I always thought that Hiromu Arakawa was female, though I wasn't 100% sure with Hoshino since I couldn't find any info on the internet to confirm it. If they were judging by art style I would say Hoshino was female due to the high amount of bishonen though male due to it being a shonen manga.

Well, one writes Yaoi in the side, so if you know that, it's not that surprising. The other one writes fringe lolicon manga, so it's more understandable at first to believe her to be a man than otherwise. It all comes down to the drawing style though, since it always makes you suspicious.
