A ranking of the top new anime of 2011 so far already yields a surprising turnabout – after a tearful ending and doubtless thanks in no small part to the extreme popularity of Anal, the magical puellae have been ousted from their formerly secure top spot.

If Game of Thrones starts a trend, which I beg to every being in the higher planes of existence that it does, then we will be in our era finally of books generating SERIES! No more shitty truncated rewritten book movies, but a SERIES to give majesty and power to a whole story as it was meant to be!
Breaking Bad, Falling Skies, Game of Thrones, all of these excellent series are truly showing that great writing IS what makes true art and money!
However even Anime's shit is usually 10 times better than America's best currently. Get Steven Spielburg to produce some more cartoons and we'll have gold again.

I think the 2 above anon's forget that most of the best US Cartoon's aren't even barely shown on Cartoon Network these days. Shit Boomerang has such a backlog of shows they can't even show'em all. Also if you read the credits normally the animation is done on Cartoons are by Japanese or Korean animators. Next he's saying that America's "best" which are normally bad, extremely expensive action movies and drama whores on reality shows.

Ano Hana deserves its spot on that list.
It's honest, and doesn't jerk you around like all the wham-moment drama that usually makes an anime popular. For that alone, it deserves to outrank those anime.
Fail list: The World God Only Knows is forgotten after being on some lists as the most anticipated for Spring. Heck I just watched the last episode and it was a great season.
And I liked C. But you don't hear anyone talking about C either.
I won't rank it high, seeing how they didn't air "Keima's shopping with mom" episode.
Heck, that was my most favorite chapter in it's manga.

Manga beats the anime hands down.
It was pretty good I agree. But somewhat underwhelming compared to first season, and Manglobe kind of dropped the ball with animation. Not quite as solid animation-wise either.
Still pretty fun show.

Aria is mediocre at best. The only reason I see it so high is because of the Taiga+Ryuuji VAs.

If a crybaby show about a ghost girl and unlikable characters can beat Madoka's popularity, perhaps Madoka isn't that great of a show.
Dont know how To Aru is not in the top 5, though I'm glad Tiger & Bunny is up there, the show is great considering how cheesy it is (then again old-school super heroes shows = cheesy inherently). I'm much more pleased that Seikon no Qwaser and Yosuga are completely missing from this list. Maybe theres hope for anime fans after all.
To Aru isn't in the top five because it's such an obviously lazy anime. Why rank it higher if they didn't even try?
agree, JC didn't even try to animate that series seriously. The animation was horrible, the drawing was inconsistent, also, too much important information is removed, causing confusion to the anime viewers.
