77% of Japanese young adults report having no partner, the highest such figure yet reported.
The results of an annual relationship survey found 77% of Japan’s “new adults” (i.e. 20-year-old Japanese who celebrate their coming-of-age ceremony this year) report having no partner, up from 50% when the survey was first held in 1997.
A writer familiar with such matters explains, for once without blaming anything on anime or games:
“Love is a second or third priority in the recession. It used to be embarrassing if you had no boy or girlfriend. These days boys don’t even try to get a girlfriend even if they are just being used as a woman’s personal chaffeur, they have no greed.”

This is an article that supports my observation; I’m in high school taking mostly university-prep courses in Canada and a lot of the boys in my classes have no girlfriends, including me. The reason why is because there are no good candidates, honestly. Not only that, but everyone is busy with trying to get into a good post-secondary university. We males outnumber the females also. And this is my view personally, but females in my school aren’t the ones you want to share your lives with… most of them are just into the casual “fruitless” relationship sorta thing. I only know of a handful of young women in my school who meet my criteria, but guess what? They already have boyfriends… no surprises there. And not to mention I fucked up a great thing with a female friend of mine and I’m not ready for a relationship anyways (no money and time).
Better take 2D lolis away from those poor, ronery nerds or else Japan becomes an extinct wasteland!

I was just expecting that because of 2D > 3D… Then again we all might turn to something like Cyubee and try to borrow time by victimizing other world’s civilization’s little girls because we lost our libido along with our emotions….
