Totori is on the way, it's just that apparently the people bringing these over take more time to localize them and get the rights than it does for the damn creators to make a WHOLE OTHER GAME!!

It actually takes them a similar amount of time. Rorona was also the same.
Also, the Atelier games are incredibly text-heavy, so, unless you want a shoddy translation, then yes, it takes that much time. Seriously.
Coming from someone who translated a visual novel, which is comparable.
yeah, it takes NIS America around 6 months to translate these games....and another month to butcher them with "localization"
Actually, that wouldn't be so erroneous, albeit the liscencing should take away some time, as well.
By the way, how does exactly NISA butcher any games with their "localization"? Leaving aside the much-mentioned AT2 example that everyone seems to focus on. Rorona's localization was pretty good, for example, and so was Neptunia's. And AT3's. And hell, about almost every localization they've done since then.
Just saying.
I think most of it is the licensing honestly, because while it's very word-heavy... it's also not very word heavy by comparison to others that have come out faster. I'm all for them taking their time and doing it right, though. It's just a bit frustrating. I wonder how many translators they have on it as well. I know fewer is better due to consistency, but also there's someone to check the dialogue as well. Oh well, I guess it's all double the time it'd be normally anyway to match the feel they seek. Apparently these days they work much more closely with the Japanese side to make sure it's translated correctly. At least sometimes.
And what was the translation issue with AT2? I remember mention of it, but it's been a while.

Without it, it would be literal and incoherent mess with jokes that make 0 sense to anyone who is a native English Speaker
Which is why it's great when a game console is region free and you can just import the game if you know the language.

Why on earth is the flamberge longer than the longsword (even the blade alone) if the longsword is called... LONG-Sword?
Because a flamberge tends to be a two-handed weapon, which tend to be longer than one handed weapons.
The Long sword is simply a blade with a longer surface area than might be customary. Contrast it with a short sword or a broad sword.
Because its blade was longer than the short swords..d'uh!

These Atelier games (Atelier Rorona, Atelier Totori, Atelier Meruru) don't even have any stories, obviously the only reason these games are selling well (in Japan) is because of the "cuteness appeal" and nothing else.
Actually, they sell because gameplay.

But really, Totori had an actual story and it was just damn fun to play.

Yes, the one that consisted of becoming the most adorable hardcore time manager ever known in the history of mankind, and achieving different, seemingly impossible tasks one after another.
Really, the only flaw in Rorona was its battle system. And even then, some battles could be fun as hell. See: Every boss battle in said game.
