Sony Unveils PlayStation Vita

Sony has officially announced the release of its PSP successor, the PlayStation Vita, formerly known as the NGP.
The new handheld will be released at the end of 2011, priced at a distinctly reasonable (for Americans at least) $249/€249/¥24980 for the standard wifi model and $299/€299/¥29980 for the 3G/wifi model, which requires the usual exploitative data plan.
The launch titles:
PS Vita’s launch lineup is a force to be reckoned with, featuring exciting and attractive new titles from SCE Worldwide Studios, including UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss, LittleBigPlanet, and Ruin (working title), which utilize PS Vita’s groundbreaking technology to make unprecedented immersive, interactive and social game play available on-the-go.
In addition, titles such as Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Reality Fighter, Hustle Kings, ModNation Racers, Wipeout, Super Stardust Delta and a broad range of third-party game developers and publishers make use of PS Vita’s unique feature set.

Sony further promises new ways of having personal information stolen whilst being stalked in public, by way of its “LiveArea” system:
Further enhancing your entertainment experience are new PS Vita features, such as “LiveArea,” an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows you to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; “near,” a pre-installed application that lets you see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; “Party,” which lets you voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser; and “Welcome Park,” a tutorial application designed specifically to guide you through PS Vita’s new user interface.

actually from what i believe the 3000 still took a year and its still only a kernel exploit, unless im mistaken
The fact the name is close to "vista" is a bit disturbing but it look more interesting than 3DS, but I'm not really a sucker for handhelds.
well both are italian words, vista mean "sight", like "there is a beatiful sight from here".
Vita mean "life".

PSV is also a dutch football club and I must say, they're frickin' good. Hope there's a some sort of parallelism with PlayStation Vita...

Sony Playstation hardwares has been on the region-free bandwagon since 2004, atleast for games. Sony not mentioning region-lock is a good sign because it was the same way when PSP and PS3 was launched.

The Ps vita is going to use NVG (Flash card) for the software.
But....can you make a phone-call with it?

$249 is a pretty reasonable price, cheapstake. Even the cellphone I am currently using costs $300.
Vita + s = Vista, OK so SONY has finally sold it sole to Microsoft, yey we are all fucked now. First Skype became Sky.NET and then SONY became next Vista LONGHORN, good luck SONY will see it fail ones again.

The moment Skype merges with Microsoft's .NET Framework we are all fucked. Still Vita sounds bit gay like its made in Mexico or something, prob will be knowing SONY got there ass kicked by hackers.

Touch Screen feature might come in handy for future games coming out in Japan.

I'm cautiously optimistic, as I was about this excited about the 3DS when it was announced, but that didn't quite live up to expectations. It seems Sony's learned its lesson about pricing its systems though, 250 isn't that much at all (although it's not quite as nice for the PAL regions).
The funny thing is the price...It's the same as 3DS but the PSV is alot better in any aspect.

psv is great on paper, but i bet the only games it's gonna get are crappy ports from ps3... The reason why DS dominates so much atm is because the games for it are in majority completely different from what you play on PC/stationary consoles, not to mention that ds was working so much better as a handheld than psp (much stronger battery,able to play comfortably in a strong daylight)
Most of the 3DS games are ports from the DS/DSi.

Bust a move, Class of Heroes, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Legend of Zelda (not from DS but a remake), Mario Kart, Love Plus, Nintendogs, One Piece, Raving Rabbids, Ridge Racer, Samurai Warriors, Devil Survivor Overclocked, Super Mario, Tales of Abyss (PS2 remake with no changes), etc, etc. So many are remakes with no or little changes...
You`re just whining because there's no remake of FFVII.

I already play NES, thank you. The best things about this is that there's no loading time and you can start the game and play.
Today it's more like start the game, waste your time while the game loads, than waste your time some more reading boring instructions.
