Sony has finally offered a firm date for the restoration of PSN services – the end of May.
Sony spokesman Shigenori Yoshida told Bloomberg they plan to fully restart services (down since the 20th of April) on the 31st of May, although in the same announcement he also said Sony was “uncertain” about this.
However, Sony does claim partial functionality in the form of actual online play may be available before then, so only nearly all is lost.

2)Sony is doing this in Phases, 1st they are going to bring back Online, chat functionality, friend list and few other services online first, then later on, they would bring the PS store back online.

Im a PS3 only owner, and while I am generally happy with it, you could understand my frustration with PSN being down for this long.

Well, I doubt I can fully understand what you're dealing with as I'm not an online gamer, even though I own a PS3 and 360, everything I own except for MAG,L4D2,BC2,MW2, so a total of 22 games on each console are single player and I don't even play those 4 anymore.

I think the biggest frustration comes form the people who had JUST gotten Mortal Kombat 9 the day of or before PSN going down and return home to find they can't play online.
My personal frustration comes form the fact I can't use my bloody NetFlix account on my PS3 which was one of the features I loved and used often. Yeah I know I can use it on my Computer but I prefer being able to watch it on my big screen TV with surround Sound rather than being stuck on my 15in laptop with Poor Quality Stereo.
Second that Netflix still works. You have to access Netflix, then it prompts you to sign in. Just try to sign in and it will give you the usual ("PSN is undergoing maintenance") message, press circle to exit the message and you are in the main menu for Netflix.
Ok Netflix works just keep pressing the circle for cancel to sign out than Netflix will come up and work.
I think your bigger frustration is that you buy a console twice as expensive than an Xbox and it actually doesn't does anything than an Xbox can do (except the bluray, reader, I guess).

They shouldn't have messed with the hackers. If they just released new firmware to block the hacks, I don't think anyone would've even cared. But they had to sue Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, two pretty high profile hackers. They are asking to get hacked.

No, what they did isn't a crime. Graf_Chokolo was restoring OtherOS, a feature that people used and gave you the ultimatum "Want OtherOS? Don't update your PS3 and be unable to play online or use Netflix, Hulu Plus and features added in new system updates on your PS3." And Geohot was enabling the ability for people to make their own homebrew apps for the PS3. He even implemented anti-piracy measures in his actual firmware release, people went on and worked around his anti-piracy measures to enable it though, and then people went and used his firmware as a base to develop more firmwares that made pirating either. However when a console is hacked piracy always comes, whether you like it or not. Instead of trying to quell it and turn people off of your system by having extremely publicized lawsuits against hackers and pissing them off, just disable online for them, and let them do their thing. It's what Microsoft does. They ban the consoles but don't ban Live accounts because those actually belong to people and they spend money to use them.

Honestly, I could care less about multiplayer being back. All my PS3 games are either single player or local co-op. As long as I can get my LA Noire download content, I'm not worried.
Don't bother with the PS3 version then, Rockstar games always underperform on PS3.

The time frame may be seen as ridiculous by some. But I'd much rather Sony take their time to implement a decent system for the PSN than to half-ass something together. Confidence in Sony is obviously at an all time low and they know it. And gaining back consumer trust isn't going to happen overnight.
Unfortunately things like this (the PSN hacking) is what it takes to get the ball rolling with improvements. Sometimes someones foot needs to go through a rotten deck and become injured before repairs are realized and done. Sad but true.

PSN downtime doesn't magically make the 360 have more games. Look at the 360 exclusive lineup..pitful to say the least. All you need is a pc and a ps3.

Well you have nothing else and if you aren't in a rush to get them you can always wait a little and get them on PC and they will be way better. What possible reason would you have to play on Live when you can play on a dedicated server on a PC or even bigger franchise games on the PS3? Placing games all under such an awful system as LIVE is just asking for trouble. There's a reason a lot of people I know and I DON'T have Xbox LIVE Gold anymore and I avoid playing Games for Windows LIVE like the plague. Have you ever had to wait hours for a patch to download only for it to fail at that point? I sure as fuck have.
hey man some of us can afford a nice pc and all the consoles and choose between the ps3 and pc...there's nothing worth while on 360. get an awesome pc and buy all kinds of games on steam and I know you'll be having more fun than on the 360...and before the outage, having portal 2 on ps3 and the free copy on steam was really nice since I was waiting for my awesome gpu to show up...that's the kind of thing you can't do on live. I was able to sync my ps3 and pc saves thanks to steam cloud on psn.
