A teacher who savagely beat a student for not being sufficiently respectful when apologising to him has received a temporary pay cut.
The incident unfolded at a Yokohama middle school, where a 57-year-old teacher was overseeing his class as they cleaned their classroom (Japanese schools force children to clean their schools as it supposedly has educational value), and became dissatisfied with how a male student was using a rag.
He warned the boy, who impudently replied “sorry” without using the proper honorifics or polite form (“gomen ne”). Enraged, the teacher exploded, throwing the child to the ground and punching him three times in the face, and then proceeding to kick him repeatedly in the face and stomach.
After returning home the boy’s parents immediately took him to hospital, where he was diagnosised with moderate facial injuries.
The teacher explains that “I thought he was making fun of me, and I snapped. It was inexcusable.”
For assaulting the boy, his school has imposed the draconian punishment of a 10% pay cut for 3 months. He apparently will not face criminal charges.
As usual, crimes which would see normal people sent to prison only seem to result in an insincere apology from Japanese teachers – little wonder children in such environments find themselves driven to suicide without teachers ever bothering to come to their aid.

and we loli lovers get criminal punishment.wow.
Young vs Old, just like their mass media.
GTO or GTFO.
10% pay cut for three months, oh no!
Goddamn it Japan.
10% pay cut means less manga and anime purchases. Less manga and anime means more frustration and violence. More violence means more pay cuts.
Hence the vicious cycle begins . . . .
Not to mention the new restrictions on manga, it just adds fuel to the fire.
so if it would be a loli he would rape her or what ?
I could do it, afta all ama teacher!
Your grammar implies not an English teacher.
It would be hilarious if the teacher says "gomen ne" after beating the student.
It teaches children that they should obey authority no matter what. It teaches them that their superiors are untouchable gods and they should be lucky they are allowed to even live. It's a cultural thing in Japan. How it survives in this very day is a true mystery.
What surprises me even more is why the child's parents didn't pursue the matter further. I'm fairly certain Japanese law doesn't exempt teachers from brutally beating their students. It's a serious crime and it warrants a few months in jail and loosing a job.
'why the child's parents didn't pursue the matter further.'
Maybe the child's parents think that their child is worthless scum who *ought* to have some respect beaten into him.
you lost me
i don't understand why u here, asshole!
same here.
two, non-racists flaming. Quite the lol.
@topic:
Student probly said "warui" or "suman" or sumthin.
Maybe the student just thought he was close enough with the teacher :/
What a retarded asshole the teacher is.
And I don't understand why I'm seeing two not-racists right now. I don't even know who's the real one.
As far as I understand, he said "gomen ne" and the teacher expected something along the lines of "sumimasen".
As an English teacher at a middle school in Japan, I can attest to the fact that some of the shit they do to their students just would NEVER fly in a lot of other 1st world nations.
They scream at kids and punish them for silly things, with the desire to drive fear and obedience into them creating a vicious cycle when they grow up. You shouldn't be afraid of your teacher. You shouldn't have to run up to your English teacher and say in English "I'm scared of (Name) Sensei!"
It's ridiculous and probably one of the most frustrating things about working here. Elementary schools are typically pretty great, but as soon as you get to Middle school, it all goes to fucking hell.
Why does your story not surprise me at all, anon-sensei? This is probably the reason why schools in Asian countries do so well, and why their school performance isn't reflected in the quality of their universities and scientific research (which tend to be very second-rate).
The kids aren't significantly smarter or better motivated: they live in abject terror of failure.
Yeah, but have you ever been beaten up by a student or shot or stabbed? This happens with increasing regularity in many US city school systems. You seem to allude to Japan as being less than a 1st world nation, however their technology belies that. The US school system is certainly nothing to be "waving" a flag about. If you cannot maintain order and discipline in the classroom its nothing more than zoo.
Anon sensei here.
The problem runs deeper than that though. Schools here teach kids to be submissive to all authority without question. The end result is a society of super passive society of adults who put on suits, go to work, get married because society says they have to, and then never sees their kids.
This in turn breeds the sort of violent teachers you see here.
I've seen first hand a kid violently attack a teacher at school because he was needlessly insulting the kid's intelligence and his family. This is how they get kids to work harder.
Of course the whole country isn't like that. But it's certainly mot uncommon.
The way you put it about Japanese schools, does that mean that all the school life anime counts as propaganda of sorts?
Yes, however I'm sure you have never been shot, stabbed or beaten in your class. Which seems to happen with alarming frequency in US city school systems. Maintaining order and discipline in a classrom is key to a proper learning environment. You cannot teach in a zoo and the inmates can't run the asylum. I'd rather teacher was in control.
I love how the child-beaters create this dichotomy between schools where teachers punch children in the face for using the wrong honorific and schools where students come armed with knives and guns. The idea of a school where no-one fears for their safety is alien to them.
I also love how these people always seem to be American.
Anon Sensei again.
I've seen twelve year old GREAT kids hit over the head and yelled at because they made a small mistake when entering the teacher's room due to nervousness.
It's one thing if the kids are being super violent. This is something else entirely.
You're blowing it out of proportion (violent crimes in the US are on the decline since the 1990's by a large margin) but you are correct in your point. What the teacher here did was inexcusable, but one has to wonder what the correct action to take actually is.
Heh really...?
Hmm an English teacher in Japan checking out Sankaku...
I bet you are here looking for stuf to use in your next class? xD
There's nothing wrong with coming here, most teachers in Japan use 2ch to spy on their students.
"He apparently will not face criminal charges."
Ah yeah. But loli-ban to something that didn't happened will be "charged". Sure.
Think of the imaginary children. :D
*random voice* but what about the real one there
Ignor him, he's actually real.
This world is truely a crazy place.
Well... in all honesty the imaginary ones are a lot cuter than the real ones, makes protecting them seem that much more important...
he was a teacher, after all! the teacher's always right. don't question the teacher, not even if he beats you. yes!
Loli = Bad
Game Lender = Bad
Teachers beating student: It's all right!
WTF about politic...
Lol Ikr. Politics is evil. Peace and love FTW.
This is why Japan has the lowest crime rates in the world: they prefer to look the other way.
That's basically the gist of it.
Japan has the lowest reported crime rate in the world: reported being the key word.
Thats also the reason why they sometimes fail to have the plaintiffs of these crmes or incident press charges. If they made the events public, it would only be a matter of time before the rest of the world is alerted to their "failness". Japan's best hope to maintain their "honor" would be to not let the word of their hypocritical, degenerate, and in most cases back-ackwards displays of double standards are kept a secret(except to the prying eyes and ears on various sources-Sankaku Complex- who check the local reports and write satirical comment about said reports whilst random forum jockeys such as ourselves debate the enthical, political, and whimsical nature of the news from the little crescent island nation)is to make sure the incidents don't go to higher judicial plains, arousing the scrutiny of any onlookers.
wtf? He was obviously lying saying that he thought he was mocking him. A Japanese Sensei should be mature enough and have enough knowledge that attacking a child like that is mere stupidity
somebody should slap the shit outta that dude...
Fucking incredible.
Well that's totally ridiculous.
We need Onizuka to teach him a lesson.
...Are yo not allowed to press charges in Japan, or something? That dude's parents are pussies.
Even if Onizuka was not the kid's homeroom teacher, he's probably run over and GERMAN SUPLEX that so-called "educator"
what?!?
they ban manga on the grounds of being harmful to children and let this slide?
ok, seriously, are you shitting me?
that cretin should get a restraining order and never be let near a school again
FUCK THIS SHIT!
That boy is probably wishing that his teacher was someone like K-ON!'s Sawa-chan or the Great Teacher Onizuka right now.
This man deserves to be beaten like that by multiple gang members, stupid teachers can be stupid sometimes...
Death penalty... extreme much?
He should be fired.
This doesn't happen all the time in Japan (the lack of punishment), but it does happen often. I've said once, I'll say it again: the Japanese justice system is a fucking joke.
Doesn't justify doing a hulk on a kid when he's suppose to lead by example..... =_=
Fired and time in jail/prison, but this isn't the type of thing that needs a death penalty....
The death penalty should be reserved for murderers only.
You don't understand.
The reason the character 'Eikichi Onizuka' was created is that he represents the absolute ideal teacher.
In real life, teachers take bribes from publishers so that they'd recommend the text books to the school to massbuy, harrass and rape kids then blackmail them to shut them up, and beat weaker brats who happen to be their students because they don't dare pick a fight with someone who's stronger and will fight back.
No, they don't give a flying fuck in hell about their students. As long as they stay quiet and get good grades regardless of the methods, all that's left is to wait for salary at the end of the month. Otherwise, the kids'll be at the receiving end of the stick when the teacher had a fight with his wife at home, or when the headmaster scolded him for his own misconducts, or when his favorite team lost last night's game.
This reminds me of a news I watched last year about a female teacher assaulting and cutting her student's hair for refusing to get a haircut. That happened in my country. Her explanation was that she was doing her job. Her punishment was suspension that would last for several months, I believe. She should've been fired instead IMO.
about ten years ago I worked as a substitute teacher... one of our teachers shoved a student up against a wall (I wont try to justify his actions by telling you what the boy did).
he was sentenced to pay damages to the boy and his family, forced to see a shrink for a year and wont ever be allowed to work with children again.
Death penalty is too much... why not get the same injuries inflicted to him by the kid who he beat up. Eye for an Eye
GTO? In my opinion what those students need is a little Yamaguchi Kumiko... Some hard knocks for both students AND teachers are necessary.
Over here, if the teacher is a dick, the honor students shut up and listen, the middles dissent, the lowest don't give a damn and do whatever. If the teacher is worth respecting, we do. If I personally think the teacher is incompetent I don't even bother any more.
i have a college professor that tells all her students to research and report about lessons in the syllabus (as in the students effectively teach). this is a lazy backhanded way to blame your students for failing when you didn't even have the balls to teach them properly. even worse is that she usually interrupts the reporters midsentence with such words of wisdom like "no, that's wrong! go back and do this, then that! don't you know anything?" and she just pushes the students around as if it's their fault that they can't understand, and not hers. who the hell is the teacher here? she's supposed to be paid a very good salary and here she is taking pot shots at students who've never heard of half the terms in the lesson before. AND she says she proofread their slides and lecture. sheesh.
@-flood- Would that apply to students attacking teachers as well?
okay I'm curious to they go to the police or to the school.
The school of driving more interested in saving face than doing anything about that teacher, but I think police would do more shipped about justice than that school saving face.
Eleriel

There needs to be some kind of middle ground.
Some kids deserve to get the shit kicked out of them, but this kid didn't seem like it.
I mean you can't handle all kids with touchy-feely shit. and you can go around beating the fuck out of kids who do nothing but "disrespect" you
If he do that here, he receives a 9mm bullet in the head as soon he TRIES to do it.
"10% pay cut for 3 months"
only a paycut?
only 10%??
only 3 months???
wtf. he deserves DEATH PENALTY
That's truth, this way that fucking disrespectful children will learn the lesson, how dare to use such an impoliteness way to apologise...
"he deserves DEATH PENALTY"
Most retarded thing I've read all morning.
True he should have gotten a worse punishment
No one's saying the kid was right or wrong, but in no world is this kind of abuse a proper punishment for impoliteness.
The politeness levels in the Japanese language are retarded anyway. All the kid did was use a form of the word "sorry" that the teacher didn't think was respectful enough. No reasonable person would think something like that is actually disrespectful.
I bet from now on, whenever this teacher criticizes a student, said student will kowtow and repeatedly scream "gomen nasai!" at the top of his voice.
Students are great at this sort of sarcasm. Especially when they have the excuse that they were afraid they would get the crap beat out of them.
Was just exaggerating since his punishment was way too light :/ Wouldn't you agree?
Okay, now I see, thought you were more serious there -flood- for a minute...
that kid is impolite and you cherish him
you people are crazy
that teacher is went overboard with his act
but it doesn't mean that the kid got no fault
I fell so sorry for the kids that have to put up with this shit its no surprise they often result in suicide
The Japanese bow to some small dislike of ero by the west but on this no matter how badly the education system is show to be they ignore it.
Why can't the family go after the man themselves with legal action, there may no be many lawyers in Japan but how hard could it be to get this guy.
They probably won't pursue legal action because Japan's legal system is fucking garbage, as well.
Probably very hard. He'll deny as much as he can get away with and the school will do everything it can to cover for him (to save face, obviously).
There's no way the boys parents could win a court case, unless they are rich and powerful. Of course, if they were rich and powerful, the teacher wouldn't have raised a hand to the boy.
Japan, like countries such as Russia, is a democracy in name only.
'somebody should slap the shit outta that dude'
A 67-year-old teacher might have 20 years of service left - if he is pushed hard.
A high school student might have 70 years of life ahead of him - if he can be made to conform to his society.
It's not clear to me that slapping anyone will address the issue.
The teacher might have trouble maintaining discipline. The student might undermine discipline in various subtle ways.
If the whole system is broken, there might be no good way to resolve any of these disputes. I tend to think that the Japanese system is indeed broken.
Maybe they need disciplinary robots - four robots for every student - who will see to it that protocol is carried out.
you don't punch kids in the face. doesn't make a fuck how old the teacher was...
I said slap the shit out of him, 'cause ya don't punch old people in the face either...
sorry, to me, it seems like a diffrent course of action could've been taken by the teacher, but I could be wrong though...
"I said slap the shit out of him, 'cause ya don't punch old people in the face either..."
I agree to a point. I make it my policy to not hit women. However, I will bend the rules if said woman thinks that she can get away with hitting(not slapping) me because she's a woman. The same applies to old people: If you can deal damage, then be prepared to receive some back. I don't put up with bull shit.
That's when you make like a zombie apocalypse grab the nearest object, and start playing for keeps...
But if a woman or old person were to come at you with something that could do you some real damage like say a knife or a baseball bat you'd hit them back hard wouldn't you?
I would get a couple of guys and fuck him up real bad...
Why in the world would you need a couple of guys to beat up a 60 year old....
Hey I admit I'd love to punch the fucker in the face myself and I'd even ware knuckle dusters when I do it.
"For assaulting the boy, his school has imposed the draconian punishment of a 10% pay cut for 3 months. He apparently will not face criminal charges."
That is total bullshit.
That bastard should have been Fired.
Slap no he needs to spend about ten minutes in a sound proof room with some big guys carrying blunt objects.
All I can say if a teacher did that to a child of mine he'd better pray I win my law suit and his career gets ruined.
Its already been done!
and it would totally be legal too in that country lol.
Japan Quality?
I wonder if the parents took more action and threatened to make the assault public (and bring shame to the schools name, etc.) if more would have been done to the teacher..
Well apparently they did take it public, or we wouldn't be reading about it.
Only a slap?
If it were MY son, I'd stalk the fucker and assault him, causing as much pain as I could and leaving as much permanent damage as possible.
yeah, sure.
First you would have to find an actual woman.
Then get a guide book for the rest.
Lol I love these "If it were my kid" comments.
They're usually the type that don't actually have kids because any sane logical parent would consider the consequences to themselves and their children before "teaching them a lesson".
