NHK Airs Eroge Exposé

Unusually, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK has aired a programme delving into the culture and history of eroge and visual novels.
The show in question, the otaku-oriented MAGNET, featured prominent writer Jun Maeda of Key fame, journalist Daisuke Tsuda, Key founder Itaru Hinoue, and a little peak into the studio of Nitroplus – along with plenty of classic eroge/visual novels (the tame bits at least).

The most controversial part of this program was without a doubt where one of Japan’s first eroge, Lolita Syndrome (Maison Rolita), was featured – an unusual choice of material for an ordinarily conservative state TV channel:

leaf aquaplus is till giant in bishoujo game, bot eroge and galge
their HD console title the only one can trump 5pb/n+ title in term of sales with tears to tiara PS3 sold more than stein gate x360, and tears to tiara avalon PS3 are just a bit behind stein gate, and white album sold pretty good better than
5pb/n+ title both stein gate and chaos head are the top best selling 360 galge and yet aquaplus manage to beat those sales eventough their game on PS3 (which is not galge console at the past, now it is different tough since PS3 starting to get exclusive galge with upcoming title like fortune arterial, to heart 2 dx+, tears to tiara 2 utawarerumono 2,suigetsu 2)
Key is almost overexposed with anime fans nowadays. Not saying they're bad. Just a bit too hyped maybe.
While Nitroplus, Minori and Leaf chugs along with quality classics.
Especially with older titles, it's just pure, distilled romance. Not as much fluff or sensationalism like today (not that it's bad. It's just a different philosophy back then).
Bandai Namco Games does some really amazing eroge/galge nowadays too. I'm sure every galge player is either a fan or has heard a lot about Idolmaster and Ore no Imouto PSP.

they've all made good games, so i'm just happy that their hard work is being recognized by "mainstream" media.
Funnily enough i'm replying to my own comment but while you say Nitro+ with great titles which I personally adore such as Saya no Uta (however really fucked up that was); Chaos Head and titles from Leaf like 2 heart (as mentioned/pictured?) in the article never liked anything from alice soft too...dunno the word it's like over H- and.. the storys are kinda off putting and don't get to me, it's a personal thing geh (getting off subject /ahem) buy Key's story and character design is just beautiful(At least to my taste), type moon needs more of a mention as for Galge's(Gal + ge Gal as in Girl ge as in a crude shorting of game, also known as Bishoujo Game(gemu in romanji I guess)) vs Visual Novels.. but also if this topic were to come up we're have to get into things like Eroge, Dating sim..etc..etc each means something slightly different but vaguely it's used okay most words lose their original and true meaning (like the long lost lol≠word ) however for the most part I felt like showing off my knowldge of these things and maybe perhaps clearing my name of being biased, twas a small ironic joke ont he fact that a majority of publications mentioned are of key/Visual Arts. :D

They should go learn a bit from Alicesoft, just look at the brilliance of Sengoku Rance.
S|e|7|e|N, I wouldn't put Leaf or Minori over those necessarily. Just that some of these companies has done it the old fashioned way of making galge. And yeah, Type Moon and Alicesoft are real powerhouses too. Doesn't Alicesoft trace back to the earliest days of galge?
Type Moon, for me, seems more like it's about the sense of adventure than the way most of these stories centers around the romance/girls' ending parts, though some Type Moon games I played seemed to feature more of that. But I get the feeling that the main arc of the story is more important. It's kind of like how it is in recent 'galge' titles that some westerners are more keen to titling 'visual novels' as a genre.

I only recognized Paradise Heights 2, just read/played it a couple of days ago again (the disc cover with a big "2" in it). Some of these look great, wish I knew if they have official or fan translations.

(inb4 rage) much like how the art work in Neon Genesis is outdated, however truly bloody fantastic the anime is.
I thought To Heart TV show was nice. Sad they don't tend to go for anything other than the main route in To Heart shows. The games are considered a classic now though.
