A guitar signed by the cast of K-ON! has reached over ¥20,000,000 at auction.
The guitar, scrawled on by all 5 K-ON! seiyuu and the top prize in the Lawson K-ON! Fair, was put up for auction recently and bids soon rocketed to ¥20,005,000.
The guitar itself is new, and the seller even claims he has not licked it (he also claims to be a fan of Yui and Ritsu).
The seller actually updated the auction when bids exceeded ¥1,000,000, reporting that due to the risk of insincere bids he would only be accepting bids from buyers with good evaluations. This only prompted a surge in bids however, pushing the price up to its current level.
The usual doubts over just how many of these bids can be taken seriously have arisen (although several high bidders do appear to have good reputations), but that the guitar represents a powerful item of inexplicably high value to creepy K-ON! fanatics is far from in doubt.

While I'm a fan of K-On!, I wouldn't be able to spend that kind of money in one item. Just imagine all the trips you could make to anime stores and get a whole bunch of merchandise, instead of just one item.

Jimi Hendrix's guitars don't go for that much. Eric Clapton's "blackie" guitar, which was signed by him and some of the other most famous musicians in rock history, didn't even go for a million. Getting signed by the voice actresses may seem like a hot thing for otakus, but I think it devalues the guitar for two reasons:
1. It actually makes the guitar look silly
2. The voice actresses aren't at all prominent musicians to be proud of(except maybe Minako Kotobuki)

A suggestion for those seiyuu...sign a guitar each year, sell, get rich. You'll never need to worry about the payment you earn with your job, ever. (And don't even think about giving them out as prizes, that increases the availability and reduces your selling price.)

I will pick a signed autopgraph of Shirou Masamune over that, sadly. As much as I like K-ON (not to the point of creepiness and I had not watched 2nd Season yet), 20 million yen is just a little excessive. I will pick spending that 20 million on years of every comiket book from 4 years ago up to 10 years later and may have spare change to boot.
