Infinite Stratos “Least Original Anime Ever”

Viewers of Infinite Stratos have tepidly greeted the arrival of yet another “generic harem anime” so replete with the staid elements of the genre that it is being derided as little more than a prolonged exercise in cutting-and-pasting elements from other series into one hopelessly bland whole.
The show is adapted from a light novel/manga series by Media Factory, a company with a name which now seems bitterly prophetic in light of the reception the title is garnering:
“Britain has for many years reigned supreme as the nation with the worst cuisine in the world” – truer words never spoken.
Whatever can be said for the anime itself, the verdicts being delivered on its total lack of originality are damning – “This is the first time I’ve seen an anime where every single element is something we’ve seen somewhere before – is there any originality to this anime at all?”

Another one guy in an all girls school story?
At least they look cute...
that one guy should be trap, so it's win-win condition
“Britain has for many years reigned supreme as the nation with the worst cuisine in the world” – truer words never spoken.
We dont have the worst cuisine, France does. :P The US aint so hot either, lots of fatty things and lots of fake, substitute type foods when I was there.
Hey, he could have brought up Lucas and warm beer.
They are following the book and i dun know why is everyone making a big deal out of it.
We dont actually have warm beer. I've been to pubs + bars all over the country and never once had one that was warm. Always icy cold.
American food may be among the worst for you, but at least it tastes good.
Boring Mecha
Pic #11 and #12
Guy: those girls are doing the star eyes thing.
Girls: Ima comin fo dat d%@k.
Also originally is for NOOBS!
At least this lead is not a limp noodle like so many other harem leads.
FISH AND CHIPS FOR THE WIN!
yea.
something we haven't seen: new characters...
no matter how crap the anime is...sexiness is still sexiness^^
Triggerheart Exelica anyone?
WAIT,
so k-on is original? I mean reallly?????
K-On is very original fail troll is fail.
what kind of valid argument is that you fag.
Ssh Anon,he's modestly comparing it to endless eight
No, of course K-on isn't original at all. It is a Azumanga Daioh rip-off, Moe added.
I like anyway.
Riight. I don't recall them (Azumanga) make music, let alone form a band.
You don't recall that because that never happened. What did happened is that both of them are humour 4koma strip with an all highschool girls, some of them very crazy and lots of funny situations.
And you are a very stupid person.
cant blame them for milking a genre before it dies, they just had no original story.
Premise is cliche, but people should note the great writing. They aren't playing this TOO safe in terms of writing. Seems to me like they have some confidence in storytelling. I just hope they make something of it.
Mecha Musume :D,, oh yeah loved the show, and hopefully love this show
It's not the fact that you're cutting and pasting, but HOW you're cutting and pasting is what's importante. xp
Whoa Whoa, let's at least watch 3 episodes before giving it a proper verdict.
I'll reserve my judgment until I seen it for myself
my opinion: reserved
Always based my watch list by seiyuu, not from played up PVs or display of graphic art...
well I for one like the show....I guess it has to do with taste when it comes down to it.
yes it's generic, yes it has strike witches, yes it has beautiful girls (I really couldn't find an ugly one the entire episode), but I can't keep from watching it XD
IS: So generic, yet so delicious!
They waited THIS long before pointing the "lack of originality" finger at a harem anime? Maybe shows like Panty and Stocking opened their eyes?
Reserved as well will wait at least the min 3
Well it's already "the least original anime". Two more episodes isn't gonna change that. The only way it would change, is if the whole thing just completely changed drastically, which would then result in a bad anime as it would be broken and non-linear.
Whether the anime is good or bad however... 3 episodes until a verdict I would agree on.
If it were the least original, I think there would be no gimmick at all and it'd be in a regular school. If that were the case, with these characters, this should would have absolutely nothing going for it.
See, this would have had some merit as a show if the guy protagonist was a dick and on top of being one; was a total monster. Where he'd just casually destroy anyone who'd challenge him.
And then the rest of the anime would spend developing the girls up to the point where the protagonist would go "hmm; finally something interesting."
And THEN start writing the actual development between protagonist and fem!harem.
I'm sick of harem anime. Every one I watch always has the same BS ending where the guy doesn't choose any of the girls and the whole thing is left up in the air. Maybe I'm just unlucky and only find that kind, or do they all end like that? Obnoxious!
I think Love Hina is the only harem anime I've seen where the guy actually picked a girl.
have you watched clannad? that's one example of a harem anime where the guy chooses someone at the end.
Shuffle also comes to mind.
Only thing is he was after that one chick all the time.
Also Kimikiss pure rouge comes to my mind.
To me it always seems like the male lead always ends up with his childhood friend in these, whether they're harem style or love triangles. I'm actually getting tired of it. I would like to see ONE series where several characters get together in a Poly family. Unfortunately, it seems like that is even more taboo than homosexual pairings (anyone read Kashimashi? they directly say nothing is wrong with homosexuality, then imply poly and then pull up some bullshit about why the lead has to pair off with a secondary character). Until someone breaks that ground I have to say I like the series that don't make the lead choose.
As for this series, I've watched all 8 episodes that have been released so far before I found this article. I'll admit it's got a lot of cliches, but to me it's more original than most of the new stuff out there. Maybe that's because I don't watch as many series as a lot of the people here. In any case, I enjoy the show a lot, and I'm looking forward to episode 9 next week.
It must take quite something to get 2ch to admit un-originality in something with that many breasts.
Wow.
Well I'm definitely not watching this for its originality, nor was I planning on doing that before.
I plan on watching it for my Harem fix.
3 Episodes is a good enough for me, it might take more or less with other people.
I'll break it down.
1st episode is the first impression
2nd episode is trying to understand or enjoy the series
3rd episode would be the "should I keep watching or drop it?"
Its fine I like this type of anime anyway.
It depends on the anime too. Some take more than three to get any good, and some go in a completely different direction than what you might think from just three episodes.
Yeah, I give them 5 episodes cause that 5th episode is usually when it starts to happens...
I didn't want to watch this before when I read the description but this isn't exactly helping me decide to give it a try, know what, I will give it 3 episodes & if it isn't even 1 bit interesting my the end of the 3rd one, sayonara...
I like that method, and I'll follow it.
At the very, least, I had a few laughs here and there. The combat looks fun so far... But then again, it might be because it's the first episode.
You sir,
are a true man *salutes*
I would at least give it a go...simply based on the seiyuu casts for the show. Probably will continue to watch as long as it is not below average...
DROPPED.
Whatever you dropped, it doesn't belong on the floor...or at least we'll see in a couple of episodes, I'm sure.
Just like that huh? Did you even watch it yourself or just did it because someone else said it was unoriginal?
It looks alright to me. Nothing special so far, but it could pick up or go in a different direction. "Dropping" a series after 1 episode is pretty retarded.
