Muslims are angry about something again, this time the evils of Valentine’s Day, with governments moving to stamp out the celebration lest their people be tempted by the evils of pre-marital sex.
Even relatively liberal (at least by Islamic standards) Malaysia is running a campaign to stamp out Valentine’s Day, with their Deputy Prime Minister saying it is “not suitable” for followers of the religion of peace.
A 2005 fatwa condemns the practice, and several regions have reportedly instituted Valentine’s Day hotel inspections to ensure no young people are able to sneakily have sex prior to being told they can by a man with a beard.
Muslim students have been told they should avoid the wicked event, and Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development is running an unfortunately named “Mind the Valentine’s Day Trap” campaign, urging the faithful to reject the perfidious ways of the infidel.
The department’s leader, Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz, is adamant Valentine’s Day is nothing but a way for unmarried couples to show affection for each other:
“In reality, as well as historically, the celebration of Valentine’s Day is synonymous with vice activities.
Islam would reject anything, even from the Eastern culture, if it contravenes the Islamic teachings.”

To be fair pre marital sex has only really become acceptable here recently. At least for women anyway. It was ok for guys to sleep around before that so long as they didn't get accidental kids. Or weren't the president.

sometimes I just don't understand these people. They focus only on sex, its not like valentines is the only day people engage in pre marital sex. If they want to halt such, they should teach their kids proper values and stop being such nuisances.
What kind of message would it send if they teach their children "Don't go out on dates because you young people might get tempted to do more than just hold hands" and then cheerfully support a commercial holiday that encourages dating?
Besides, as someone else here said, this only applies to Muslims and the rest of humanity can carry on with Valentine's Day stuff if they want. Why are you getting upset over it?
I'll just call the wrong idea of Valentine's day on this one. I might be off a bit, but it's not about sex then and there immediately. Thing is, people can do whatever they would want to on Valentine's Day to show their affection to a loved one, even having sex to show their love. But it doesn't have to be that way in terms of sex, you just simply show your love another way that doesn't have to do with sex. Like giving them gifts and presents, something that proves that you know you love the person and will keep on loving him or her throughout their lives.
Hey Valentine's Day is a holiday for everyone to enjoy, it's total fail when people get the wrong idea about it. I know there are some Muslims out there who doesn't get the wrong idea about it unlike some people that think it.
It's just sad when someone takes a simple logic of Valentine's Day, put religion into it and make it look like it's a bad day to celebrate. I'm sorry, but even though I have respect for people devoted to their religion, at least have the brains to see things in a different perspective, one that has nothing to do with religion.
Just enjoy the holiday for what it is, and if your so desperate to know what Valentine's Day is in all its history, just look it up.

Well, Malaysia has a lot issues when it comes to religions and politics. If you read the malaysia news, you might noticed day in day out it is about politic and religion which has no true concern with the well being of the nations.
