Atlus: “No Catherine For Foreigners!”

Hardcore puzzle game Catherine may be selling like hot cakes in Japan, but the marketing geniuses at Atlus have still declared the title to be a “Japan-only game,” saying they have “no plans” for a US release.

Atlus USA is fairly emphatic about there being no chance for an international release:

“Catherine is a Japan-only game and there are no plans for a NA release at this time. Sorry about that!”

Just why Atlus bothered developing an Xbox 360 version at all, if not for a US release, is now something of a mystery – in Japan, the PS3 version outsold the 360 version almost 10 to 1, and most buyers would probably have bought it on the PS3 if no port was forthcoming.

Disappointed international fans may be correct in placing this alongside the kind of marketing genius which led to Atlus losing so much money its owners dissolved it

Atlus imports just about everything they make. They're just being cockteases (no pun intended). It'll come over here eventually.

They said no plans at this time, not no plans ever.

Sony and Fromsoftware were the developers, and Sony published in Japan; Atlus was the one who published in the US.

This doesn't surprise me at all. After Atlus stop supporting the Super Robot Wars OG franchise in the US, I've learn not to trust them when it comes to import games anymore.

I wasn't aware they stopped supporting it... why the hell would they do that? What the flying fuck is going on here. Why is my industry so full of retards suddenly? It's not like they won't make the licensing and localization money back for christ's sake. And yes, they will, no question. Especially if it makes the god damn news for being an AO title if that's the case. You gotta be kidding me. Everyone would go after that and find out "Oh... it's nothing bad at all, it's just sensually creepy and there's sex... what the fuck is everyone complaining about?"

except that no company, microsoft, sony, or nintendo will let an ao game be released on their systems, and no store would sell an ao game.

that said, i seriously doubt that it would get ao over here.

People don't want the game, they just want Catherine, so someone in Japan, would properly just make a cut together 720/1080 version of all the cinematic and release it for download, so all of us can fab or drool on Catherine

I don't blame Atlus. They probably don't want to be subjected to the bullshit from American moralfags and femnazis complaining about breasts in a puzzle game turning kiddies into rapists.

Religion is for the mentally ill, it's that simple. As for religion equalling "morals", well if you mean hating homosexuals and women, then yeah, go for it. Personally I find my atheist morals rather more agreeable.

Right. Blame the Christians for everything since it's fashionable to do. When was the last time you saw a Christian complaining about an H-game? It always had been fat cheesecake eating feminists who are jealous of all women in the rest of the world.

    Yeah, but here's the thing.

Catherine is still pretty much built from a niche company, the odds are high that it'll just fly under the radar whilst a more robust title, like Duke Nukem Forever, is bound to get far more attention due to it's infamy and it's far more direct content.

"Right. Blame the Christians for everything since it's fashionable to do."
    It is? Since when? Awesome.

"When was the last time you saw a Christian complaining about an H-game?" If you replace h-game with any game containing girls who are not wearing immensely modest clothes, then it was yesterday.
Tip: Just because you are not the idiot kind of Christian doesn't mean there are not plenty of those around, the same way idiots usually sneak into most groups in life.

    what christian morals?

last time i looked at any 'christian' country they were just using christianity as a front to do things that they wanted

dont lump politicians and christians together, it's offensive to christians

It's hilarious that you think this game would be important enough in the US to even warrant a condemnation from anyone. It's just like the CNN rape game thing: it's already long forgotten in the US and wasn't viewed as anything remotely important by anyone, but loser otaku think it was a bigger deal than it was and continue to rage long after anyone in the US stopped giving a shit.

And yet, it was complaints from Japan's own faux UNICEF group and their own politicians who instituted the ban on explicit manga. No US politician put pressure on them, and only few US groups (all recognized as nutcases by vast majority of the population) even bothered to comment.

TLDR: Your statement has no basis in fact, hooo-man.

Yeah I never agreed with their definition of RPG's to begin with, is what I meant in my prior post. But hey, to each his own, I myself have played part of ME2 from the demo available on the PS3 and I must say, it's quite fun, and I see where they added in the RPG "elements" into the game.

But FPS + RPG still feels kinda weird to me, a bit off so to speak... I dunno O_o

Is it region locked or not? I am not an owner of ps3, but according to wikipedia, there is not much region locking for ps3, and ps3 was advertised as region free. If it is not locked, then people should just buy Japanese version and play original. Yes, we gaijin players will have to lear some Japanese, so what? If we want to be hardcore players and otakus, we should do so anyway.

PS3 supports region protection, but to the best of my knowledge nothing uses it. xbox supports it too and nearly anything from a Japanese developer is region protected.
