The cutest, most appealing, effective or otherwise well matched anime couples have been ranked by fans, with the top spot going to a particularly appealing pair.
The ranking, which needless to say is restricted to male/female couples (those looking for something else are directed to the yuri anime ranking), with one interesting exception:

As some have said, such lists show a strong recency effect, with the latest anime tending to dominate – given the rapidity with which anime fans (not least those of a type B persuasion) forget one season’s favourites in favour of the new crop, this is perhaps an unavoidable reflection on their fickle tastes.
That said, it is hard to see Taiga and Ryuji being displaced from the head of the list any time soon…

These poll takers sure seem to have short memories as this list is mostly composed of only recent anime... I am glad however, that Taiga+Ryuji, Tenshi+Otonashi, and Horo+Lawrence are listed.

Ironically, both barely can be called friends, Mikoto usually appears and Touma runs away or chases after a magician or he just disappears just in time when Mikto arrives... seriously, those shippers are the hell crazy.

Well Anonymous brother, the same story goes for the IS STRATOS part, as far as i know Charlotte likes Ichika, but not different, although you would say they look like a couple, i think people mean the same for Misaka and Touma.

Amber rocks! I still don't understand why people keep choosing Yin over Amber. It's not like I hate Yin, but I'm kinda tired of emotionless moe now (and extreme tsundere like Louise or Victorique)
I prefer yin to amber, amber diddnt get enough screen time and massive character dev so shes not as awesome as she could have possibly been. On a side note, ryuuji and taiga(spell check says this is right? O.o) arent that great. And oh got 15, WHY??? Also i prefer tomoyo and kyou to nagisa, nagisa is a great girl, but the other two out shine her.
