Technically there is only one winner and a number of nominees, but as they are scored individually the obligatory top 10 is formed:

Only march comes in like a lion i know is a film from 1991 and it's about amnesiac incest, not shogi.

Thus far the only manga I've recommended is Shiki.
I'd recommend "Coppelion" - In 2016 a meltdown of a nuclear power plant creates a big catastrophe in Tokyo. 20 years later, the city has become a ghost town due to the high levels of radiation. From that area a distress signal is received, the Self-Defense Forces dispatch 3 girls from the special unit Coppelion to search for survivors. But why aren't they wearing any protection against radiation?

Not very likely. Especially since the science behind it is really, really shaky and from what I've read of it translated, it might be warming up to suggest that the Americans were dumping waste in the zone of alienation.
It's an interesting comic in terms of characters, but the 'science' in Coppelion makes my head hurt. If you're going to use some science to make the comic seem plausible, you need to try to get the rest of it right, otherwise it comes off as fear mongering.
I've recommended several dozen manga to my brother. I don't have any friends who really read manga though so its kinda hard to recommend them stuff.
I recommend anything besides those list presented :P

1 - 3, 7, 10 Are all the manga I favor, never read the other though (eng not available).. But I guess I can trust this list.

March Comes in Like A Lion is a must read for the seinen readers. It illustrates the lost feelings of our generation... apathy, lost, directions, society, bittersweet, touching, mortification, etc... Umino Chika is great at capturing the fears and uncertainties that plague our generation.
And I am also happy to see some of my favourite authors, Yamashita Tomoko, Mizushiro Setona and Mori Kaoru.
I wonder how many of SanCom's readers read manga like those listed here though... Most of the people here are into moe, shounen, hentai... I think that is it. Things without cute, action or sex doesn't seem to appeal to the English diaspora.
well i'm into all of those genre you said before. But "March Comes in Like A Lion" is one of the storyline i ever read.
I'm into shounen, a bit of moe doesn't hurt either... but I read March Comes in Like a Lion, getting new volumes as soon as it hits Toranoana.
Great story, great characters, great art. That's enough reason to get it.
Bride's Story is simply stunning. Great attention on detail and background, Rarely used time and place settings, it really recommended.
And Drifters... This is Kouta hirano's work, no words needed.Simply Badass.

You should definitely look into Sangatsu no Lion (which won) then at least, its actually pretty damn good.
Plus you learn a little about shougi in the process aswell
