Anime fans aren’t done with 2011’s winter season – the previously featured diagram alleging all the anime are but staid rehashes of overused element has been expanded to cover even more anime featuring an overbearing heroine browbeating a wishy-washy protagonist against the tedious backdrop of a Japanese school…
The diagram now covers Gosick, Infinite Stratos, Freezing, Yumekui Merry, Kore wa Zombie?, Dragon Crisis, Madoka and “Ochinko” (Oniichan no Koto) – as before, the three elements are a harsh heroine, useless male protagonist, and school setting.
Anime producers can probably be forgiven the succession of egomaniacal female leads, but the inability to construct meaningful male protagonists and the perpetual reliance on a school setting speaks either of creative enervation on their part or a fanbase completely obsessed with weakling schoolboys at the mercy of crazed schoolgirls…

It's not the anime that you should blame, but the original work (manga, novel, game, ...) when it's not an original anime.
No. You should blame God, who has sent all this ideas in mangakas heads. ^_^
Why blame the source, they can choose a different manga to make into an anime, they keep choosing stuff that they think will sell so them come up with the same stuff to turn into an anime.

The only winter anime I've watched so far is "Kore wa Zombie desu ka" and from what I can tell from the first episode, the male protagonist isn't "useless".
Plus, I don't exactly mind the fact that there aren't many good anime coming out right now. I watched a lot of new anime last year, but I put a lot of my games and manga on hold while I was doing that. Now that there aren't many new anime that I want to watch at the moment, I'll be able to give more of my attention back to games and manga.
You know the kind of Anime fan I hate the most?
The kind who says nothing but things like: "The Anime Industry is Dieing, The state of the Industry is, The things Wrong with the Industry are, Today's Anime is always, etc, etc..."
If you have that many things against Anime, then why the FUCK are you calling yourself a fan!?
A couple of things on the matter. One, do you realize that these are trends, and that trends go in cycles? It happens with clothing, it happens with food items, it happens with Movies, and it happens with TV, Anime included. Don't talk in terms of absolutes when Anime has shifted focus multiple times in the past.
Two, has it occured to you people that your tastes in Anime may NOT be shared by all? I for one like school life, but if you don't, whatever. No water off my back, I do understand it's not for everybody. But don't make broad assumptions that Anime is supposed to be one way or another, or that everybody got into Anime for the same reasons or has the same tastes.
Three, why does everybody have this assumption that Originality automatically means quality? First things first, I highly doubt anything can be truely original in this day and age, but that's besides the point. Was Railgun particularly original? No, but hell was it entertaining! Was Bakemonogatari totally original? No, because even though it contained many subversions, it also played many things strait, and it utalized common archtypes to base their subversions off of in the first place. How about Black Lagoon? No, that's every Hollywood Gangster and Gunslinger Trope in the book, and it's still crazy awesome! Even Baccano, something many call original, is based off of many countless American Mafia flicks (which Ryogo Narita says himself). The point is that while all these things aren't superbly original, they are all awesome, and great Anime to watch. Execution is a hell of a lot more important that a concept.
And finally, are your Nostalgia Goggles so clouded that you can't realize not all old school Anime is Eva or Cowboy Bebob!? You know why you think Anime in the past was always great? Because one, the bad ones would just be forgotten in the dregs of time, just like any Mediocre movie is quickly forgotten and crushed beneath the newest blockbuster. And two, before the wide spread usage of the Internet, bearly any Anime came to the west, so anything good is not seemingly buried or surrounded by crap.

Please allow me to give you a medal. I always wanted to see someone to finally stand up and counter back all those self-proclaimed old-timer people who do nothing except bashing stuff just because they see the new shows different from what they did in their childhood. They're annoying the same way as G1 Transformers fanboys loathing Bay's Devastator because it didn't look humanoid and wasn't formed by jumping vehicles.
Also, I need to agree on the fact that The Internet plays a huge role in changing the view among watchers on the full range of anime genres nowadays. It's the same way how it (internet) can simply change someone's perspective on a country or any subject like how Vacation fliers that tend to say this or that country is peaceful and clean can be easily busted by blogs, articles etc. from the Net that reveal the ugly (and also the good) side of the subject.

What I hate even more is fags who call anime a "genre."
Why is generic bad? All I care about is if its enjoyable to watch... for me, quite a few shows this season (Zombie, Yumekui Merry, Beelzebub, Madoka, Oniichan) have been enjoyable to watch. Isn't that why we watch anime in the first place? To have fun, and not to just be pessimistic and try to find reasons not to like stuff?

Repetitive things are the only familiar things I notice & some of them need to be changed but I won't exactly point any of them out though...
Artefact is saying there is no originality involved. Same settings are overly used. I would like to try new flavors once in a while :)
No, that's why you watch anime. I watch anime for the same reasons I watch or read any other kind of fiction: To experience something interesting made by someone else. Not haphazardly created shit that panders to the lowest common denominator.

Basically all in moderation most people are over saturated from the last three seasons in these type of settings so people want some variety

I like all of mentioned Anime, apart from Stratos with I somehow missed.. that will be fixed soon. No idea why that rage. Its really hard to come up with something that wasn't done before, since there was gazyllion of anime series made already. Those series aren't that bad, I saw many worse (like the one with russian boy reenergazing by drinkin milk out straight from huge boobs).
They do which is where we get to the problem here, they are judging the characters too soon, I haven't even judged the heroine in Gosick yet as it is too soon to say anything about her characters or any other anime character really...
Of course there are the other things they are complaining about like the setting & what not, but it is basically the same imo...

The concept of people watching anime because of artistic value, commentary, a well-told story or anything that defines quality of any fictional work in every other form of media has apparently been lost.

i think there are a lot of crappy anime, and that there are easily as many crappy reality shows. what pains me is that people are complaining about the idiocy of 2d when the stupidity of 3d goes applauded -_-

It's just a fad, the same reason practically everything on primetime US television nowadays is either a crime drama or "reality" TV. They'll move onto something else soon enough, and then make almost nothing else but that for several years. That's just how things work - always has been and always will be. If you can't enjoy it then just wait it out with another hobby because there's no sense whining over immutable realities.
This gets me thinking... why don't some anime tries to do a school vs school setting? Since we get so damn many schools going on, may as well have a school rivalry anime.

I want to see more anime where the main male lead is a total badass and the female is a timid little girl jumping at her own shadow. It'd really be nothing but a reverse of the current trend sure, but it might shake it up a bit to make it interesting...
