Madoka “Will Be Cancelled!”

Magical puella detractors are becoming rather excited that their efforts to get Madoka canned for being filled with scenes of magical girl abuse may finally pay off.
Japan’s TV censorship watchdog previously received complaints about the content of the anime, and will likely be “deliberating” on the content of the anime.
However, online detractors are taking this as a sign the show will be taken off the air, their enthusiastic hatred buoyed by a mass media article touching upon head-biting complaints:
“It looks like they’re considering taking it off air! Next week we’ll know what they think.”
“Yes, they seem to have received a flood of complaints! So now there’s a chance it’ll be canned.”
“They have received lots of complaints. The situation is quite serious.”
“It’s possible the disc release will be cancelled. Even the manga could be pulled voluntarily by stores.”
“It’s too late. They are already considering its cancellation. It’s that serious.”
“It’s not made up. It’s a real issue now. It’s possible it will be taken off air completely! Of course, I hope it all blows over…”
Sadly for detractors, the BPO is run by the broadcasters and very rarely if ever does anything about the crazy complaints it receives.
It is also not unlikely that most of the “complaints” the organisation received came from the denizens of this same thread…

This is getting annoying lately...
Good shows always wanting to be canned by ignorant people...
That would really suck. This is the best show that's come out for a while.
That people want to take it off the air precisely because of its originality and its dark but good story is depressing.
I'm getting the feeling more and more that a lot of the Japanese just hate anime... Which is an odd twist. I suppose westerny-western movies are often more popular overseas sometimes, but at least we appreciate their value.

Agreed, who Remembers Arith's death in Final Fantasy 7? That event is one of final fantasy 7's staples and probably the most that anyone has ever talked about in the final fantasy series.
just because some characters in a magical girl genre died in a gruesome way doesn't make it bad. hell after hearing about the first death i decided to look into the anime. prior before that, i could've cared less before then.

I don't Recognize Madoka as a mahou shoujo. Sure, the series itself ha been interesting, I just can't call it a Mahou Shoujo. Shaft made it so... "unique" that they basically made a new genre for themselves.
It's not a new genre. Much like Eva was a subversion of the archetypal Mecha anime, Madoka is a subversion of the Mahou Shoujo. Shaft is deliberately undermining the elements of Mahou Shoujo to tell their story. It's why Madoka is so compelling in the first place.
Also to add, like School Days is a subversion of a romance.

as for the pic, why it always mami-chan ? I kinda feel for her being eaten by charlote, change it into QB or something.
It’s tradition for every magical girl to begin as an ordinary girl and be thrust into the role of ‘Magical Girl’ through a chance meeting/event. All magical girls must also have a henshin device, henshin scene and have a mascot character.
Basically, what I’ve described is present in one way or another in practically all Magical Girl shows:
Sailormoon
Cardcaptor Sakura
Pretty Cure
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
This tradition can even be seen and parodied in the Gainax classic Otaku no Video. It’s kind of like Sentai and Kamen Rider where there must be a set number of prerequisites before a show can be deemed Sentai and Kamen Rider.
Thus Madoka is undoubtedly a magical girl show.

anyhoo, bare in mind that "magical girl" animes are generally targeted at kids.... kinda like power-puff girls. the fact that madoka does break some rules, it is in a way redefining a "magical girl" anime.

Horror / mindfuck, it's in the same genre as Evangelion and Higurashi. Eva took apart super robot anime, Higurashi did the same with harem / dating sim. Not that original but I agree that it's the best anime to come out in a long time.

Why do brainless idiots always go for the good animes? This is the type of behavior that got Ishihara what he wanted. Just because it has violence or its too "gory" doesn't mean it should be canned, not when you compare it to that one post SanCom made a while back about that TV show that was talking about vaginas. Why is no one doing anything to that? People get killed in TV or movies and its all good, do it to a character in anime or cartoon and its suddenly "We can't have this shown to our children or the youths of today". These people are morons and hypocrites who do nothing but complain without truly looking at the bigger picture. But then again, these people are the same as yelling to a wall.

its true, mainstream anime has become more perverted but is that any reason to leave it as it is and go home? No, it only shows that no one is willing to do anything about and these people are doing it wrong. If its too gory, then they should act like responsible parents and not complain because the TV isn't educating their kids for them the way they want them to. Anime however has been all about sales even when Tezuka Osamu was doing Astro Boy. Its no different from the 60's compared to now, but that doesn't mean they should just cancel everything that has any sense of expression.
My suggestion, turn off the TV and watch your kids.
It's a very tough line to balance between education and entertainment, if anime has too little 'fan service', and too much educative material, it will turn viewers away. If it has too much 'fan service', and too little educative material, parents will start complaining.
Educative material does not belong in anime, unless you are talking about anime that is MADE to educate.
Just leave our fantasy alone and move on with your life.
