Leonardo di Caprio’s Hollywood adaptation of classic psychic blob anime Akira will apparently star James Edward Franco as Kaneda, with the previously reported Zac Efron having proven unavailable.
There will also apparently be not one but two movies, as the work has been split into two parts based on volumes 1-3 and 4-6 of the manga.
There is no suggestion his character will be called Kaneda, and as the story has been shifted to the streets of post-apocalyptic “New Manhattan” the only remaining connection to the original appears to the outline of the story (if left intact) and the title of the movie, which may no longer refer to any character left in the film.
Isnt he like 30?
it’s amazing that most of you don’t understand that this is through Di Caprio’s Production Company, meaning he had to obtain the rights for this through a bidding war with other studios that wanted it. He’s going to have it distributed through someone like Fox, Universal, or even Lion’s Gate. Either way it was Di Caprio’s interest in the material is why he’s making a film of it in the first place, and shouldn’t most of you understand that Di Caprio is as much of a fan of Anime and Manga as the rest of you. So this petty fear of a guy “destroying something holy to you” is as ridiculous as Akira Toriyama rebooting Dragon Ball Z to include Flying Dick Pirates. All Di Caprio is doing is establishing a story that an american audience can understand, you elitist pricks.
i dont fucking care.. at least they made a movie about it.. if you dont like a movie then dont watch it.. dumbass..
I’m still hoping this movie kicks some serious ass. Both of them. I think that is something that really needs to happens if for nothing else then to show everybody that adaptations don’t have to suck.
Hmm…. another Hollywood r♥♥e…
I wished that this adaptation will not be as a crap of of shits like Dragonball and Tekken…
because Akira is a good anime…
but if does…. EPIC FAIL HOLLYWOOD!!!
