Fans of top visual novel studio Key have been rejoicing at the long awaited release of Rewrite – so much so that in one case a fan was driven to buy 20 copies, coming in at over $2000.
The scene at the initial release followed along similar lines:
An anime version would seem an inevitability, although given that Little Busters never managed this nothing is certain…

LB will have its anime soon enough. KyoAni is just making sure they don't ride the Key gravy train too hard and make themselves have to do other series again.
YEAH, soon enough
Kyoani lost its ambition with the success of KON, why would they bother to risk it?
I don't get what you mean?
KyoAni can make easy money churning out moe paste K-ON or they can put some effort into adapting a video game with overly-sensitive, judgmental fans.
OH MAN WHAT ARE THEY GONNA DO
I don't get what you mean
What do you mean by this
Someone who supports anime unlike rawr pirates ^^ Support UP
Some people don't see it. These loyal fans are buying more copies to compensate for all the pirating that's going on online. It's just sad that however hard they try, the idea of a "free" game would get the best of most others who aren't as devoted to helping a company grow.
This day and age, there are many services for the majority of consumers (though I understand that some people live in countries with tight censorship laws) to buy a copy legally so there really is little excuse for downloading all one's media - especially eroge, where gameplay is fairly consistent throughout the genre and sites even offer demos before one decides to buy.
Well, yes, of course piracy is killing gaming. You've only got to look at other types of software - I mean, it's impossible to make a business around giving software away for free. No, wait...
Some people don't see it ~ I agree.
The most obvious thing is usually the right one.
-Someone buys a lot of copies
-he makes pcitures of it
-he brings them back to the shop or resells them
This could be either done for attention or viral marketing purposes. At least it made it to sankaku.
Also ...
>to buy a copy legally so there really is little excuse for downloading all one's media - especially eroge, >
I laugh at you ~
Illusion and alicesoft still bann foreigners from their sites.
Of course pirating is the only way in Key's games if you are not japanese...Rewrite has an anti-gaijin protection...the only way to play it is having a japanese window or crack the game.
And in times like these maybe piracy should be encouraged.
>Illusion and AliceSoft still ban foreigners from their sites.
That's why the services were mentioned. You must never have heard of gaming news sites and proxy services.
I would have bought rewrite but, alas, it doesn't allow non-japanese OSs to start it.
control panel > regional and language options > administrative tab > change system locale > japan> restart > play game
Guess you are right.
The Japanese hardcore otakus are truly insane in that they believe a niche title and a niche following should further become niche in order to survive and curve such piracy.
Game publishers are so backwards in that they always try to punish normal gamers by jacking up the price in case of piracy. You'd think they would try something else, like lowering the price of games and up their availability including in foreign nations. Only a few publishers are that savvy though.
Then again, look at the ridiculous Sony situation and see how clueless the Japanese companies are at dealing with piracy.
"funny how nintendo stays mostly impervious to anything bad that could happen(hacking, piracy, bankruptcy), with the wii and the DS outselling any and all competitors by tens of millions. everybody talks about how there arent any good games for nintendo systems, but numbers dont lie. must be the price."
i just came to that conclusion in 15 seconds, please tell me there is someone AT LEAST that smart working for those companies.
They tried... but well you know... backlash and all from the white people in Europe and Americas.
White people hacked Sony PRECISELY because 1) It's a Japanese company and 2) Evidently one nuke wasn't enough for them and this is the only way they can pay them back.
2 nukes actually.
price 9800 yen are they expensive? yes that is when I decide to get it.
After unbox thing I got are.
- Illustration book they are 40 pages color and 40 page black and white.
They have illustation form magazine for who missed it.
Character introduction like other game manual. There also have three size for male character lol.
Rough scetch plan to make 2nd op movie and various comment.
Lyrics and note for both OP.
line art for some cg.
Short novel.
Manga for short introduction all characters.
and last 5 pages for game manual.
That's 84 pages for thing that should be game manual.
- 3 dvd interchangable cover
I change immidieatly because cover images are used in anything too much made me bored with that image.
- Lycee and Weib Schzwarz PR card.
PR card in Weib Schzwarz is just common card for their effect, they should release 3500 rare card later anyway so they just mainly use to told who you are playing with that you already bought this game.
- Game OST
Music is impressive. I usually open game for play bgm looping, that would help me not to do that again.
- Radio CD
Still did not open it it should be the same that airing on hibiki radio station.
- unique shop bundle I choose softmap.
- Lucia 3d image for show up her cleavage.
- Sizuru fabric image her length in images is 160 cm, taller than actual I tought it should be 1:1 ratio. It's that guy show 3 of them in topic. That seem worn out easily if actually using it getting spare part is understandable.
They sell these things together for 9800 yen is that expensive? sum these thing together if buy seperately game price is even lower than 4000 yen. Softmap is also offer to sell game without shop bundle for 6800 yen you think price was too high but I gladly to pay extra 3000 yen for that.
They add production value and impression of customer. These thing are memorable even game have not played anymore. Do you really want to pay for good game to get CD-KEY that allow you to play that game? I didn't see anything wrong with that as long as it not went too far to buy bundle and get game as bonus instead.
If you live in country where increase package size resulted in additional shipment and custom cost then resulted with 200%+ price form actual prize I feel sad with that too, but it is your and importer problem not Key problem.
And there have a way to run siglus engine on non Japanese OS. If you really want to play game and looking for info you should found it. Thing that really was annoyed me was they ship full HD OP movie together with full CD audio with demo resulted in 1.6 gb which lead manyone wait to download full game instead of demo.
I did that as well but I don't want to see company I like ended up like KID again, and thing that I can't download are worth money I was payed for them.
Buy 1-2 copies is worth but not that 20 copies like this. Is he going to get spare part of Sizuru altogether with all other shop unique item?
Yeah, because the manga/anime industry was doing terrible before the internet and the rest of the world was really able to browse the various titles.
I've played enough free to play Korean mmorpgs to know waiting months and months for content to get translated is really lame in general.
Waiting for a company to pick up a series only to get a half-assed american reference filled censored piece of crap isn't very appealing to me so I'd much rather a group of fans use their fan powers to translate and share that with their community.
Do you honestly know who you're supporting when you buy from a publisher other than the original for your translated copy of a series?
Some deluded fans here who are buying many copies over due to the great evil of pirating- whatever, the industry survived before and it honestly can only be better in modern day with the larger audience in general.
Let's enjoy our free interwebs while we can- you know they're diminishing into a capitalistic anonymous free zone quicker and quicker as is anyways.
Support your local pirates. :)
"diminishing into a capitalistic anonymous free zone quicker and quicker as is anyways."
How?
the internet is already communist, where everything there is everyone's.
but with corrupt politicians and greedy cable/internet companies, they might start limiting access/content, or charge you more for it.
already happened in canada, they have a 15(?)GB limit per month unless they are using cable (comcast ofc), might not seem like a big blow, but imagine what it might be like 5 years down the road.
Just because an industry was working before the internet became widely used does not automatically mean that it could continue thriving the same way today. The pre-internet age and modern times are not comparable. Back then, people would go out of their way to save up and shop for their interests. Now, with a simple few clicks, someone could have everything and more. Incorporating the internet, the system is far from perfect but piracy just taking advantage of the loophole for what you would have needed to pay for.
Keeping on the topic of eroge, no one said to wait for a translated version. Downloading a whole game for a fan translation because you can't understand the Japanese is a broken excuse for not learning something about the language of the people one preys off of. In the end, pirating is just taking things for one's own enjoyment and not giving anything back.
Clannad took 3-4 years before it received its anime treatment (game 2004, anime 2007-2009) , ditto for Kanon, which even had a remake 4 years later as the Toei version was universally panned (game 1999, anime Toei version 2002, Kyo-Ani version 2006). AIR took 5 years (game 2000, anime 2005).
So a Little Busters anime is only a matter of time.
At the moment, Kyo-Ani is preoccupied with Nichijou and the K-ON movie later this year, so any plans for LB will have to wait till next year earliest.
In the meantime, Key may have to decide whether to continue their partnership with Kyo-Ani, or explore their new collaboration with PA Works (Angel Beats).
Would they risk it, considering Little Busters didn't really get rave reviews? I've read some really scathing reviews of it before.
And ew, PA Works.. They better do a better job next time. For a show so much touted for production values like Angel Beats, there were too many insanely contorted limbs and weird finger proportions..
Risk it as in Key ditching Kyo-Ani for PA Works? If that's the case then you could be right.
When the Clannad game was first released, it was totally eclipsed by the Fate Stay/night game which came out at the same time. The same cannot be said of their anime adaptations.
So yes, the adaptation prowess of Kyo-Ani must also be taken into consideration.
about the reviews, they've rereleased LB 2 times with fixes.
in the end its still all up to preference, i personally enjoyed it, dosen't mean im right, doesnt mean the other guy making the review is right. just think of it as another Key game with extra features.
or explore their new collaboration with PA.What is this about?
Instead of going to Kyo-Ani to make Angel Beats, they went to PA instead. That's the partnership he's talking about.
I don't think it is a key anime
Nope, Angel Beats is an original production. Which means that it wasn't based off of a VN.
oh is that true
@Anonymous 16:36
In a nutshell, previous Key works were released as VNs before they got their anime adaptations. While Angel Beats was released as an anime only.
As VNs were not limited by any time constraints, main scenario writer Maede Jun was free to craft his story into the form he wants.
It would be up to the anime producers, in Key's case mainly Kyo-Ani, to decide how to adapt the long story into animated form by deciding how long the story should be and how much should be included or excluded.
OTOH, Maeda was given only 1-cour season (12 episodes) to tell his story for AB, which was hardly enough, given how grand he made the background and the high number of characters introduced in the show. That contributed to AB's lukewarm ratings.
Of course, as can be seen with AIR (or Madoka Magica for a more recent example), even a fantastic setting can be pulled off excellently in 12 episodes, the key is to strike the right balance between plot and development.
AB was arguably Maeda's first try in screenwriting for an anime, fans should hope that this "setback" should give him enough experience to come up with something better should he want to try again.
But until then, in terms of anime screenwriting, I would rate Urobuchi Gen (Madoka Magica) and Okada Mari (AnoHana, Hanasaku Iroha) above Maeda, even though I too am a fan of his writing.
Angel Beats was an original Key anime iirc, which was partially the reason why it wasn't exactly on par with all other Key franchises.
alright I don't get it.angel beats is a key product and a vn?
Angel Beats did not have Kyo-ani's help so it went down the drain
or explore their new collaboration with PA Works
Where did it says that
Key is Godly!
Why do these fuckers have so much money if they just stay at home? Man.
You haven't heard of the idle rich?
$2000.. I hate u..
$2000 is a bit rich for my blood on an individual purchase but I can relate to their enthusiasm.
I've done similar on a smaller scale (take a zero away).
Where does these fan get their extra money from?
Barely can buy one at that price...
Maybe he plans to sell them for more on ebay or something.
That only works if it's out of print that people will pay more than the original price. This is hot off the presses.
If there guy willing to buy 20 copies i wouldn't be surprise if it's already out of print.
This is why it was trying to order limited edition after the preorder date was over. -_-; Damn it greedy otaku, don't go buying 20 copies for yourself, wtf are you going to do with the all the extras? Resell them off of ebay for cash?
This is to compensate the ones shared on winny?
The fuck, wouldn't it be cheaper to make a prostrate cosplay as your favorite novel character and then fuck the living lights out of them.
