Why did I even start surfing through these top lists?… Should’ve figured it would boil down to popular vote. And by that definition, most viewed shows will rank, with much lessened regard to actual relevance.
Most powerful anime deaths, animes you should know, animes you waste your life by missing, most sad yet beautiful animes or some such, sigh. You try and get some info by putting your feelers out but almost everything’s predictable. The lists are mostly just the same several shows. Some of the most popular shows aren’t listed, but these are still very popular shows nonetheless.
Whereas I saw no mention of a myriad of great shows I’ve watched that are, in comparison, obscure. Time of EVE, Level E, Usagi Drop and others, not a single ranking. And such less famous shows compose my favorites, all by merit. These are shows where I see universal positive critical acclaim, yet are apparently much, much less watched than any of these that made the lists. That’s just a shame.
I would’ve rather had the rankings as defined by unbiased professionals, but I suppose that’s wishful thinking. Ultimately, such lists are all about popularity.
