Japan’s love for most things Taiwanese (one of the few Asian nations not hated by large tracts of the population it seems) is especially evident when it comes to the women of the isle – 2ch is so taken with them that it has been stalking them online and collecting their “ero-kawaii” pictures for indeterminate use.

I've loved Taiwanese girls for a LONG time. I am especially fond of the pop band S.H.E who have three smoking hot examples, not to mention that their voices are quite angelic and very real.
Either way it's no real secret to anyone who's gone to a trade show (or other reason) and spent some time in Taipei that they have some seriously cute girls there.

as a Taiwanese, I can attest that cute girls are cute and you don't have to go sniffing around for traps. However, it'd be unreasonable to think that all the girls are like that. We are pretty darn fond of Japanese TV shows, bands, and the like.
Half of these were more buso-kawaii than ero-kawaii, but still a good gallery on the whole...

Taiwanese are Chinese, they speak the same languages which are Mandarin and Hokkien/Fujianese, both of which are spoken in mainland China and it's colony Taiwan

Taiwan had several tribes of aborigines long before any Han set foot on it.

Technically Taiwan was originally known as China because they were the original Chinese government that was ousted when the communist took over. The United States then only recognized Taiwan as the only China and did not recognize the PRC.
Also the original inhabitants of Taiwan are those considered Taiwanese but a lot of them have mixed with each other, so it doesn't really make a difference anymore. Taiwanese or Chinese just label them Taiwanese or they'll rip you a new one. =\

The Chinese Nationalists fled the mainland when the PRC came into power. The US, in its infinite wisdom, only recognized the Nationalist government of Taiwan as the true China. The PRC claims Taiwan as one of its various provinces. Taiwan is split between those who want to be counted as their own nation, those who think that the mainland should be part of a China governed by Taiwan, and those who are totally okay with the current situation, where China just leaves them alone (occasional harassment from across the Straits notwithstanding) while claiming to own them.
But yeah, there's only one China. Or so they say.
