Bioware’s blockbuster Mass Effect is to receive an anime movie adaptation, to be produced by Funimation and T.O. Entertainment, the creators of such memorable SF classics as Freezing and Baka to Test.
The anime itself is due worldwide in 2012 (including in Japan, where the latest game sold all of 9,000 copies), for digital and disc distribution.
The involvement of T.O. Entertainment in particular has perplexed many, although it is at least a step up from the involvement of Hollywood…

Will I get a Grunt plushie if I watch it?
I want a Legion plastic kit.
A Tali nendoroid figure me please!
I'd settle for a Subject Zero ona-hole.
Or as I like to think of it, a "Box in the Jack."
Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week...
I'd like some Geth action figures and Normandy and Sovereign model kits.
Shinryaku! Reaper Musume.
Thane wallscroll for the fangirls please
Don't forget about "Yes we can!" book, by Shepard.
Samara Oppai Mousepad should sell.
Miranda, well, perhaps not Oppai, but it would sell as well.
Legion oppai mousepad.
Hi, I am commander Shepard, and this is my favourite anime on the citadel.

@Chivral who's your avatar?
grunt plushie sounds too cute :)
You can get a Wrex plushie, as I would assume it will only cover the scope of Mass Effect 1. Unless they're going to butcher the storyline while they're at it.
A biotic god thought of a Mass Effect anime and it happened like a great biotic... wind.
I'm feeling... tired. I'll watch the anime tomorrow...
Oh hey, from the guys that animated Baka to Test?
This might not be so bad.
Baka to Test's animation production was actually done by SILVER LINK. As far as I can see there is no mention of them here so saying 'from the creators' is rather misleading when most people consider the animation production studio to be the core of a shows creation.
well, unlike the dreadfully bad impressions i carried away from wolverine and iron man, the x-men anime looks potent... so maybe the time is right for a mass effect anime as well
the fact that its in the hands of ppl specialising in arbitrary pervesions is worrying tho...
Mass Effect takes in space, right? Imagine the ero-possibilities. :P
Like a space harem. Topless alien chicks and their oppai floating in a zero-g environment. The opening scene could be the sight of shimapan floating across the room right in the hero's face.
It will be like Tench Muyo, except more ecchi.
Salivating: Not to mention all the hot Elcor montage action.
(Because otherwise the foreplay would take about a month)
if you choose to romance Miranda and talk to Mordin he will give edy a guide or something on inventive uses of biotic fields for you to look at
Because there's NOTHING perverted that goes on in Mass Effect at all. :/
Nope, a bastion of purity and righteousness. mYEEEP.

anime is cheap?!?
i accept the fact that the quality in anime has decreased from that of the 90's but....
dude, pretty much all western cartoons are made either in flash or in Toon Boom....the cheapest form of animation on earth...
And is animated entirely in countries like corea, vietnam, china, taiwan etc....the cheapest animators on earth, who will work only for food.
Yeah, I once work as animator for an Cartoon Network Animation.
The pay is shit (one animator I know is geting payed $150 a month !, 10 hour works a day, no overtime, healtcare, and no goddamed internet in office)
and the producer still say the cost is to high, and after a year He transfer entire project to China, where the pay of each animator is half than here (even with degradation of quality).
what a dick
What I still don't get, even as a 3D animator, is how that is still possible. I just bought an entire season of Burn Notice, on Bluray, for 20 bucks. It would have been 40 if it weren't for Amazon, and it wasn't even a sale.
Those productions have multiple actors who are paid a lot, tons of extras paid by the hour in the hundreds sometimes, followed by paychecks for every crew member, as well as fees for licensing use, permits, and any number of things that even more paper pushers have to be paid to take care of.
I understand the concept of other productions fronting the cost for these, which will in turn front the cost for others, but these make good profits.
How is animation so god damn expensive? And why is videogames any better but I get paid a great wage. It really is mind boggling to me, because it makes no sense.
Which is also ironic seeing how advertising should be more effective in spending ads towards children programmings which are dominant with cartoons.
Its cheap yet it looks much better .
And writing is superior when i have to compare it with cartoons.
Lol yeah then just stop watching ecchi comedies you stupid dick and start watching anime for smart people then you see why anime is superior to your lame stupid cartoons .
Writing, superior?
Anime has one of the worse writing in any entertainment media. It relies HEAVILY on clichés, spouts almost exactly the same crap every single time, and it's so bad sometimes it's embarrassing to watch.
Some cartoons are golden when it comes down to comedy- they're more than a simple guy falling over a tsundere, grabbing her right breast and said tsun-tsun blushing while slapping him and calling him a "pervert".
How about a female shepard, mine was! Made her look as much as Erza Scarlet (fairy tail) as possible.
you only stated the obvious of ecchi anime. watch other anime please.
I really really want to see commander shepard being a jerk with these damn PVC - tsundere - flatchested - maid - moeblob japanese pop culture characters . . .
Manga/anime industry need more MALE chars like this guy :

. . .
What a Jerk !!!!
Which is even more hilarious, considering such "cheap" animations are still smoother than any anime that isn't a teather film.
Cartoons trade off fluidity for unrealistic motion and grossly simplified or heavily abstracted character designs, so that shouldn't come as a surprise.
I'll take the much more lifelike feel of anime over 24fps animation any day.
While we're at the topic of batman, take a look at this [http://www.warnervideo.com/batmangothamknight/] for an example what it'd look like with mostly Japanese animation production choices and style (look at the video section which has footage more representative of the actual animation quality). There's evidently more detail and less framerate, even though it's OVA and produced by Warner Brothers. I don't think the year of production is an issue here. You decide which looks more appealing.
So here we have a high-budget US produced, Japan-animated cartoon. It's still just simple flat lit-side-unlit-side two-tone shading, and the movements are still somewhat stylized. I could now start posting examples of action scenes from purely Japan produced high-budget TV anime with similar quality. Your point is?
No one disputes anime in general has much lower average budgets than high-profile super hero cartoons. That doesn't invalidate my statement that Japanese productions always allocate more budget for character and background detail instead of framerate, and hence feel more lifelike.
Yeah, the frame rate's not because of the art style, genius. Remember when we used to hire Japan to animate Batman, Gargoyles, and other shows? They made our "simple" designs plenty detailed and it never hampered the movement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERmAiXrsR1I
In fact a lot of the movement, effects, expressions, and shading let their anime style slip through and your enlightened ass probably never noticed. Even while it stared you in the face for years. The only difference is we're the ones with the budget to make them move non-stop.
Yes knock on panty and stocking, the most american cartoonish anime on the planet.
Anime isn't exactly "lifelike", considering the laughable proportions of its characters, alongside other issues they usually have.
Hell, even with simplified designs, such as seen in Panty and Stocking, the framerate of such animations was still low from time to time- the only smooth parts were those when the 3D kicked in.
In general, the only actually wrong proportions in anime relate to the eyes. And even in that regard there are more than enough exceptions. Even in shows that have lots of moe there are characters where that particular quirk is averted.
We all know why the eyes of certain characters in anime are big, I won't have to explain that, do I? Same for unnatural hair colors or comically oversized breasts. Despite that, and because of the rest of the character designs are actually VERY lifelike (yes, that includes the body proportions, also the emphasis on natural curves - ever noticed how western designs always look extremely inorganic and edged?), it feels much less abstracted than anything I've ever seen in a western cartoon.
I've chosen the word lifelike (as opposed to realistic) because that's exactly what it is. From the reflection in the eyes to the creases in clothes, the backgrounds and their interaction with the characters (shadows, lighting etc.), it all feels believable. That's the lifelike feel I've been talking about.
I was responding to the anonymous clown at 11:53. I wish this forum didn't shuffle the order of replies. Though you are right, once you get to the Ninja Scroll guy's level of detail, it actually does hamper the animation rate. Which is why 99% of anime doesn't go there, yet for some reason our side insists on hiring him to make an anime version of everything. Like having 6 sets of art styles, character designs, and directors, even when we go to cheaper animators we still like to burn resources and make a mess. I wonder just how much of a budget Gotham Knight actually had, anyway. If it's in the $3.5 million range of other DC animated movies, even with the production clusterfuck, I'd be shocked.
It's smoother because it's flash
Flash is cheap
∴ smoother is cheap
