Japanese Earthquake Journalists “Total Scum”

The behaviour of a swarm of Japanese journalists who descended upon the scene of New Zealand’s recent earthquakes has disgusted and outraged the Japanese thanks to its illegal and grossly insensitive character, with journalists breaking into hospitals to interview victims and taking an almost pornographic interest in interviewing a soccer captain who had just lost his leg.
The first incident actually ended in 2 Japanese journalists being arrested for breaking into a hospital in order to interview injured earthquake victims.
After the New Zealand city of Christchurch suffered a devastating earthquake which killed at least 145 people, a pair of Japanese journalists resolved they would secure a scoop by interviewing some of the injured victims – the only problem being they were inconveniently situated in a local hospital undergoing treatment.
The enterprising pair resolved simply to break into the hospital at night, but were subsequently reported by staff and arrested by local police for trespassing.
They were apparently later released without charge; the Japanese embassy expressed “surprise” at their behaviour, saying “it doesn’t seem they understood the meaning of ‘disaster area’ at all.”
The names of the journalists and who they work for have not been reported, strangely enough.
2ch is disgusted by their conduct:
“A national disgrace.”
“Good job NZ police!”
“Publish the name of their company!”
“The Japanese rescue teams were struggling to save people and they were doing this…”
“NZ police, don’t hold back on these people!”
“Just give them a blade so they can commit seppuku.”
“Which disgraceful company was this?”
“Asahi:
‘When we pointed a camera at the ruins, police agitatedly warned us that there might still be people under the rubble and warned us we’d be arrested if we kept at it.’
Japan’s despicable mass media have no common sense whatsoever.”
“This was probably Asahi or Yomiuri – both have been in trouble at the scene of the earthquake.”
“If they are that interested in exposing the truth they should be in Libya…”
“These guys are only interested in Japanese victims, it’s shameful.”
“Wasting police time at a time like this is outrageous.”
“Why is Japan’s mass media such a pack of scumbags?”
The wisdom of keeping Japanese journalists away from the wounded was soon demonstrated.
Fuji TV had its journalists interview a 19-year-old Japanese man who had just had his right leg amputated below the knee after being crushed under a building, taking particular interest in how he felt about the effect of losing his leg on his life as a sportsman, and his interest in soccer:
“How did it feel to hear your right leg had been amputated?”
“Were you prepared to lose your leg?”
“You used to play a lot of sports, but now you can’t, how does it feel?”
The video for those interested:
The tasteless and insensitive nature of these questions aroused even more disgust:
“‘You can’t play sports any more can you?’ – what an idiot the interviewer is.”
“Asking ‘It hurt a lot didn’t it?’ is just…”
“This is insane…”
“Our mass media are total scum.”
“Below the knee? I have a friend like that, he has no trouble playing basket ball.”
“Asahi had him making peace signs from his bed like some toy.”
“What happened to our media? What is the purpose of interviewing people like this?”
“I didn’t think they’d get this bad to be honest.”
“It’s like interviewing someone who just lost their eyes and asking them ‘you can’t read books any more, can you?'”
“I cannot believe they actually did this.”
“Rubbing salt into the wound, as expected of Fuji.”
”TBS actually told rescued students 10 people from their school were still missing and then zoomed in on them as they broke into tears…”
“They are brutes.”

“How did it feel to hear your right leg had been amputated?”
I don't know, the better question is, How will it feel, after I'd amputated your hands, for that question. -.-" I hate questions like these.
“You used to play a lot of sports, but now you can’t, how does it feel?”
At this point, I would have just put down the phone.
How retarded they can be?
yea,those A-holes
I would of told them to fuck off.
I'd tell them to give me a moment as I go ask the nurse for a scolding hot bowl of soup and a lot of black pepper powder.
Id tell them to give me a moment as I ask the nurse for a *large belt-fed machine gun* and a lot of *black powder to blow them all to hell with*
there. I fixed it.
@extrovertedotaku the phone? I would sue him for fierce insulting.
asking that kind of question..
they really do not thinking about the others feeling..
stupid mass media
They do think about their feelings, its just the direction of that thinking is way fucked up. Like a psycho skinning a hooker in the woods: they know it hurts, and thats the whole point.
yea,it'll be hard to reply for many, and i'd just break to tears
its what reporters do
we had some juicy floods and the most common question was how does it feel to suddenly lose your home?
surprisingly enough nobody punched them and those who werent too busy with despair actually answered in detail
i was mindboggled
tv journalists are insensitive cretins the world over cos they need ppl to get emotional so that the brainless majority can gasp while munching chips
asking questions when the answer is so fucken obvious and the journalists know it them selves is fucken stupid.
scoop is all they can think, while breaking privacy and asking such a question is normal for them?
i'm truly speechless with these heartless journalists, Though it's not the first time i heard this kind of pattern.
And while at it, the journalist should get their tongue amputated too so that they won't hurt people with their words anymore.
I mean, seriously....
These media men don't know how to read the atmosphere...
...and that's not how English works.
There was a news event back in my country, Indonesia, when a tax officer was arrested for allegation of corruption. One of the tv channels invited the father of the tax officer into an interview programme and ask him a bunch of question. I have forgotten the exact form of the question, but they went like this:
"Did you know your son was corrupt?"
"How do you feel about this?"
"Do you have anything to say to your son?"
I can imagine the emotion a father could have when he discovered his son was arrested, but to have him interviewed and being asked personal questions so soon was just wrong on so many level.
I basically lost respect to indonesian journalism since that.
Does Indonesia have a really low crime rate if a corrupt tax officer is big news?
for "physical" crimes (i.e murder, assault) : yes.
but for corruption and political bribing : no.
it's like everyday we have news about corruption as our breakfast
gayus's parents deserve it for raising such an idiot son
Meh, Gayus and Journalist. The worst combination ever
Journalists were always scumbags. That's their job.
And how does that make you feeeeeeel?
how does it feeeel, journalist? now that you are incapable of garnering any public respect
It's like Sakura TV in Death Note.
Read my mind
correct me if im wrong, but if someone "interviewed" you like this in america, there are laws protecting you if you beat the living shit out of th person, so long as you don't kill them right?
@23:03
Nope. Freedom of the press means they can print whatever they like - it doesn't absolve them of responsibility for their other actions though.
If someone did something like this to you and you decked them, you'd get off charges on the grounds of provocation or diminished responsibility.
and enjoy your hospital prison.
More like there are laws protecting the journalists from any harm.
Freedom of the Press?
"PLEASE... Tell us how it feels... you may never see your children again!!!"
STFU, journalist!
And do you know what is worst? There is a reason for journalists to be scumbags. Higher the demands= more "products" offered. They only do it so, because that is what brings audience. It explains precisely why all people say it is horrible, but they are the same ones who keep watching it endlessly. And in the ends it is well deserved when idiots get viruses from the latest "photos from the former disaster/accident and their corpses, click here".
Yeah well it was my point exactly. Being a journalist entails being a scumbag - people love to read the latest scoops. Thus seeing them 'suddenly' feeling disgust, denouncing what they've been supporting for years is just plain humorous.
"All good and done in a normal days work."
-Some random journalist.
Paycheck please!
Not all journalists acts this way though. There's exceptional ones and exceptionally bad ones almost anywhere you look. But the bad/exploitative ones are pandemic in many Asian press.
They tend to think that their job is full excuse to be exploitative and voyeuristic in their practices. What worse, the typical pixelization/blur effect and the avoidance of shooting peoples' faces directly seems to be the excuse for them to be fearlessly and unrelentingly brutal with questions otherwise.
Also, Japanese press and media seems to be caught up in the way many variety shows do a lot of 'shocking exposé' style of interviews. Honestly, that kind of 'openness' as they call it sickens me in variety shows, no less in real life media.
It's not just japanese journalists.
True. Worst part is they actually have award for these assholes that do nothing but raising up their ego so they can proudly make speech about how they become successful scumbags for spitting out sensitive questions and ruining people's life with their works.
I hope you hear this, Jigsaw.
"Nothing personal, just business. We're making money off your agony"
Because reality tv sells, also drama *zooms in*
Somehow, Im not to surprised or even shocked.
yea,'cept for the SC Newcomers
Scum: You used to play a lot of sports, but now you can’t, how does it feel?
Victim: Beats me, dude.. but I do sorta feel like wanting to burry my fist to your face and drill that mic of yours into your anus.
ps: You know that you're being a total scum when even 2ch started bashing you despite being also Japanese.
If 2ch was more like 4chan, those journalists would be regretting their deeds.
That's just so wrong. :(
Yet in their twisted minds, so right.
“Were you prepared to lose your leg?”
Who THE HELL gets prepared to lose a leg?
It ain't just the Japanese.
Tabloid journalists like those exist everywhere. Needless to say, they all deserve some time behind bars for their insensitivities.
Especially those who ask about victim's feelings right after their lives just got fucked up. I mean DUHHHH! Would you expect disaster victims to come out and say "Dude, more people should have been killed. Unfortunately, my shitty neighbour is still alive, but at least my whole house went to hell! I always wanted to know how awesome it is to have my entire property destroyed!"
I just recently played Persona 4 again and watched some scenes where the reporter interviewing ask some ridiculous questions, and then I though, there's no way any reporter in real life will ask these kind of questions... and then I read this... Then again, I rarely watched tv so I could be wrong.
I live in NZ and to be completely honest, our own media has acted just as badly. I mean AS the quake was still happening reporters were roaming the streets "dead body spotting" despite grieving family members huddled around them. No respect at all.
I agree (I live in NZ as well). I turned the TV off after watching the news for only a few minutes. Their behaviour was disgusting.
Yeah, I watched for a few minutes to get the feeling of how bad it was, but after that it was just like they were actively trying to find bad stuff to report on. So I walked away.
I feel for you and for all New Zealanders and my heart goes out to you all.
Still, I'm surprised the Japanese news media would act like this.
Brian Williams never does anything as disrespectful as the Japanese did, and normally American media is the worst.
To be fair, that's Brian Williams. He's just a good dude.
But yeah, most American Journalists are just as scummy.
