you can find a fairly cheap apartment through gaijin houses like http://www.sakura-house.com/ if you overlook the fairly small size they are about as cheap or cheaper than housing in any large city in a first world country.
even though they are technically gaijing houses you don't have to be a gaijin to live there, how odd.

Your usage of the word Japan is wrong... It's places in major cities, such as Tokyo are ridiculously expensive. And the same could be said for the five major boroughs of New York City.
Use to live part time off the ship in a Hotel for 192,000 yen a month back in 2002~2006 with most of it paid off by Uncle Sam. I could only use about 2~3 months a Year, but I was free from that fucking ship when it docked!

Millions of Japanese can afford an apartment with parking in Japan. It's called not living in a big city.
I currently have two cars, but I live 50 km from the next major city. My rental place comes with parking for 2 cars, one of them is covered. Unfortunately it means that any guests have to park at the convini next door. I pay 75,000 yen a month for a 2LDK. My living room is bigger than some of my friend's apartments in the city.
Japan is more than Tokyo, folks. This is the home of Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, Etc. We drive cars here.
And obviously you need to park them eventually...and that talk that housing in japan is expensive is related to where you are, just like everywhere else in the world... here in Brazil there're some places that are so expensive while there are some places that it's much more cheaper...and i'm talking about places in the same CITY(são paulo)...so in other words you can either pay your whole paycheck to live in a small apartment on the heart of the city or you can simply pay 10 times less in an apartment or a house that probably will be bigger than the downtown one and easily take your car and drive for a bit more to the downtown...

I've been spending my money on figs and stuff so i can't afford a queen size bed, so i have improvise and combine my single bed and couch.
I'm a girl. I had a queen but gave it away because futons mean more space for more stuff that isn't bed.
To think, I could do my room like these if I wasn't such a miser. :l
