A couple is facing murder charges for dumping a 3-year-old in a garbage bag to punish the infant for putting their console in a bin.
3-year-old Shizuku lived with his 26-year-old mother and his mother’s 20-year-old boyfriend at their Osaka apartment, the couple having recently met in February using an online dating site.
The mother explains that her son’s death was an accident:
“He put our precious game console in the bin, so to discipline him I wanted to make him understand if he did that I’d throw him away, by putting him in a garbage bag.”
Shizuku managed to get out of the bag, and his mother’s boyfriend helpfully offered to shove him back in it, using tape to to tie him up and prevent his escape.
This time the infant did not survive, suffocating in the bag.
The mother summoned an ambulance after having left the child in the bag in another room for 20 minutes, having realised he had stopped crying.
A legally-required autopsy soon uncovered the cause of death, and police arrested the couple soon after. Both are facing murder charges.
The mother was also found to have made various unkind comments about her child online, saying such things as “If he fell off the veranda he’d die, wouldn’t he? If he died I don’t think I’d cry.”

I'm guessing, based on her attitude toward him that the kid was the result of an Unwanted Pregnancy and the father ether skipped town or she doesn't know who it is (Because she is a whore). Probably also saw him as a Burden that she would be glad to be rid of.

My first child was a stillborn. It sickens me that "parents" like this just throw their children away. I mean, there are options like adoption.
I'm curious to know how such things are in Japan. Its entire culture is oriented around family and blood ties, it seems, while America is much more lax on such things being so insurmountable. In fact most people seem like they can't wait to be rid of their parents.
So I do wonder how adoption is considered over there. One other thing sadly is OUR foster system is tantamount to forming juvenile delinquents unless they're exceedingly lucky. I have a couple friends who have taken in foster children and considered adopting, but in each case the children just have too many problems, and they don't want to wreck their family to deal with them. But in every case it's better than what these idiots did...
foster homes are in deed a hell hole, but lets also take into consideration what kind of a society that japan REALLY has.
yes they are more family bound than america, but thats also considering they are the happy model home that you think of.
lets go if the kid happens to be an under achiever, and i don't mean failure, just not any better than the parents were.
or lets also go to another one, where a kid becomes socially withdrawn, parents put up with that crap because of society, and wanting to keep up appearances.
or lets also look at one where the kid decides to put pressure on themselves to the point they snap.
all in all, i think that the japanese being at home thing is more about appearances that it is about them actually caring. kind of like how the victorian era had manors not because they wanted them, but because it was to keep up appearances.
i think that on a whole american familys have it better off just because they are more honest with each other.
To be frank though, adoption issues are pretty damn overblown I find. You will find plenty of in-family strife (I know a ton about it from personal experience) from blood relatives. Also, the reports of adopted children having major problems is too overblown statistically I believe. While it probably isn't a given that you'll receive the love and care of a biological parent from the get-go, stories like this is PROOF that sometimes that bloodline means nothing to some people.
In Japanese (and in fact, most Eastern Asian nations), the reason why adoptions are looked down upon is that there's so much at stake for blood lineage. The entire idea of families hinged deeply on that and that stigma of adoptions were out there for a lot of people. But after several tragedies like Kobe earthquake of 95 and other natural disasters that resulted in orphans, people gradually opened up to the idea of orphans.
And I don't think it's any coincidence that you find a lot of orphan characters in anime since late 90's who are there for some dramatic effect but not to the point where they're complete outcasts.
On the other hand, that in many old drama shows during and before the 80's, the general cultural bias is pretty evident where it was almost a given for the orphan characters to be the trouble maker, the criminals, the problem element of family. Not all shows were like that obviously, but in token, dumb soaps, they always had that element and almost reveled in the 'problem' of orphans and at worst times, even their suffering.
That said, I don't think Japan is quite as open as a society towards interracial adoptions the way America and many Western nations are though. That's another can of worms.
But I don't think it's nearly as bad today as it might have been in decades past. Naturally, there's tensions and growing process with adoptions. But then again, sometimes biological parents just doesn't give a damn. That's nothing new either.

I would have happily raised that kid as my own as would many others. I think people put too much value in the "miracle of life" thing. If we really wanted to minimize the loss of potential life we should try to keep all women constantly pregnant. That would probably make our planet collapse under the collective weight of us humans, so having the opportunity to prevent unwanted births isn't really that much worse than wanking and wasting your sperm every day. Not to mention that if all children were actually wanted, the world would also probably be a better place to live in.
