Wandering Son “Serious Crossdressing Shota Action”

Newly aired otoko no ko anime Hourou Musuko (“Wandering Son”) has been greeted with universally positive appraisals, with many even considering it potentially one of the best of season in spite of dangerous levels of pattern deviance.
The story itself is adapted from the manga original, which depicted the complex gender identity issues facing a pair of adolescents, and was generally well received as a relatively serious work despite the obvious appeal of a title featuring crossdressing boys and girls.
The anime adaptation appears to be following in this vein, with fans of the original noting some change in pacing but otherwise approving.
Some have complained that the anime seems overly bright and washed out – possibly broadcast contrast issues are involved.

shotasartworks there~mmmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmm :3
watching it right now!
My kind of show.
You have no idea how elated I was when this was announced for animation ^^
This was bloody awful. The animation, glare, and everyone has apparently stuck their head into a bowling ball shiner, after watching the first episode I instantly deleted this series and will never DL another. Thank you for wasting 22 minutes of my life.
Well, the series isn't for everybody.
At least you gave it a chance and didn't just look at the art style to decide you didn't like it.
aaah (with hotori voice)
that trollin guy is just attention whore why people bother to rate and commenting him
Aaron you are retarded and a waste of space
For having an opinion?
I'm not dropping it for the art, I'm dropping it for the shota/transex theme
who's asking?
I guess it can be pretty jarring when the lead boy character starts budding as a woman.
It still isn't shota.
It's the awful emo/teen angst theme that offsets me, I can't stand the "drama" infused craze going on these days. Basically this boils down to "Twilight" with cross-dressers. Same stupid angst, same superficial "deep meaning"
Wandering Son = Twilight?
In what actual way?
Sorry cissy boy, but youth growing up with gender identity issue actually happens and it's nothing like Twilight.
Aaron if you hated the shiny head why did you watch 22 minutes of it? You just could have stopped watching at like 5 seconds and say I hate shiny heads and stopped. I think you secretly like the show.
Are you kidding, Aaron? This has got to be the most daring production of the season. As far as I know, the film-like quality and flow shows that it's been a success thus far.
Maybe you haven't taken the time to appreciate the title, as your words reek of biased ignorance of the entire genre.
As for me, I'll make sure to watch every episode at least 3 times. Once for me, and twice more to make up for what you're missing out on.
I don't see how you can possibly compare the narrative of Wandering Son to that of Twilight. If you're going to label conflict "forced drama", then you'd have to apply that label to basically everything, since setting up and presenting conflict is the essence of fiction. Did you skip English class in grade school?
Oh no, an anime without some T and A? KILL IT WITH FIRE!
OMG anon, I was comparing the teen angst not the plot line genius.
The "deep meaning" you brought up is the gender identity issues which really are deep in purpose. And it isn't following some crazy since the manga came out in December of 2002.
Do you even understand the plot, cissy boy?
Also, we're all different people as far as I know.
I made the post right after your first one, the 1:01 and 1:25 stamped one.
I watched it, it's got an original theme which is pretty good but the animation is a bit washed out and stuff and i guess its okay...not that interesting though =/, better then all that pervert shit though
Well I thought the art was alright, not everything has to be dark, bloody, and evil all the time.
I'll give it a go... Not because I like traps, but in an effort to understand.
@Aaron, You are like the only one against this show purely due to the fact that its a DRAMA flick about teen life. Either your into pretty stereotypical/mainstream animes or your just a bad troller. There is nothing wrong with this show, you're just a shallow person who cant accept the values the show is trying to portray.
The style is as close to the original manga as you probably can get with an anime, and the manga itself has a pretty unique style.
A lot of the plot is moving underneath the surface and can be pretty hard to follow if you don't actually have the manga as a foundation to appreciate the anime. And the manga itself is pretty far off the beaten track even compared to most other otaku-targeted manga.
(One of my Japanese teachers whom is himself a serious otaku was shocked to hear I was reading it)
Sankaku Complex at the moment:
"Blah blach blac best of the season blah blah".
Seriously. Every report about a new anime is "and is being hailed as one of the beast of the season". In reality, they're probably all crap.
Aaron just proved he is one of those idiots with retarded taste.
or he might just be a bit smarter than the emo teens who think "Oh this covers such a deep issue, it must be best of season"
Who the hell actually cares for emo teens and their gender disorders?
This was so hot.
@9:25 - Aww, the widdle Type A Otaku is mad :3
I was watching this and I thought I was in a flashback mode the whole episode no lie the things damn bright!
Gotta admit I think I agree with aaron and anon 08:50 and 19:25
Respect for posting an opinion aaron doesn't seem truly trollish he actaully watched ep 1 and didn't like it everyones got a point.
That said I will tolerate my min 3 however if they keep the flashback lighting i might not make it that far
Only one I am not going to bother with probally unless bored is Wolverine lol.
(If its like Iron Man its kinda a insta meh)
Why are you guys still replying to Aaron?
this is one I was actually looking into, because I like the concept.
Can we get word on how drama infused the show is.
I fucking hate how much drama as in all the anime, yes there should be some but not as much as there is, for me drama really kills off many series which could be great just because of how much there is in how often it comes up.
man, you guys are fags.
first get people into loli, which boils down to taking away breasts from a woman.
then do cross dressing, basically you watch a show about a dude looking like a woman.
now you are all raving about a show where the dude is fucked in the head and really don't look like a woman.
what's next? full on hard gay sex?
That is transphobic. Stop being a lousy homophobe and GTFO
@7:14 - Are Umad?
I'm going to watch this at some point but not right now...
I am very interested in this so called washy or flashback animation as people have been calling it, I might find this a winner this season, the series anyway...
... I'll stick to the manga version.
pretty good show
and nice change of pace
lolololololololololol
I sense rage in this anon :D
lol, reply fail
looks interesting. i think i will watch it.
Was never really into shota.
But am interested. Will definitely watch.
It is definitely interesting. The art style is relatively unique. While I didn't expect anything interesting out of this anime I was pleasantly surprised.
It has nice pacing and while it might seem strange half way in you are probably going to like it by the end.
just so you know this story skips ahead a few volumes of the manga so some might be confused,
also this story is quite actually very deep and original, but might be boring for some
You should definitely watch it and at least give it a chance.
Even though some people may not like the show's content/story, the overall quality of the show is very high. It's a very well produced show.
second comment ftw! :3 And yes, shota...uhmmh mm
Damn, close enough.
I noticed that people reply to first 2-3 comments even tho their response has nothing to do with that post.
It's because they want their comment to be noticed.
agreed
It's been like that since the very beginning so it's already normal~
Also, if the first comment isn't bad, it's always Quality (+1.0)
But in this articles case..
