How is Madoka first and Homura not even on the list?
I could say that about a quarter of the list.
1. Madoka Kaname (Madoka) - No. Give us Homura, or move Mami further up the list.
2. Index (To Aru Majutsu no Index) - No. Give us Mikoto, Kanzaki or Itsuwa.
5. Houki Shinonono (Infinite Stratos) - Swap places with Charlotte and then replace Houki with German whose name I've forgotten.
Laura Bodewig if I'm not mistaken.
Although I can see the Houki and Charlotte ones, they really were the most appealing of the heroines of that show.
Laura was a bit of a Tsukhime from Sekirei (just without the rack) rip off, Laura was a Perinne wannabe. And Rin just was rather flat and annoying.
The entire show was a wasted opportunity for something better. Only one saving the show was charlotte finally calling the guy a moron, even if it was off handed.
She may be a classic trope, but she worked it well.
The others? Not so much.
Of the 5, only Charlotte and Houki were really interesting with regards to their motivation.
Others? Two personality rip-offs from other shows, and one who was just flat and didn't bring anything else to the table, beyond childhood friend also, and a misinterpreted promise.
Even the genius-ditz sister who only appeared in like what... 2 episodes? Had more of a personality and motivation than Rin.
Wasted opportunity really.
Hoki was your average stock childhood friend character.
I would much prefer Homura between the 2.
Just going for this season though, Victorika, though Merry a close second. The response they would give would be the best. Of all time, I would consider Kazami Mizuho (Onegai Teacher).

Mami will probably get a head of herself ( I got nothing) and go five days ahead.

I may not know exactly what the qualifications for a good Ohanami candidate are, but I for one am happy that Merry is on one of these list.
All I need to say is that she is awesome. Fiesty and headstrong with a careing side, and just a sprinkle of Tsundere for a little bite. She is an excellent character.
