Hatsune Miku fans are disgusted with Miku’s latest live concert, bitterly complaining of brazen exploitation unworthy of the virtual diva’s formerly glorious live legacy.
The complaints centre on the lacklustre showing in the recent “Hatsune Miku Live Party 2011 – 39’s Live in Tokyo” – Miku fans air their grievances:
“Somebody nobody’s heard of sung for the first 30 minutes. The display wasn’t transparent, just a normal TV. Miku left after 30 minutes, keeping us waiting for another 30…”
“Miku and Rin’s hearts weren’t in it at all. It was like they were just dubbing a song over a video. Last year was so good. What happened?”
“A 30 minute break – are they making fun of us?”
“What is this shit?”
“I appreciate a transparent screen costs money. Maybe it was an unavoidable compromise.
But why the half hour intermission? This is just character exploitation.”
“What is up with having some nobody on for 30 minutes? They just exploiting the chance for some exposure?”
“What’s the problem, exactly?”
“Miku Party last year: transparent screen, Sega’s game staff really gave it their all and it was a sensation.
Then they released the recording on BD/DVD, but Sega put no effort into it and fans were annoyed. Sega dropped involvement.
This year, it was handled by 5pb.
They had no transparent screen. The modelling was worse than last year. The camera work was bad, and in a 1 hour performance they had a 30 minute intermission of looping commercials. They squandered all the effort Sega put in last year.
The fans are enraged < we are here.”
“I see, they expected Sega quality and got some shoddy 5pb crap instead. Nice work exploiting those idiots.”
“Did all that tech belong to Sega then?”
“It seems if Sega isn’t handling it, it’s no good.”
“What 5pb did this year:
They raised the price.
Somebody nobody cares about sung for the first 30 minutes.
The transparent screen disappeared.
The camera work was no good.
They aired endless commercials during a 30 minute intermission.”
“A Sega employee tweeted this last Saturday:
‘There’s no love. If there’s no love it’s no good. If you’re not moved yourself, you can’t hope to move other people.
We’re not just making CG. I think we’re trying to put soul into CG, that’s what makes it moving. It doesn’t seem many of the people concerned appreciate this.’
This was probably a message to 5pb. Sega have my sympathies.”
“I want to cry.”
The event last year, which spawned a media sensation:
Footage of the most recent event (watched by 160,000 people on NicoNico Douga) is not yet easy to come by as online viewing was pay-per-view only and 5pb likely fancies it can hawk the recording on disc – shots of the rehearsals are however available:

I'm neither a concert goer and nor a Miku fan, but I'm sure I'd be pissed if I'd go on a concert and they'd pull that off.
"and in a 1 hour performance they had a 30 minute intermission of looping commercials."
One hour performance only, 30 minutes of commercials and 30 minutes of "some nobody on for 30 minutes", did I get that right? 50% of the concert was not even the concert?
Wait, it's not "nobody" it's one of the famous producer, BuzzG, the singer is Mai Aizawa, a seiyuu
Kinda sad not many vocaloid fan know about them, sure, not as famous as Livetune, Deco*27, or Supercell, but they still creat some of the finest song and some of their song is included in compilation album with other famous producer
"The camera work was no good."
Camera keeps changing every 1-3sec = headache
Yep, I noticed that too. I think they were trying to keep everyone from noticing the sub-par production values.
I'm imagining a super fast miku slideshow now.
You got it wrong. The person sang for some lenght of time (it wasn't 30 minutes, though, I think... she sang two songs and then ievan polkka rolled in). Then there was ~1 hour of Vocaloid music, then 30 mins break and another 1 hour.
The actual concert lenght was the same as last year. It's just that the break was 20 minutes longer and twice as boring.
If it's not a real band or a singer, it's not a concert full stop.
True, the people playing the instruments were in fact just pieces of software represented by holographic images that looked like they did on the box they came with.
back to ya cave
This is blasphemy...
This is madness!
THIS IS MIKUPA-RTA!!!
This is sad...too sad... OTL
Not sad at all!
Sega is showing that they're still a quality company. XD
Always a silver lining. At least Sega is doing really good with their K-On license. Can't wait for K-On Houkago Live PSP2 with their amazing character dancing programs!
miku-tards
he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he
this is obviously SPARTA
This is madness...
This is Epic Fail.
OTL
This is pathetic
I can already see the headlines: "5pb employees killed by Vocaloid fans"
well, their website has already been down since the end of the concert...
thats what they get for screwing miku >=(
Well at least they got to screw Miku as you say, "for screwing miku >=(".
i was watching the concert via nico.
it wasnt all that bad.
okay, screen wasn't clear, yes.
30 minute break and looping CMs yes. however the whole show was one hour in itself and 30 mins break so 1 and a half hours. during that time my #mikupa on twitter was exploding.
camera angle was okay. didn't seem so bad.
can't say anything bout the price cause this was my first nico ticket bought and it was well worth it, hell i even bought premium to watch it @ faster and higher quality.
some songs were from that last '39 concert and others were much shorter than the others.
sure there were flawed areas that i could find in comparison, but saying that the concert was pathetic is overdoing it.
30 mins break for a 1.5 hour show? I would say that's overdoing it.
That seems to be the biggest insult. If it weren't for the 30 minute intermission thing where they basically tried to market to people, as the quotes imply, then it probably would have just been considered 'not as good.' The Miku model complaint I can see being more preferrential. The lighting was more cartoony, which doesn't give the holographic feel the original concert seemed to give. Potentially related to the non-transparent screen.
It was an experience the first time I think. People didn't feel it again and they want to blame someone. It was new last year, it's not new now, they didn't do anything more special to MAKE it more special than the first holographic live concert.
Oh well.

i don't think its an experience that went away, i mean look at a movie theater. unless you own one yourself, go to it every other day, or go to a really shitty one, nothing breaks the experience of going to it.
even if you went to the original, watched the recording every day, it wouldn't break the experience of seeing it a new one. GRANTED, you wouldn't let as many flaws slide as you did the first time.
now i have to say something was wrong, it was the non transparent screen and the cg lighting.
the first one felt like she was there. this one felt like you just payed to watch a movie of a game character sining.
and a 30 minute commercial... if you PAY to watch something, commercials should be FUCKING GONE, a theater only plays trailers before a movie starts, to keep people from getting really fucking board. and so people who are a minute or so late can get in. a movie doesn't stop half way through, break immersion, and than run 30 minutes of commercials.
yeah i see where ur going with it, i personally didnt think they needed a break like that just for a 1 hour concert.
but paying 2.5k yen at the end of the day is fine for me.
i think of it as a movie where the original was awesome and the sequel was not as good.
@alidan,yea,seriously...30mins?!
How can you say not bad? She looks so wooden in their animating for one.. didn't even look or feel real I seen amateurs do a better job. Secondly the sound is awful same song sounds horrid that sounded awesome by Sega. They put no money into the concert at all they just saw a way to make money and destroy Miku in the process.
.... y el 3D????
Where is 3D??
The consequences of a fail like this.....will be harsh.
I hope not, I'm still waiting for robotics;notes.
if rather prefer they don't held this concert instead of spoiling miku's concert
dammit.....
All those dumb journalists who thought Miku was a hologram will now be very confused.
Nishishishi!
That is all.
/off-topic
wait what :D
You don't say...
Anyways, I really hoped to go to that concert, but because of short funds I couldn't make it.
The TV issue was like a slap to every miku fan as I see it.
And a 30 min break...I really wonder why!?
Sure the guys playing the music could use a break, but 30 minutes? That's overdoing it!
TBH, last year's performance was AMAZING! This year... not so great. It's like watching IdolMaster...
Lower. It's more like watching an MMD minus the fancy camera shots.
I viewed some clips on YouTube, and last year's show does look rather impressive. It has much higher production values than I would have expected from something like this. I saw some clips from this year's show as well, and while it seems alright, it just doesn't have the organic feel that the prior show had. In the first show, the quality of the lighting, motion capture and overall animation made them look like living 2.5D characters on-stage, while the new show doesn't establish that effect nearly as well. The substitution of the wide transparent screen with a black box didn't really help either.
Last year's show likely exceeded everyone's expectations, while this year's seems to have fallen short of them in many ways. They really should put the people from last year back in charge of it, rather than some third-rate game developer.
Oh, and who decided to put knee socks on Kagamine Len? :P
What performance? Watching a computer?
I didn't understand the hype with Miku, until you compare last year and this year performance. Its night and day.
Really! That's just a screen..I would prefered stay on my house and the last year concert via streamming on YT...
OMG it's ruining Miku image ...
When there's no love involved .. this is the total disaster result
>"This is just character exploitation.”
they never noticed that before?
they just liked it before
before it was a good exploitation
not every single thing is exploitation. People want things, other people deliver the things. For free? No, for money of course.
No wonder they are raging, look at that shit.
The CGI in the audition video looks dismal. One of the reasons I liked the first one was that it was done so well, the songs, the animation, everything.
Did they run out of money?
maybe 5pb want to try it out to make it.
anyway the descent of visual quality really shock me.
the previous one was hosted by SEGA, this year 5pb did it.
sega should be the ones to only host it then i guess. there work never let me down b4 personally
ah i saw the last one some time before, but there were more fans xD.. .. truly the first one looks much better o_o
Of course it looks much better.... Sega devoted themselves to make that concert a huge success i mean every people in the staff worked so hard to make it turn out like it was...
And now these 5pb shitheads... ruined it everything..
They should have made a panty shot in the animation, similar to that of Mio, then it'd be a huge success
