This is not the kind of anime to get popular with otaku. It's aimed at a broader audience aka normals.

If I'm not mistaken, you have it backwards... the ones that get truly popular are the ones that are popular amongst the non-otaku as well. And don't call people who may not bury their lives in anime 'normals,' that's just stupid. It's things like that that makes otaku draw the term 'outcast' to them. Then act high and mighty about it in the face of them looking like fools half the time and never getting the lives they want.

I just feel Hanasaku has a stronger story.
Too bad I dropped Hanasaku for the time being to follow Steins;Gate which is considerably more interesting.
If you haven't guess it yet, I don't like slice of life anime.
And who cares if I pick on K-On? It's fanbase rants it up to be one of the best things ever. And while it might be to them, it's not to me.
No offense but that's kinda ironic coming from someone who has a Freezing avatar. Freezing isn't as popular as K-ON! and it focuses more on ecchi and fanservice than the plot. I love that anime though.
Yeah, I know I had a Freezing icon which is a series of gore and boobs. I could almost say the same thing about God of War (which is quite a badass game).
But you can't judge Freezing and K-On!. They're both two different series with different merits. I went in to Freezing expecting fanservice and boobs and I got that. I went into K-On! thinking it would have more plot advancement. And while K-On! has a plotline, it feels like each episode is the same as the last one.
The same thing can be said about Freezing, but Freezing is a bit more entertaining and a lot less dull. And I obviously watch Freezing for the "plot"
