That's what I hate about controversy, Its not like it was created after the tsunami and it might have been planned before the incident and thats why its unfair for them to start hating on it. Just leave it alone T-T

I was just thinking about the British and The Simpsons.

There's an episde where Bumblebee Man takes over Kent Brockman's newsreader position because of some trivial matter and mentions a tsunami in Kuala Lumpur.

It gets removed from syndicated re-runs.

It's basically like the British try to sweep it under the rug and try to pretend like it never happened.

Its the same thing with 9-11, that ep with Homer Simpson trying to use the bathroom in one of the twin towers while they are there. After that incident...its gone from syndication

Well considering the circumstances, I dont see how one can rant about anime broadcast being cancelled and tsunami map over anime, etc. I mean, fuck, it'S probably one of the worst state of crisis for Japan since the end of WWII.

Then again if we'speaking about hardcore otaku, who knows what is happening in their head.

Airing an episode with similarities to recent events is one thing, but doing so with a reminder of said events in the corner...

I know they remove episodes if someone's murdered with an ax and such if there's similarities to a recent real world event, but it does bring up the fact that a tsunami is a natural disaster. It has no villainy to it and doesn't attack anyone personally. So even if lives are lost in such an event, really I don't see this being accidental bad taste at all. It may make some people uncomfortable if they have lost loved ones, definitely. But it's not like anyone can say "Children will see this and think tsunami are fun and trivial" or something ridiculous like that. In a strange way, seeing characters live through a tsunami may be a psychological benefit.

Although I don't mind broadcasts of similar events, I don't see where your logic is coming from.

The reason why people don't air episodes with similar contents is out of respect for those who have witnessed the said event, because it could trigger traumatic feelings. In what way is this different from something that is under control by people?

And if anyone wasn't clear, there wasn't a tsunami in the episode. It was a moment when the boys were picturing what the cosplay princess was telling them about a "ruler of destruction".

I'm sorry, but I think they could have at least stopped the broadcast for a week or something. It's not about whether it's right or wrong or need to be banned, but the timing is just wrong.

Like how they delayed the release of Metal Gear Solid 2 during the 9/11 attacks' aftermath.

I just don't feel 'right' in watching anime poke fun about tsunami like that right when something real is happening. Give me a week or two and it would be perfectly fine.

Even for broadcasts, I wonder how they aren't accounting for potentially millions of customers without power or brownouts?

    10:05 13/03/2011 # ! Good (+0.6)

I'm not saying things should be banned or it's morally wrong. I just think it's a sensitive time plus all the potential customers in the viewing audience aren't there since there's millions in brown/black outs. There's a whole bevy of issues economy-wise there too.

Just delaying them a little bit isn't really making some statement that censorship is right or anything. And sorry, Houselife, but I can't take any joke about catastrophes as something funny. Especially since currently going, I've lived through too many of them. And my heart is breaking for my distant relatives my family has in many of those regions and even if something like their property being damaged, it just sucks to hear the kind of trials and tribulations they've gone through. That's kind of why I won't be against some kind of delay. I'd rather see people try to recover a bit, maybe get those blackouts in order and be eased into living again.

I agree, however in reality, is it any better two weeks from now when we see the death tole hit over 1000 and people have realization of what level of destruction has hit them? No, no matter what it'll rub certain people the wrong way based on their circumstances.

If they are offended because they don't understand that time continues moving forward, and this was created long before this happened and isn't an intentional cosmic joke, then that is their own issue in believing the world's out to get them. It's an understandable reaction if they have devastation in their lives, but in the end, those people are locked in their own minds right now, dealing with tragedy. They lack perspective in that state, and that shouldn't cause problems for everyone else because they saw a show. From what I observe, it wasn't even a big part of the show, but a passing gag unrelated to anything else. I could be wrong on that point, however.

Either way, people who live through and must deal with tragedy will always have my sympathy and support, but they will not get special treatment from me when they start blaming things and seeking illogical vengeance against their circumstances such as complaining about an animated tsunami joke after a tragic event. I am one of the people after 9/11 who saw the photoshop of Godzilla attacking the burning world trade center and laughed my ass off. Why? Because it was funny.

Agreed, Shippoyasha, but again, a TV broadcast will do nothing for or against them in that situation. It's not out of disrespect that it was shown, so by that logic, it's not disrespectful to show either. It's merely what it was, no more, no less.

Of course it doesn't matter, because being offended is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure there are some over there who have/will take offense to it being shown and there'll be some kind of apology.

    Comment by Anonymous

Well gee, if it offends you, turn off the god damn television. There is no fucking reason to ruin it for others just because you don't like it, for whatever reason that may be. However, it is apparently easier to bitch and moan and get stuff banned and/or censored than it is to just ignore stuff that doesn't suit your tastes.

The most recent episode has not been aired anywhere in the world, not even Japan. It was originally postponed due to massive earthquakes in the area and since it features Whiscash making Earthquakes it would have been bad taste. However this episode was scheduled for a further Japanese showing but didn't air. Now it has come to the US Airing and it again has been skipped"

Whether it'd be pulled or not is not necessarily what I was talking about, just whether this could be considered bad taste. Chances are they're working on much more important things than people being offended right now. And if they tried to do something stupid like pull programming in case of offense now, people would lose money and fiscal issues they don't need would arise.

But then, I always overestimate humanity's ability not to let things slide in favor of a good laugh. I anticipate there'll be a backlash article in a day or so because of people who want to blame something.

Pokemon I can sort of understand pulling an episode if kids could be nervous about an earthquake in their area. But it's still a weak-minded thing to do.
