Tactile paving, bumpy high visibility tiles set into pavements to act as guides for the visually impaired (in fact a Japanese invention), is finally finding its way into the cities of China – although some have expressed reservations about the made in China version having the exact opposite effect to what was intended.
The actual purpose of the tiles seems not to have filtered down to all those tasked with setting them, or is simply not cared about.
Indeed, in some cases it almost seems as though the tiles were part of an intentional effort to get rid of the follower…

I live there. It's not really so bad. In fact, perhaps the reason China is growing to dominate the world is precisely because they can pretend to be Communist while enacting the most extreme forms of no-regulation Capitalism. Whereas the USA for example pretends to be capitalist but is in fact Communist. USA has the developed world's highest corporate tax rate for example more than twice China's MAINLAND rate. And China even has a 0% tax haven for corporations (Hong Kong) which attracts millions of jobs. USA bails out banks such as Citigroup who is headquartered in Hong Kong, so the US bailout money goes to create jobs in China, xie xie USA!
The West may think it heartless, but not spending massive amounts of money on your unproductive elements (unemployed, disabled) and not forcing massive regulations (handicap standards, blind guides like this, etc.) does help an economy boom.
Everyone says they want jobs but nobody in the West seems to understand what that entails.
I'm more worried about the fact that china has so many death traps, just on the sidewalk, i couldn't even imagine walking, let alone driving in a city thats has random trees, ditches and manholes/earthholes that they just "build around"

As a Chinese, I look it as a shame. Actually, It is common in China. You can see this situation in almost every China's cities.The main reason is that those managers of the cities pay attention to GDP but neglect whether the cost is useful. In fact, the disabled, including the blind, seldom leave their house alone-many departments in high buildings have no lifts-becasue it is difficult for them if they don't have helpness from their family. Further more,they cannot afford the cost of an electric wheerchair.Thay are so pity.Please not make fun of them and if you can, help them.

These can usually be found in railway stations in many countries.
They go alongside the platform, to inform people that if you step further, you will fall.

no you see the way they did it that some lead the blind to helpful places like cross walks and such. Then they have ones leading to cliffs and holes. So blind will think oh this leads me somewhere... wham into the hole. It was showing that some were miss leading. The point of those is to guide you to your destination not lead you to a hole.
Even if it was for decoration, this is still an unwise use. Blind people will still mistakenly use it regardless until told otherwise.

Dots mean stop. Bars mean walk. The ones in railway stations that warn of edges are dots. Most of the ones in these photos are bars that lead into dangerous situations.
