Loli Taxi Riding Finally Possible

Lolicon taxi riders and Ichigo Marshmallow fans are sure to be delighted (or at least mildly bemused) by the announcement that ita-taxi (“Moetaku”) bearing the likenesses of Miu and company are finally gracing the streets of Hamamatsu.
The taxis can be specially reserved or simply hailed down, and riders receive commemorative Barasui-illustrated cards.
For those wondering, the original manga is set in Hamamatsu, explaining the reasoning behind the taxis.
It is apparently hoped the taxis will stimulate tourism in the area, not that there is much to see for anime fans in Hamamatsu.
The selection of a niche title (to put it politely) and the relatively obscure location do not seem to offer much guarantee of popularity, although there are only 3 cabs with the special livery.
On the other hand, plastering Akiba taxis with K-ON! characters seems almost sure bet – presumably now only a matter of time.
Some sympathy has been expressed for the chain-smoking middle-aged men who will be expected to drive them…

It's not really a niche title, as in only for lolicons. It was pretty popular back then and one of the few anime you wouldn't mind rewatching several times.
Mashimaro is a very amusing slice of life title whithout any lewdness.
If somebody who didn't watch it reads this, go watch it now. It's part of anime history.
Yes! I think I've rewatched this series more than any other, though at the risk of being boo'd off this site I'll admit I'm no loli fan.
A couple of the intro themes are borderline creepy, but the show itself is innocent genius with a bullseyed voice cast. Orikasa-san's Miu is probably the highlight of her not too shabby career. Much <3
Sorry to crush your dream, but even K-ON is 'niche' in Japan.
If it isn't One Piece, Bleach or some sports manga/etc then people have never heard of it. Actually when I reflect upon this (drunk in Shinjuku) the Japanese have very little breadth in their interests, often knowing nothing at all about anything outside of mainstream and/or some 'hobby' they've got.
A lolicon acquaintance of mine showed me an episode of this anime and it almost put me to sleep. About as interesting as a bottle of ambien. Definitely not for me.

I am also sure some savvy entrepreneur will get a fleet of taxis soon that are painted as plain brown wrap and targeted for "the discrete traveler" :P

How are the two even remotely similar?
They are both slice of life+comedy, they both have cute and slightly insane characters ... I do see a bit of similarity here.
But K-On! focuses too much on the "cuteness" aspect for my liking instead of the comedy, so I'll have to agree: Ichigo Mashimaro > K-On! :]

Not only lolicons, but also fans of this series should be delighted. You absolutely do not need to be a lolicon to like such shows. Boku really liked Ichigo mashimaro, because I wish I were such an innocent and careless little girl without worries. Istead of that, ore wa stressed programmer with dull grey live without fun and happiness, and there were a few not much nice episodes in my childhood. I am actually replacing my childhood with anime series like this, I have forgotten many good moments from my childhood, and watching anime helps to remember some - of course, also some worries like fear of swimming (I have never be able to overcame fear of putting my head under water, and I suffered because of that...) so I don't particulary like pool episodes, and there are some more. Damn I want to be a careless little loli or at least Nobue onee-chan, drinking beer every evening in her bath, worry only about her cigarettes and stupid part times. Ichigo mashimaro is a really good anime - it is cute and relaxing, TOTEMO!

Ichigo Mashimaro is a slice of life comedy anime... it's not necessarily for lolicons, despite you know, Barasui and all.
Most people won't like it because it's slow paced and all.
Still, very funny.

Hamamatsu is outside of his jurisdiction, in fact it's in a completely different region. There's nothing he can do about it.
