    1. [NDS] Pokemon Black/White (Pokemon) – 4,914,813
    (Nothing surprising about that...)

    NDS – 2,963,709 / 32,124,298
(Considering how the PSP is doing in Japan, this is a bit shocking...)

This is a very good time for me right now, seeing such a list, I have no problem with it either...

i dunno, i'd take lightning over k-on any day.. sales indicate interest in a game, not how great it is. i've never played a game based off of an anime that was better than any final fantasy i've played. (well i haven't played 14.. make that FF rpgs then!)

if they made a guitar hero-like k-on game, yeah, i'd play it, i'm into games like that. but i'm going to get bored of a game in which they just sing and play music and dress up..

The 360 at the very end with 3 titles makes you laugh and makes it almost "worth it" seeing the obligatory 4-14yo nintendo games dominating the charts.

I loose respect for the Japanese every time I see a list of the games they all like the best.

I'd most likely loose respect for the West if I saw lists of the top games here to. I can only imagine it would be full of call of duties.

Proper RPG's (ie: TES + ME), a few RTS and a few MMO's are the only good games. Almost every other genre is boring, or gets boring fast.

Taste doesn't say shit about quality. Just judge everything accordingly in it's own genre, and then place them in a top 100 chart.

For those who are too dumb to understand:
If Star Craft 2 deserves a 9.5, because it's better than an average RTS. And CoD deserves a 9, Star Craft tops it, it's as easy as that.

I don't know why people nowadays have this defense mechanism to say "each their own", like it isn't about quality anymore, but personality...

But that "judging" is subjective. Just because something is popular doesn't mean that everybody will agree so. Music is a prime example of this. You get so many elitists that think that commercial pop/radio music is trash, yet that type of music is one of the most successful in terms of how much it sells and how much money it makes. Sure, lets say musician A gets 10 while musician B gets 9. Does that mean that A is better than B? Because those ratings would be based purely on the subjective opinions of the writer. Art is another prime example of this. Many artist "elites" would say that anime styled art is garbage, yet most (or all) people here would argue otherwise.

You call my rating subjective, while it's the most objective of all.

So, if it's about taste, which is true, if you're the ONLY GUY IN THE WHOLE WORLD, then why do you even need a top 100 chart?

You don't need to care what OTHER people think, only what you're thinking yourself.

Don't start about art with me. That's a misconception too. People think it's all about subjectivism, but there are certain rules to emotions. Like how you can achieve emotions by applying what kind of music. You think these stuff all come at random? People actually THINK about it. You think Pokémon would be a great game if creators didn't analyze it to the most little detail in the game? There's a reason why a reviewer should deconstruct a game, and analyze WHY people like a certain something.

This isn't some sort of "gamer's diary". It's a representation of standard of how games SHOULD be made. And I'm not even talking about a popularity contest here...

I don't even understand what you are talking about anymore...

No one NEEDS the ranking. It's a list made according to how the blogger (or whoever made this list) felt would be in a right place. It allows the readers to perhaps know about games they never heard of that might be doing well.

I'm so lost as to what you are trying to say right now.

I'm reading your message as "Whichever game gets higher grade, it's better"

If you're still reading this: basically, people always think in terms of "It's a personal opinion, so you can afford everything, even though something sucks, if you like it, it's good". In a way, you can interpret things like that. But a lot of us seems to forget that a review, or things that require scepticism, is a device to tell you what people in general like, not how the reviewer liked a game. If you review like that, then you'd better off with not reviewing, since a thought is ALWAYS personal. Why do you need to announce it, unless people are interested in what you think.

People also forget that if you judge things in a way you like, you are practically supporting the things that most people appreciate, since the probability is the biggest that you'll belong to the biggest group too. If you don't review in a way how other people could think, (for instance, you despise RTS, and you like FPS), you end up making the illusion that a game is better, even for those who like RTSes. What people need to learn to do, is to compare in the same genre, then put the scores up a chart accordingly. Otherwise, you'll end up eleminating great games, just because YOU personally didn't like it.

It's not "just" a blog. It's Famitsu, the biggest gaming magazine in Japan. So how can you say that "people don't need the list". I assume that people read magazines of CRITICS, to know a score that's objective? Not to see what a CERTAIN reviewer liked, isn't it? But nowadays, one tend to act eccentric, and it's all about "to each their own"... Sigh.

At the end of the day it's all about the amount of people who share similar interests and opinions there are vs. the divided. It's an unfortunate truth but there ya go. And this is always a case by case basis based on what the majority likes in any given place.

So if you don't like this list here, that's fine. Hey, no one person will say this list is perfect I'm sure each of us could say "um, take [that] out" or "put [that] in," however you shouldn't let the list tell you that just because what you like didn't sell well or at all in Japan doesn't mean it sucks. Whatever experience you have with that game, will determine the quality of that game overall. Generally, that's how a game used to be judged (pre internet).

sales don't usually indicate how good a game is either. for example i like pokemon, and i like kingdom hearts, and if you ask me to rate them by how much i liked them, i would rate kingdom hearts higher. but see, pokemon sold more because more kids and longtime fans bought it. hell, i'm waiting for the english release.

so don't you all get your undies in a twist just because kiddy gamers with rich parents determined this list. try voting with your own wallet sometime if you really have a problem with the list.

    Felt... unoriginal, or something.
I don't know how to describe it, but it didn't have the Pokemon feel I got from the previous few games.
Like the whole game was made up of random ideas mashed together into a cartridge.

At least in the west you have a more diverse gaming market whereas Japanese gamers won't embrace nearly any foreign IP.

there's no reason to believe that just because they don't, doesn't mean they refuse to. There could just be not much appealing to them. I personally have more Japanese games. It's not like I'm avoiding western games, I just like diversity and so one or two FPS is enough, so I don't need the majority of popular western games.

In Japan, American games are a niche and American developers make no effort to tweak their games to general Japanese tastes. They don't even change the cover artwork, so that American games are the only ones with scowling steroid freaks on the cover among the rows and rows of bright and cheerful Japanese games.

Black Ops worries me much more than Pokemon.

Pokemon can be explained because there are millions upon millions of *children* given Wii and DS systems for Christmas and birthdays. After all, children were gaming's original core audience since the NES.

But Black Ops's sales implies there are millions of basement-dwelling neckbeards in the U.S.. Either that or there are millions of children and teens playing M-rated games. I think the reality is a bit of both, and neither are healthy.

Yes, how dare anyone over 18 play a shooter. Just the thought is disgusting!
