The 2 best of corkscrew characters aren't in as far as I see. Maria sama ga miteru owns one, the other, #1 in general, is from Sasameki koto
touko from marimite is really awesome, but apparently they only want to list blonde characters.

I'm still not a fan of the whole drill-hair fad. I much preferred when all the ojou-sama's had the standard hime-cut. The drill hair just looks ridiculous and it's not even as expressive as other ahoge.

The corkscrew has been in anime since at least 1985.
Someone may have drawn drill hair by 1985, but it certainly didn't have the meaning it does today. Drill hair has replaced hime cut to a large extent in anime/manga and that's only been for the last 10 years if that. Like it or not, drill hair has only exploded recently as a very prominent hairstyle, and especially associated with a particular subset of character.
