The latest title in the long-running Sakura Taisen series is attracting attention for the quality of its battle scenes:
As may be apparent from the screens, Sakura Taisen has been reduced to the level of a mere browser game, not even able to manage a PSP title this time – Sega’s great business acumen in developing its franchises once again seems evident.

Hey,i see nothing wrong with this game, really.
i mean, they're just trying hard to replicate the success of Sir Rance :3
Is Sega trying to rival Zynga now?
Well... seeing how their last PS2 game that took place in NewYorkCity! with only One older character that NEVER showed up in the previous Games and just in the only Theatrical release fared in their hometown of Nippon(hint* it BOMBED).. I'm surprised they're even thinking to released this one!
When will this be released in English ?
If people see screens like this, it -won't- release in english.
Don't worry guys. Sakura Taisen just transformed into Valkyria Chronicles series. That said, it would have been nice if the newest Sakura Taisen had the same production value or better than the VC series... Typical Sega management issues. They should try to pursue portable gaming, but at least PSP caliber should e the minimum..
If they called it super robot taisen and threw in the gundam characters it would be a #1 best seller even with the generic battle scene shown...
Sad but true..
If it ends up going Fire Emblem style, I'm all for it.
Well said. You know Tears To Tiara PS3 port right? It's quite similar to Fire Emblem, however it does not have Sex scenes like the original did (Which Is great game also).
let's play the game
The only recent games published by them worth playing seem to be the ones that have the good ol' SEEEEEEE~~GAAAAAAA~
Valkyria Chronicle's pretty good, but that's about it
I'd give them Ryū ga Gotoku as well.
Sakura Taisen has been reduced to a super-deformed turn-based grid battle system? THAT'S... exactly the fucking same as it's always been.
I agree because this was how it first started. People are just too use to the new 3d battle system compare to the old battle style that it started on.
It may not of been exactly like the picture, but it is similar. Also, this reminds me of SRW Alpha battle map with lesser detail, so it doesn't bother me one bit.
I'm one of Sakura Taisen big fan...and this news really crash my hope of seeing any possible new Sakura Taisen troupe (especially with the small hint of Berlin Kagekidan)
the fcuk Sega doing with one of their biggest franchise game?
why don't they just let Red Entertainment do the job of porting the game to PS3?
That would be because Red Entertainment isn't the developer, they take care of scenarios and business planning and such.
The team that developed the previous Sakura Taisen moved on to develop Valkyria Chronicle.
Hiroi Ouji, the author of original Sakura Taisen is no longer in game business. He's busy having a scandalous news involving an AKB48 member.
completely false.
Red handled all the writing and creative side.
your claim would be like saying Sakaguchi and Mistwalker didn't develop any of their games because they only handle the creative side and get another studio to do all the technical grunt work.
when Sakura Taisen was created, Red was an internal studio at Sega and they brought in Overworks to handle the size of the project. from a creative standpoint, Red had far more to do with what made Sakura Taisen Sakura Taisen than Overworks, as evidenced by the fact that when Red went independent, they took the rights to Sakura Taisen (under a licensing agreement with Sega, as Sega at the time cared about not losing Sakura Taisen completely) with them.
as for Hiroi, he's still at Red.
HE MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE NEW SAKURA TAISEN GAME.
Red as a whole has been relative inactive since they split from Sega in 2005.
You do know that in this business "Developer" specifically mean the studio that do "all the technical grunt work" right?
It was like how Mercury is the developer for
Castlevania Lords of Shadow, not Konami.
And in this case, it's Trinity, not Red.
This is...kinda disappointing...
What does that kanji mean after most of the player's names (in that last picture)?
It's that "R" like symbol you see in that kanji for "musume" and sumthin like a "B" right after
郎(rou) it doesn't have any meaning alone but usually added as a suffix to sons name as something of a counter. Ichirou(一郎) means the first son, Jirou(二郎) second, and so on.
Lots of company in Japan also use the character as a personification on sort, usually in sample material(Yamada Denki use Yamada Tarou in the sample membership form)
it's just "rô", it's part of the name of the characters (like Tarô, Jirô, etc.)
It's a part of their names. The kanji is read 'rou'. So the names are (in the las pic) Tony Saburou, Sega Jirou and RED Ichirou.
Tnx tnx tnx for the info~ ^^
PSP, social game or whatever, as long as this gets translated I won't care.
...well I can dream.
The resolution's too high for any of the handhelds, too small for the PS3 or 360, and the aspect ratio doesn't fit the Wii, which platform is this suppose to be for? PC?
EDIT: oh, right, the tag answered that lol
Well, at least this is not a "mothership title"
Spin off level is spin off level.
This is more PC quality then PSP.
I enjoyed the ST animes and the (animated) movie.
I'd buy an ST game if they made it a first-person shooter.
If they did it like "SHOGO mobile armor division", they'd let you be in, or outside of, your armor -- it's hard to quietly sneak/scout in a 'mech, spirit-powered or not.
It ain't likely gonna happen. :-(
you just ask for a totally different game :)
unless you alread played this, put mechwarrior/mechassault in your old xbox ; that should help
Ah finally, a Sakura Taisen game for the NDS...
Oh wait.
Holy Shit you managed to talk about something that contains underage girls and hold back all ambitions to post some really creepy ecchi. Did someone steal your blog?
still trolling i see
Holy Shit, you must be new here.
Articles about rape and molestation, the military, and murder deserve some form of underage imagery, but Sakura Wars where this stupid fucking trait could fit is where I draw the line mister!
Lol, what are you talking about? Sankaku has always been doing these stuff even before you first gained enough brain cells to type on a keyboard.
Alas I fear he isn't, that would at least excuse him...
So long, my love
i remeber the dream cast was ahead of the times but this seems a bit behind. mm maybe i'll look at some gameplay never know might change my mind
A shame since I quite like the Sakura taisen franchise. But this is a moot point as the chances of it making it's way stateside would have been pretty low anyway.
Anyway the screens don't look too bad. SRPGs are fun.
Sega needs to make a new Phantasy Star game.
Now.
I want them to make Shenmue 3.
This is a bit depressing, I actually care about this & I don't even play any of this franchise's games...
It seriously does look like a flash game...
I think we should not count this one out: Red is rather ambitious bringing the Sakura Taisen to online gaming, especially that, well, they're out of the Sega umbrella. And when it's Sakura Taisen, it's bankable--Zynga'd better watch out.
Now, they'd better remember the millions (and millions) of Sakura Taisen English-language fans and give their share.
oh well hopefully it's enjoyable though
Sega couldn't sell pot at a high school.
