Aya Hirano has revealed she actually lived in New York for several years as an infant, and paid a visit there for the benefit of TV audiences – meeting some of the Big Apple’s creepiest otaku denizens along the way.
She apparently lived in New York when she was aged 2-3:
She also paid a visit to an unidentified NY anime shop and supposedly let the lucky “Dave-san” cop a feel (a privilege it is hard to imagine her extending to any Japanese otaku), whilst meeting some of America’s finest cosplayers:
Most of 2ch seems to think this distinctly contrived looking encounter was a setup, a none too implausible conclusion given Japanese TV’s track record in this area.
She called in on her childhood nursery:
No Hirano appearance is complete without the obligatory slatternly utterance:
“I bought nothing but lots of T-backs”
“But I thought they’d never use that bit!”

As soon as I read "cosplayers" ... I knew they were going to look like that.

I will bear that in mind for future articles.
^No shit Sherlock :D
a wild admin, i have never seen one in the wold before
Guys, I think this dudes an admin O_O
*runs away*
@Anon,since it's SC,a lot of people kinda predicted that
She was pretty editable at 3.
scary very scary!
I was happy when I noticed that I have the same pillow as the one in the pic, then I saw the cosplayers, I frowned T-T
When I noticed that you have such a pillow, I frowned.
fat people in cosplay=fail!!!
i was only half-erect
They're just the "wide-ban" version.
found the 4:3 version

well thats still not right

there we go, black bars~
If they aren`t Japanese. Ohno rules!
That would be:
"America's Finest Cosplayers"
Sounds like a great idea for a new Fox series!
I'm genuinely happy for her. She really looks like she's enjoying herself.
She deserves a break from the crap she's been getting back home.
Go Aya!
Damn... The US gets all the best special guests. Minori Chihara was invited to a recent con no?
Never gonna happen in Singapore. Even if it did, there would be no meet and greets and any hope of receiving any autographs will be in the form of lucky draw prizes.
We're way too cheap.
I'm hoping for the day when the entire SOS-dan descends onto this red dot of us.
All we had so far is a Keion-bu without Mio and a Hanazawa Kana.
And May'N...again.
...and not to mention, no meet and greet and NO AUTOGRAPH SESSION! I'm still pissed about that one.
Lucky Draw contests suck because people who don't care much for the Seiyuu might win as opposed to someone who is a really, really big fan.
...or you could spend a ton of money on their VIP concert tickets. Urgh. We still have a ton to learn.
Oh yeah. But then again, you had to still buy something. If I'm not mistaken, they also weren't allowed to sign anything other than the merchandise right?
Well,I went to Singapore for the AFA X,there was also Milky Holmes, lest you are not a fan of the series
I am the young woman in the background in 015 (not the cosplayer obviously). My Japanese friend (standing with me) and I were pretty excited to meet her; we got pics, I spoke with her, AND she signed my Haruhi novel.
The encounter in the shop was indeed a setup, the producers told everyone to act as surprised as possible. I mostly stayed in the background with my friend, taking pics and giggling like schoolgirls.
I'm not the biggest fan of her, but she was actually rather good-looking in person and was very sweet to all of her fans. She did a little free talk with us and did character voices on request. Silly me, I forgot to ask her to do Katya from Seikon no Qwaser... !
It was actually really nice meeting her, and I'll take great care of the novel she signed!
Thanks for the report.
I never knew there are ACTUAL female readers on Sancom!!
@NTSA,you are darn lucky, kinda wished I was there.
And you even had her signature!
Thanks for the report!
The store employee "Oh my god!" reaction pretty much gave it away (for non-Japanese at least) - Japanese audiences apparently demand this as the standard expression of shock from Americans...
Yeah, I had the same impression when I met her.
I think the origin of all her problems is... being a BAKA!
No, seriously, if she could use her head, she'd still had her seiyuu career intact with fat fanboys (now being haters) masturbating all over.
lol NTSA, anyone can say that.
Well, but i do feel that there's an extremely high chance the encounter was a setup.
I like the reaction shot in the corner when she's shaking hands with the Haruhi cosplayer.
Awesome...That anime shop owner looks like he's about to come out of his skin from Aya's presence~
coughluckybastardcough
@Megidola
Same here...These are very lucky fans to have met Aya in person...
agreed, meeting the seiyuu while cosplaying the seiyuu's character is one of a kind feeling
when it happens, most people are omgomgomgomg
The shop is "Forbidden Planet" in Union square NYC... FYI.
@17:56 She should stop eating *fixed*
i think you missed the point of cosplaying -_-
shiit. i never knew famous people go to FP. the anime section in there always seem so dead lol. someone needs to tell her to come to elizabeth center. :) thatll be sweet.
Thank you~ I'll check it out when I drop by New York for the fireworks...
That Haruhi cosplayer is so fat, she should stop cosplaying...
That is just one of the employees from Forbidden Planet NYC (not an owner), the comic shop that has an anime section in their upstairs section. He is overly exaggerated on average... maybe putting him in front of a camera just amplified it?
Oh Aya. How you love black men.
Aya can for me love who she ever want. No issue for others.
That's not convincing coming from someone with her as his avatar.
@Yoshii-kun,funny as ever...
lol. I sense trolling.
did she get some black dick that night?
Most likely, a slut always a slut everywhere
The reaction here is completely opposite when comparing Lady Gaga's visit to Japan and Hirano Aya's visit to America.
Pics #2 & 3 were taken at Rye Beach in Westchester County NY. Same local as the fortune teller scene in the movie "Big"(1988) that Tom Hanks starred in.
Aya, cute then, cute now!
My God your right!
My parents used to take me there lots when I was a kid. Just think, we're about the same age and might have brushed by one another. Strange world!
