That said, it's kind of sad when the horizontal resolution of your screen is lower than the vertical resolution of your competitor's screen.

The 3DS does break tradition by launching at a fairly high price.
It will all now hinge on what the price of the NGP is going to be and how popular 3D is.
3D is out for me, after much experimenting I have come to the conclusion that my visual system doesn't deal well with the fake depth of stereoscopy.
What's really sad is this resolution comparison; the 3DS' horizontal resolution is actually 620, 320 for each eye. It'll probably look less jaggy than the NGP screen does, and it'll be in 3D to boot.
^Me again, sorry, I meant 800 wide. 400 for each eye on the top screen.
What's really sad is that you will go blind if you play on the 3DS, while you won't if you play on the NGP.
3D is a no go for me sadly.
I was quite excited about it have experienced it as a kid, but it doesn't work quite right any more 20 years later.

If those sizes are nowhere near true, then the 3DS will be half the size of the NGP, when open, and one fourth of it's size when closed.
And portables are supposed to be... portable.
Size and battery wise, the NGP is to big to carry around for 2-5 hours of gaming when you can't put it anywhere without having a bag with you.
The 3DS might be large as well, but it's still about four times smaller than the NGP, and the battery is about the same.
Screen resolution =/= size. The 3DS is closed only around a quarter smaller than the NGP.
Didn't you see the size comparison shots? The fact that the screen's resolution is 960x544 doesn't mean that the actual screen is of the same size.
Some Nokias had screen resolution of 640x360, but the screen itself was about half that size. This results in significant reduction of aliasing. Everything looks nice and smooth on screen.
Seriously I am thinking they done the NGP a bit too big.
It baffles me how many people don't get that this is a resolution comparison and not a physical size comparison.
I would rather have a slightly smaller screen size (along with less resolution as well). The NGP is huge.

Though I find all this whine pointless, I barely ever find myself carrying my handheld in my pocket, usually it's in my backpack or my hand.
Besides, even if NGP was smaller, it'd end up big anyway, since just like the PSP, you'd have to put it in a protective case or the screen would get damaged after ~10 minutes of rubbing against things in your pocket.

To be honest the current DS and PSP are too large to carry in pockets IMO.
They would need to make it iPhone size if they want me to carry it around in my jeans pocket.
Please use physical size instead.
I think 720p on a 20 inch monitor is good enough. Too small pixeles won't do good.

300 is about what the eye can see at a reasonable distance. now here is the thing, at 300 ppi, jaggies no longer exist. this is as close to it as we can comfortably get right now.
and tell me, what pc monitor at 20 inch looks better than a 1920x1080? if you are talking about a tv where you sit 10-15 feet away, than yea, but something that is up close and personal?
lastly, the 3ds is effectivly, 800x240, 320x240. and what people dont tell you, you almost cant see jagies in 3d, at least i never could

I dont give 2 shits about resolution. What matters is the size of the display. A few pixels here and there wont scare me, if there's a zillion polygons on the screen.
I don't get how the hell having a huge handheld system makes things better, Sony. Going into a used game store, it's wonder how anyone actually was able to tote around a Game Boy comfortably. Same goes with this. That aside, NPG resolution looks better, but this is quite the fickle comparison. Show me some fun games or the analog actually being useful and then I'll change my mind.
