I said back in the Dakimakura that hugs you that people could make there own for far far less then what they sell for, and look at that, someone did. Admittedly this is a really cheap job of it but with practice it could last a while.
Get a girlfriend, place mouse on her stomach, enjoy...
Tried but failed. Human skin make the mouse movement speed goes uncontrollably hard.
It seems to work just fine on mine.
My optical mouse works fine on my skin, I dont see why it would magically stop working on someone elses.
optical mouse actually works very well on skin. because skin has high micro-roughness. the downside is high contact friction on the skin, making it less smooth moving for the mouse.
but yeah, no one probably cares...
apparently you don't have a Performance MX works on my glass desk...works on my skin...yeah I think its time for you to upgrade..
Implying only to cheap laser mouse or those ancient roller mouse. Tested my my skin, and it have no problem moving smoothly.
Mouse don't work when its on a flat pure smooth surface. Taking example mirrors or smooth plastic. And if it doesn't work somehow on your smooth plastic-like skin of yours. Its doesn't meant that others are dumbass and you would be right on your baseless fact.
wow someones mad at there life XD
am i the only one who lets her boyfriend actually do this? it tickles! ^o^
to all those comments above that state "on human skin..." i'm guessing it would be different with dog skin? how about reptile skin?? dumbasses....
The fact that you state that proves that you never try doing it, nor even having a girlfriend at the first place.
Mouse doesn't work well on human skin, dumbass.
>Implying a 3DPD girlfriend is something to give a shit about.
Geez. One pig squeals about A, another about B. That's why they never get to third base.
i settle to know how to get out those yellowish stains, without hurting the design, that come out after you cum over your dakimakura.
bore a hole and stick a fleshlight down there, voila!
Need some photoshopping first of course. Actually not a bad idea.
I'm loving it.
That bed... I'm feeling sleepy right now :)
He pined to sleep with her, through hard work, imagination and creativity. Such, is life of a dedicated person.
teehee "/pine/d"
I see what you did there.
An otaku among otaku!
Necessity and obsession are truly the "Mother of Invention".
I congratulate you!
Dakimakuras ain't my thing, and the guy's methods are crude at best, but I gotta applaud him for finding a DIY solution. If it gets damaged, he can just make another.
Gotta wonder though. Why some otakus go to lengths to pay a retail dakimakura cover at high price when they should be better off going to a custom shirt printing shops(where most kids get their unofficial black metal/grunge shirts to wear at gigs) and custom-tailor that shit at a relatively cheaper price with higher quality. They can pick any character(s) they like as long as the Internet has the image for it. Though they're focused on shirts, they should be able to tend to anything else as long as it's fabric.
I guess them otakus prefer finished goods so they can grab-and-go.
Not everyone has a custom shirt printing shops around their area.
Or they just don't wanna get 'that look' when they talk about it to the dude at the counter, lol.
You know, I wonder why nobody has thought of making a custom pillow-cover website like they have custom t-shirt sites. I've seen places that let you upload an image file and then size and relign it however you please on a shirt, which they then ship directly to you. The whole ordering process is automated, etc.
There are 2 places 5 min close to me... but i think they would call the police if i would show the image i want printed...
(not H image btw)
Some people tend to go for the official ones mainly because they're done with the standard and hi-quality materials and usually have the best and more reliable QC. Of course that's in comparison with those China bootlegs. Customs on the other hand are more flexible and optional although when it comes to quality, certain aspects do need deeper attention.
Plus, if stuff like "You're not a true fan if you don't shed that much money to buy the official dakimakura" comes to consideration, keep in mind that people who goes that far to build their own wife is also, if not more, considered as a dedicated otaku.
IMO, Customs >/= Officials >>>>>>>> Bootlegs
Oh, let's not forget another downside or inferiority on Officials is that they usually have a rather dull and SFW artworks unless the character is from an ecchi anime or eroge.
Knowledgeable and experienced, Victorique?
Or is that just the pieces of Chaos tell you that?
lol!
The thing with official shit is, you can't always be sure that their contractor did the QC thing. No game or publishing company would own a fabric arts division, and outsourcing is usually the case, but you can't expect their reps to make the best decisions all the time. Such is the merchandising nightmare, as was the case with FFXIV's shit(literally for this one though).
By handpicking your own stores, you can decide just how far you'd go when it comes to quality and how much to pay(hotpress vs. straight paint vs. God-forbid ETCH) and you can be more certain of the results.
Well, I'm speaking as the go-to person whenever the preps look for an 'agent' to get them those class or event Ts for cheap. I'm not experienced in dakimakuras, or more accurately I never had anyone asked, but the place I always go to does do other shit like detailed cloth banners. Even the artist guy said 'anything will do if you pay me to'.
