Rurouni Kenshin Live Action Movie Confirmed

The live action adaptation of the popular tale of bakumatsu ronin Rurouni Kenshin has been officially confirmed, with actor Takeru Sato cast as in the titular role of Himura Kenshin.
The series originally ran in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1994 until 1999, and proved to be a major hit with sales of 50 million over 28 volumes, soon being adapted into a long-running anime series. The franchise’s highpoint was doubtless the generally excellent series of animated movies this in turn spawned.
The live action movie, the first in the franchise, will be directed by Otomo Keishi and produced by Warner Brothers Japan.
The decision to pick Takeru Sato for the lead role was lauded by the original mangaka Watsuki Nobuhiro (who reports that at the start of the project when he asked his wife who would be best for the role, the first name to pass her lips was that of Takeru Sato), hopefully suggesting the movie will meet a better fate than the majority of anime-to-live-action adaptations.
The movie is expected to be released in 2012.

I mean, the Yatterman movie wasn't total shit, but Takashi Miike can direct a giraffe in the role of a abusive mother and make it work.
I think a lot of this is gonna rely on what they decided the screenplay is based on and how well the director knows the material.

Well yeah not because of how well it COULD be made but because the people in-charge for these live-action adaptations usually have to no plan of doing justice how epic the originals were. I mean look at Akira, it was so epic and set the standards for it's time but when Hollywood got their hands on it, they didn't even try hard at all and even tried to white wash the cast

I'm fine with this guy playing Kenshin. I think he has the right look for it (Kenshin looked weaker than he was and that was the beauty of it.)
You know what? Why not watch the movie first before you go judging if this movie will suck.
Better to hope it doesn't suck then be pleasantly surprised, than to look forward to it being awesome only to be disappointed!
Most live-action movie adaptions of manga/anime suck, they're only trying to get a quick buck in the end.

The edge of reverse blade is blunt. It is only sharp at one edge, so Kenshin can use the blunt side and bash the shit without worrying that he will accidentally kill them.
The again thx god this is only an anime, a blunt metal and velocity can kill folks.
