Houkago no Pleiades, an unusual mahou shoujo ONA (“Original Net Animation”) project made by Gainax and sponsored by metal box maker Subaru, has received much praise for exuding the overwhelming cuteness expected of a mahou shoujo anime.
Those wishing to see just how cute it is, or indeed to watch the full episodes, can do so below.
The actual anime is somewhat unusual in format – it is comprised of only 4 episodes, and is distributed via YouTube.
However, a continuation has already been hinted at, so this may yet prove both a new franchise and a new method of supporting anime production.

A lot of shows lately are for the older group of anime watchers, this would not be a surprise.

when you think about it i think its one of the good point about the ban, since now they'll stop making bad anime where they just put fan service etc and no story......but yeah those will be missed too

when i heard that gainax mindfuck industries were about to release a magic girl show i was on the ground in a seizure of delight thinking madoka would be immediately getting a worthy competitor, but naaah...

I love the Cardcaptor series to death, but where did that come from? Why are Cardcaptor fans so militant about their love of it? Or is it some creepy CLAMP cult-like fanaticism?
Anyway, I think GAINAX can do an amazing job with a full Magical Girl anime series. They put such a fun twist while making them a visual treat and they even made something like Hanamaru Youchien into something that is a joy to watch visually. Better than seeing other studios roll the dice every time they make a magical girl show for better or for worse.
