What a legion of detractors could not accomplish, an earthquake and a flooded reactor have in a stroke – most upcoming broadcasts of Madoka have been cancelled.
No particular reason has been offered other than “self-restraint,” and it is not clear whether it will take the form of a simple postponement (this seems to be the prevailing notion) or the skipping of at least the 11th episode (one broadcaster apparently plans to do just this).
The manga and possibly the disc releases have also been subject to various postponements.
The decision to cancel the broadcasts has come in for more than a little criticism, particularly from fans who were counting on the series to lift their spirits after the incessant deluge of earthquake and reactor related news, and even more so from those in areas of the country completely unaffected by the quake or the power shortage.
The prevailing notion amongst publishers now appears to be that anything popular or fun must be cancelled, whether or not it has anything to do with the quake…

I guess Yoshii-kun read what was in the actual announcement, not the failed translation of it.
This is sad. But doesn't surprise me, given that destroyed city in the last Madoka episode, quite frankly, looked like it had been hit by a natural disaster.

I agree with this; I remember while back when Adult Swim showed Cowboy Bebop on its first run, it skipped three episodes because of recent events (9/11 and Columbia explosion); eventually they were aired on television a year later.
Though I have a feeling they will not show the episodes on TV now, I'm sure the series will be release on DVD/Blu-Ray; heck, some TV series now show only the last couple of episodes this way now... it sucks because we have to wait.
I'm thinking it's something along these lines as well. It's fiction and all, but I still understand their decision. A lot of people are without power (and thus, TV) right now. In addition to being sensitive to the matter, they probably want those people to be able to watch as well. They've got a potential best seller on their hands, better to close at a time when people can be encouraged to purchase the series.

The combined efforts of the earthquake and QB RAPING MINDS was probably too much for the broadcasters. Thankfully, they now get a few more days/weeks/months to redo the next episode to make our brains melt.
Awww, I was hoping we'd get an episode on the actual Walpurgis Night! (March 31st)
In any case I hope it does come back. Even if it doesn't, we'll see the episodes eventually, even if they only go straight to DVD. Frustrating when there's such suspense right now, though.

They are being delayed, just like MANY more. It's not just Madoka, as this post would lead you to believe.
Wtf?? seriously... they might as well just cancel the whole Anime airing in this season and next season -_-;; what's the point of doing this?? and I'm curious, what about other programs such as dramas, shows etc, other than Anime...
Well, who is now supposed to pay for the timeslots for advertisements? Morning Rescue? I guess they actually failed at rescuing anyone recently.
The Japanese won't buy any crap right now, so there is no point in advertising anything like that anyway. The TV stations won't get funds from ads and neither will anime producers, so it's only natural to postpone anything worth watching until Japanese get at least partly on track and have some will and funds to buy anything.

Sankaku, you disappoint me. Madoka was JUST announced as to not be aired on the main channels. But you did not say "Kōji Yamamoto, Fuji TV's producer for its late-night Noitamina timeslot, reported on Twitter that Noitamina will still run its programming on Thursday as of the current schedule." Google that.
Also, there are multiple shows being delayed and canceled. Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?, GOSICK and Pocket Monsters: Best Wishes! episodes and even the Oreno DVDs and Blu-Rays (among many others) are being delayed.
