The random, surreal-Dadaist sense of humor in this show is REALLY reminiscent of "Goodbye Mr Despair" and "Negima?" by SHAFT, after all....
nah, kyoani is simply versatile. they turned everything to gold, indeed.
I don't see any connection between this and any SHAFT show. And I've seen every show SHAFT has made since they made their own shit, except for Negima.
This is just standard surreal humor.
Also, Kyo Ani nor SHAFT makes the humor, they are adaption of existing mangas or 4komas. They just animate them and fill in the gaps. Change some here and there, but the jokes are not their own.
You can clearly see where KyoAni really is at if you watch Munto. WHICH IS SHIT. They're just really good at adapting things. But horrible at creating things.
The manga itself was surrealistic comedy gold to begin with anyway. All the haters saying it's "Azumanga copy" are just out of line. Granted, the artstyle seems very similar. But it's more in the line of other surreal comedies like Gag Manga Biyori and Cromartie High.
Suck it haters.
And with their production quality, it's enough to make you hate them, seeing as their animation could be put to better use on ANY OTHER ANIME IN THE HISTORY OF EVER.
Seriously, KyoAni, do another TSR, not this moeblob-stuff-that-should-take-less-than-a-frame-per-second!

I still don't know how this measures up against Lucky Star but it certainly seems to be beating it in sheer WTFery! KyoAni does it again!
Even tough the show is somewhat lackluster in every aspect (especially the humor), it's more tolerable than Lucky Star or K-On. Granted it's random, but it doesn't have that punch that some other animes in this genre had. Azumanga Daioh, or even better, Cormartie High School tops this baseing on the first two episodes. Sure, it has it's moments (or seconds, to be presice), but it's fairly average at best. Again, I'm saying this baseing on the first two episodes. But one thing is for sure, it's much better than Lucky Star's annoying sense of humor and K-On's sheer boringness.
